Impulse Pictures has released their latest collection of 8mm adult film loops with 42^nd Street Forever: The Peep Show Collection Volume 20. Eight-millimeter loops were made for showing at booths in adult venues and for sale to home customers to project in the privacy of their own house. The loops contained within this collection were ones that were marketed and sold to home customers by different corporations under various lines.

Eight-millimeter adult loops existed simultaneously with adult films that played in theaters and often starred the same actors and actresses that viewers could see on the big screen although some featured one or two shot actors and actresses looking to pick up some extra money. Eight-millimeter loops were often shot at the homes of one of the producers, crew, director, or cast.

Eight-millimeter loops are silent and many just go the all sex aspect. Some of the loops start before the sex starts and others start with the sex in progress. However, in some, the director tries to tell a story through visuals or at least offer a better set-up than the all sex ones. Loops are not long like today's all sex web scenes and often run for around seven minutes (give or take). Loops can't be viewed the same way that one would view an adult film or even the web scenes of today as they are a very different art form.

For 42^nd Street Forever: The Peep Show Collection Volume 20, Impulse Pictures has collected 15 loops from the early 70s through the mid-80s and has broken them up evenly into three different categories. The three categories are boy/girl, three or more, and lesbian. The loops contained in the collection have a good variety to them so the viewer doesn't feel like they are watching the same scene over and over again.

One of the biggest issues facing collections of loops is how to present them. There are thousands upon thousands of loops from various companies, some of which probably lost to time. Impulse Pictures uses as good a system as any by releasing them 15 at a time. One problem that Impulse Pictures has with their release is the identification of the loops. Loops are commonly marked with the series and loop number on the film itself.

Impulse Pictures has given the titles of the loops, when they know them, however, they don't list the series or loop number within the series for any of the named loops. For the unnamed loops, they don't list the series, loop number, or any identifier that was on the film. Given that much of the target audience for a release like this is collectors of loops, Impulse Pictures should give more care in giving as much identification possible for the loops.

In the boy/girl category, the loops that are presented are “Lady On Top” from Diamond Collection (JC 300) starring Linda Shaw and David Cannon, “Fix My Clock” from Collection (CL 133) starring Linda Shaw and Kevin James from 1981, “Swinging Sex” from Fantasy Playhouse (FP 119) starring Phaedra Grant, “Baby Bird” from Moviestar (204) (a Danish loop), and “Hard Sell” from Collection (CL 221) from 1984 starring Pamela Jennings and Tom Byron.

In the three or more category, the loops that are presented are “Fuck Her Ass” from Erotic Dimensions (ED 31) with Michael Morrison, “A Hot Summer Night's Dream” from Satan (S8) starring Jamie Gillis, “The Blackest Cock” from Erotic Dimensions (ED 80) starring Jonathan Younger, Marlene Munroe, and Sharon Kane, an untitled loop with no identification, and “Rituals” from an unidentified company.

Finally, in the lesbian category, the loops that are presented are “Beautiful Creamers” from Horny Honeys (HH 116) starring Desiree Vincent, “Women With Cocks” from Erotic Dimensions (ED 64) starring Eileen Welles, Margrit, and Nicole Black, “Lesbian Hairdresser” from OZ Films (OZ 66) starring Spring Finley, “A Young Girl For My Tongue” from House of Strange Passions starring Connie Peterson, and “Intimate Friends” from OZ Films (OZ 76) starring Bonnie Holiday.

This reviewer isn't going to go into an individual review for each of the loops. Obviously, due to the nature of loops, the quality differs from loop to loop as some of the directors knew what they were doing and others didn't. There are even reports from back in the day that some loops were sold as the undeveloped film so that the company knew they were getting the only copy meaning those were edited by someone not involved with the loop production.

If you are a fan of the old 8mm loops from back in the day, Impulse Pictures has done a nice job with this collection and it is worth adding to yours. If you aren't a fan or are unfamiliar with 8mm adult loops, this reviewer would recommend a rental before an outright purchase.

Impulse Pictures has done a nice job with their DVD release of 42^nd Street Forever: The Peep Show Collection Volume 20. The old 8mm loops were often shot on 16mm film and reduced to 8mm for sale to home collectors. It looks to this reviewer like Impulse Pictures used 8mm prints for their masters for at least most, if not all, of the loops contained on this release. All of the loops are presented in the academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1 in 480p. The quality of each loop varies, as would be expected on this kind of release since the source material for each one is different. The loops all contain grain, print damage, and artifacts. The colors aren't always perfect and are downright poor in some. It doesn't look like Impulse Pictures color corrected the scanned film. None of the loops are unwatchable but the quality level does vary greatly throughout the loop compilation.

42^nd Street Forever: The Peep Show Collection Volume 20 is presented with a Dolby Digital 2.0 monaural audio track. Since the loops presented in the collection are silent the audio is just the sound of a projector.

The only extra that Impulse Pictures has included on the release is a booklet with an essay titled “The Ultimate Man-Cave” by Dimitrios Otis.

42^nd Street Forever: The Peep Show Collection Volume 20 is the latest collection of 8mm loops to be released by Impulse Pictures. As is their modus operandi for their loop compilations, Impulse Pictures has included 15 loops on the release broken into the three categories of boy/girl, three or more, and lesbian. The vintage of the loops ranges from the very early 70s through the mid-80s which is roughly the span of when hardcore loops were produced. The quality of the loops, both in visual and in actual production values, obviously varies from loop to loop. Impulse Pictures has done a nice job with this release. For collectors of the old hardcore 8mm loops, 42^nd Street Forever: The Peep Show Collection Volume 20 is a nice addition to your collection.
