Review: The Senators Daughter serves as a campy, yet interesting, look back into the world of adult films at a time much closer to its inception than the current one. As such, many of the technical and formulaic aspects of this production are quite different than what a porn fan of the modern era might be accustomed to, andnot surprisinglythe overall tenor of the film is quite different, as well. To many, different might mean bad. For instance, there are full bushes here on the men and the women, and the special effects are seriously outmoded. Additionally, the quality of the picture could be much better, though it certainly isnt awful. The sex scenes are typically short, and not all of them are actually hardcorethey are simply what fits best into the flow of the movie at the time. All of these things, of course, are reflective of the technology, societal aspects, and / or state of the industry at the particular timei.e. the 70s. The plot to this story is supposed to be something similar to that of a soap opera, but I didn't find it to be any more similar to a soap opera than any other porn film I've seen. Basically the problem is that there was no plot at all and this is a problem in a porn film that pretends to have a plot. This movie pretended to have a story line and it had just enough to get in the way but not enough to make any sense, so this is one problem. Even the delightful Janey Robbins, one of the unsung heroines of early porn, is largely wasted. The plot has stewardess Juliet Anderson wanting to be the first female pilot on her airline, with sister Tara Aire trying to help her along. There are alot of shots inside airliner shells, and outside of windows during flights, and pirate shots at airports, but we've seen it all before in better films from that era. This film features an extended mud wrestling scene, so if you can remember the mud wrestling fad of the 1980s, you can date this film. The movie revolves around the relationship between Jack (John Leslie) and his slow witted/ retarded buddy, Lenny (Richard Pacheco). Jack is a smooth talking ladies man who effortlessly moves from one conquest to the next. Lenny, on the other hand, has no luck with the ladies - despite Jacks constant promises to set him up. However, when Lenny falls for a similarly awkward girl Jack has to face the prospect of life without his buddy. If your exposure to porn is limited to contemporary product either feature or gonzo this is going to be quite a change of pace. Even the narrative driven couples porn of today is a fair distance from movies such as this.
