Waterpower is a bizarre film to come from Shaun Costello that has an even more bizarre release history. The TLA Entertainment Exclusive DVD contains two versions of the film on the disc. One called the original version and one called the director's cut. Neither is, to the best of my knowledge either the original version or the director's cut. The video quality is very good on the original version and varies from very good to poor in the director's cut. As of now, The Historic Erotica version appears to be the best release of Waterpower to have come out as of yet, but hopefully someday a definitive version will get released. [read the full review]

There are two movies included on the disc, Shaun Costello's Daughters of Discipline, which is missing at least 20 minutes of footage and isn't in great shape and Terry Sullivan's Young Girls in Bondage, which is such a bad film I am not sure how any masters managed to survive. The disc is poorly authored as well. There are three loops included on the disc, all in poor shape and all nasty and vile and hard to watch. I can't recommend this release for anyone. 1001 Erotic Nights #2 is a 1986 feature recently released on DVD as a VCA Classic, which is not a strong testament for porn of that era. While the action has moments of heat, this is typical 80s smut heavy with dialogue, poor attempts at humor, period costumes, and bad acting. The story opens with a 3-on-1 blowjob. Francois is the Sultan, and also the lucky recipient of the oral pleasuring by Kristina Barrington, Bunny Bleu, and Sandy Summers. I don't want to give to much of it away, but it involves Jamie Gillis being a millionaire who picks up this woman and sets about degrading her for a special purpose he has for her later in the movie. The degredation of her though is very central to the plot of the movie and after what I had read of how this was one of the rougher movies of the 70's I was surprised by how tame it was. The acting in this movie is top notch, I have not seen a porn film with acting equal to this one. The music is excellent and the sets are beautiful. The degredation of her though is very central to the plot of the movie and after what I had read of how this was one of the rougher movies of the 70's I was surprised by how tame it was. The acting in this movie is top notch, I have not seen a porn film with acting equal to this one. The music is excellent and the sets are beautiful. However, the hospital she attends is a hellhole where she is harassed and raped by her fellow inmates so, when the opportunity to move to another clinic presents itself, she jumps at it. Unfortunately she soon comes to realise that her new doctor, played by a very hirsute Fred Lincoln, is actually closer to a brutal cult leader than a traditional medical practitioner. The film has quite a dark tone and (arguably) some philosophical under-currents but its neither as shocking as Through The Looking Glass or as thought-provoking as The Devil In Miss Jones. Defiance covers some rich narrative ground - bringing to mind One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, The Story of O and the Manson Family but never quite manages to be as interesting as it should be. The story to this movie is that Mark (Jamie Gillis) is an evil kidnapper who sells the women he kidnaps to various buyers. Before he does this though he and his evil sidekicks train the women how to be sexually submissive. This movie was meant to be a take off of Charlies Angels, with Carrie (Annette Haven), Jennifer (Abigail Clayton), and Robin (Leslie Bovee) playing the angels. This "review" concerns itself with how the DVD's contents compare with the complete, uncut original release version of the film or an early (before prior self-censorship) VHS version. The Ratings given refer either to the "original" version of the film (Performers, Plot, Sex, etc.) or to the DVD version (Extras, Value, etc.) and are relatively arbitrary. PAMELA MANN DVD EDITS After doing a side-by-side, shot-by-shot comparison of the VCA DVD version of Henry Paris (Radley Metzgers) first hardcore porn classic, The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann, with an old video that appears to have been made from an original release print of the film, it looks like only one major scene, plus a couple of minor recaps including that scene, have been edited and/or shortened for the Pamela Mann DVD. Upon uncovering his wife's flagrantly adulterous ways, Jamie Gillis, an esteemed psychiatrist, succumbs to his own sexual desires and proclivities in "Taboo 9". An overall-good, 1991 release from Metro and director Alex DeRenzy, this film loosely ties in with prior installments of the series, both with the non-sex presence of Kay Parker, who reprises her earliest role, and also via dizzying flashbacks to prior material (clips). With the incest themes found in previous episodes largely relegated to the clips, this production focuses heavily upon adultery, with a bit of TS and cross-dressing kink thrown in for good measure, as well. While not up to the same level in terms of both storyline and heat as some of its predecessors, this one is still good and certainly worthy of a watch...particularly for fans of the series.
