Synopsis:
The Adventures of Buttman tells the tale of John (John Stagliano), a shy timid videographer with a butt fetish, who's roaming camera keeps getting him in trouble.

Audio/Video:
The Adventures of Buttman is presented with an English 2.0 Stereo track which sounds great. There are a couples places where the audio of the dialog gets a little low, but I think this was due to how the movie was made, not due to any problems when mastering the audio track. None of these occurrences are distracting nor do they ruin the viewing experience at all. Other than that the audio here is perfect. Evil Angel hasn't included any foreign language tracks or any subtitle options for the film.

The Adventures of Buttman is presented in the full screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1, which is the original aspect ratio for the film. Evil Angel has done an excellent job remastering the movie, going back to the original BetaCam tapes to create this master. The colors look a little light, but most movies from the same period exhibit the same problem. Other than one very brief glitch there is no problems with the near flawless video quality in the way of artifacts or blemishes on the print. I wish that when other companies release their older films they will show the same attention to them that Evil Angel has shown to this film.

Special Features:
For an older title, Evil Angel has been able to compile an excellent selection of extras to go along with the film. By far the best extra is the director's commentary with John Stagliano. Instead of being an audio track selection to go along with the film, this 59 minute piece is a video presentation featuring John talking about the film while it is playing on a television behind him. The commentary is done to the original cut of the film as the extended version hadn't been created yet and there are some portions of the film that get fast forwarded over. I liked this method of director's commentary and John provides tons of information about the film. This extra is worth the price of the disc alone. There is a four minute piece with Tricia Devereaux and John Stagliano called Remastering Buttman, which tells about using the original BetaCam masters and the creation of the extended cut. There is a five-and-a-half-minute piece of Behind the Scenes footage showing the filming of the movie with direction by John Stagliano. There is also extra footage from the sex scenes included that didn't make the film which runs for fourteen-and-a-half minutes.

There is a photo gallery that contains 60 pictures that is a mixture of stills and production shots that you flip through. There is a text listing of the Awards and Honors that The Adventures of Buttman has received over the years. There is a cast list by scene for the film so viewers know where their favorite star is. There are Evil Angel filmographies included for Tianna, Bionca, Tracey Adams, Champagne, and Sasha Strange. And last but not least is a comprehensive text Biography of John Stagliano, which encompasses his entire career so far.

There are twelve chapters available from the main menu for The Adventures of Buttman. They are identified by a vide clip, scene name and the chapter range that they go to in the film. There are 57 chapters contained within the film itself. This chapter system makes it very easy to get to any portion of the film that you are looking for. There is a time code for the feature film encoded on the disc.

General Review:
The Adventures of Buttman is the first of the Buttman films from Evil Angel and John Stagliano. More recent followers of the series may be surprised to find out that the original Buttman film, which started gonzo films as we know them today, is a feature film. This is not to say that this is the first adult film to feature this style of filming, but this is one of the ones, if not the one, which made the style popular.

Evil Angel has put the recently created extended cut of the film on this disc which is great as it offers viewers a big reason to upgrade from their VHS copies of the film. The original version of the film ran for an hour and 55 minutes and the extended cut runs for two hours and twenty minutes meaning that roughly 25 minutes of additional footage has been added into the film. The extended cut flows nicely and since they went back to the original BetaCam masters for the entire print, the added footage doesn't stick out in the film. My only complaint about this, which is very small and most viewers probably don't care about it, is that the original version of the film isn't included on the disc. I'm a purist when it comes to films and I always like to have the original version of a film as well, even if the transfer isn't as good and it is just on a DVD-5. Like I said though, this is a very small complaint overall.

This is a fun film that is decidedly different from anything else that was on the market at the time, or even now for that matter. Most of the story is shown through the camera of the character of John, which makes the film unique and since this is a plot based feature, it even makes it different than the gonzo genre that it spawned as I haven't seen any other films that have utilized this method of story telling in the adult industry. The plot, although simplistic works well for the film and does more than just add filler between the sex scenes.

The film features some nice looking women that play well to the camera and the acting in the film is rather good as well, then again it features some cast members that have proven time and time again that they can handle material well. The film has some excellent tease sequences, which John Stagliano has become known for making over the years, that add to the sexual heat of the film. Especially Tracey Adams's tease towards the end of the film.

The sex scenes themselves are well done and although they are tamer than much of what John Stagliano makes these days, they are still just as hot and enjoyable. The sex scenes have a voyeuristic feel to them do to the filming style and how they fit in with the plot. This voyeuristic feel adds to the scenes and I felt that it makes them more enjoyable. The sexual themes in the film are vaginal and anal sex with anilingus (male to female and female to female), male masturbation, blow jobs, toys (anal and vaginal), lesbianism, pussy eating (male to female and female to female), titty fucking, anal masturbation, anal fingering, and pussy fingering. For viewers that care about condom use, there are no condoms used in the film.

The Scenes:
The first scene, which is a tease scene, features Jamie Gillis and Tianna and consists of anilingus and male masturbation. The second scene, which is a full scene, features Jamie Gillis and Tianna and starts out with some anilingus before going to a little male masturbation. Then there is an anilingus and male masturbation combo before going into an anal toy, vaginal toy and male masturbation combo. The scene then features a blow job before going into the vaginal sex.

The third scene features John Stagliano and consists only of male masturbation. The fourth scene brings us Mark de Bruin and Tonya deVries and starts out with a blow job before going into some vaginal sex. The scene switches over to some pussy eating before going back to the vaginal sex and concludes with a blow job.

The fifth scene brings us Tom Byron and Heather Torrance and starts out with a blow job before going into a pussy eating and anilingus combo. The scene then goes back to the blow job before concluding with some vaginal sex. The sixth scene gives us Champagne with Rick Daniels and Randy Spears and starts out with some pussy eating before going into the blow job. The scene continues with a blow job and anal toy combo before switching over to a vaginal sex and blow job combo. The scene then features a vaginal sex and titty fucking combo before going back to the vaginal sex and blow job combo. Parting Thoughts:
The Adventures of Buttman is an excellent film that should be enjoyed by fans of the films of today and fans of classics. This film is different than anything else out there and should reward the viewer with a fun viewing experience. Evil Angel has also loaded the disc with extras that are worth the price of the disc alone. Viewers that like adult films with a plot, sex that lies in the middle ground and fans of John Stagliano should pick this film up as it is definitely worth the price.
