Review:
“The Senator’s Daughter” serves as a campy, yet interesting, look back into the world of adult films at a time much closer to its inception than the current one. As such, many of the technical and formulaic aspects of this production are quite different than what a porn fan of the modern era might be accustomed to, and—not surprisingly—the overall tenor of the film is quite different, as well. To many, “different” might mean “bad”. For instance, there are full bushes here on the men and the women, and the special effects are seriously outmoded. Additionally, the quality of the picture could be much better, though it certainly isn’t awful. The sex scenes are typically short, and not all of them are actually hardcore—they are simply what fits best into the flow of the movie at the time. All of these things, of course, are reflective of the technology, societal aspects, and / or state of the industry at the particular time—i.e. the 70’s. So, from my perspective, “different” here doesn’t necessarily mean “bad” but, instead, simply means “different”. As such, the question as to whether this is worth purchasing or not, then, boils down to one of perspective and also the viewer’s ultimate goal. If modern-day gonzo with heavy hardcore action and high production values is your thing, you should avoid something like this as if it were the plague. If, however, you are looking for something nostalgic or having historical value and / or are willing to keep an open mind, this may be right up your alley. All of this considered, of course, it’s truly difficult to rate this film in comparison to modern-day movies. Indeed, all I can really do is put forth how I personally feel about it and that is to say that it is “good”. It’s not the best—not even from its era—but it’s fun, campy, and—if you think about it—kind of educational in a bizarre and tangential way. So…with no further ado…let’s take a look at the details.
In terms of the plot, John Holmes is a porn actor who has a terrible accident while receiving road-head from a co-star (Gloria Throate). As a result of this unfortunate turn of events, John ends up in a hospital and loses various body parts, including his notorious schlong. Fortunately for him, the government is looking for a “bionic agent” to go and rescue the kidnapped daughter (Leslie Bovee) of a Senator, and John has been chosen to be that agent. As such, he is fitted with a bionic eye, a bionic arm, and even a bionic dick that can shoot a single “poison dart”. All’s well that ends well in this campy but fun little storyline that—more or less—comes together fairly well…albeit in an obviously 70’s sort of way.
In terms of the sex, only some of the action is hardcore—as noted—and the scenes tend to be fairly short. Hardcore-wise, John gets it on with Gloria Throate on a movie set and also in the car as he is driving down the road. The former serves as a good, vaginal sequence with a pop-shot to Gloria’s bush, while the latter features only a blowjob and never comes to completion, as it’s the segment that ends in the accident. John also has a very good encounter with a brunette nurse in the linen closet of the hospital, which features vaginal sex and ends with a money-shot to the nurse’s tummy. Further, he has two romps with Leslie Bovee at the enemy’s lair. The first of these is with an evil clone of Leslie and involves only a blowjob that doesn’t come to a climax (he uses the “poison dart” instead). The second of these is a very good, full sex scene with penetration and a capping cum-shot to Leslie’s chest and breasts. As this is going on, an orgy—and belly-dancers, too—surrounds the couple. Elements of the orgy are hardcore, as well.
Of course, John isn’t the only one who gets hardcore in this little endeavor. Nancy Crew does some under-the-table dick-sucking of some (three) military guys, as they are planning Leslie’s rescue. One of the guys in this segment is jerked to a messy orgasm. Nancy also takes on three guys in something of a celebratory fuck at the U.S. command base near the end of the movie. She blows at least one of them, and she fucks one of them. There are two pop-shots in this sequence—one to Nancy’s breasts (she jerks it out) and another on her bush. Overall, this is an okay scene. Additionally, Monique Little—a candy-striper at the hospital--gets a bit of hardcore fingering from a doctor during an otherwise softcore scene.
Softcore-wise, Monique Little and Buff Lesbos (a nurse at the hospital with a great stage name) have an encounter. There is also a softcore rape of Leslie Bovee, and John has some mild softcore action with a couple of girls in a swimming pool during his “training”. Finally, there is a soft romp in a pool between a man and a woman at the enemy’s lair, as well. Some of these softer elements are decent, but they typically pale in comparison to the true, harder action delineated above. This, of course, likely goes without saying.
In terms of bonus materials and other options, there are four “Vintage Trailers” from which to choose. There is also a “Photo Gallery”—which plays through a slideshow of screen caps from the production (meh…)—and there’s a “Legendary Tribute”—which puts forth clips of various adult film legends strung together in an advertisement form. Finally, there are four “Classic Bonus Scenes”—which are a nice addition to the disc. These include a Janey Robbins boy-girl scene (from “Private Moments”), a boy-girl scene featuring an attractive blonde (from “Take Me Down”), another boy-girl scene featuring a very attractive brunette (from “Pussycat Ranch” ; this one is steamy), and yet another boy-girl scene featuring a different attractive blonde (from “Untamed Passions”). Of all of these, I would be most likely to check out “Private Moments” and…even more so…“Pussycat Ranch”.
So…all in all…I would recommend this film to a very, very specific audience—those who are interested in nostalgia, the history of porn, and / or something different and campy. I would not recommend this to viewers who are committed to the current gonzo way of doing business. For me, it worked out pretty well…as I have an open mind to such things and a curiosity about the adult film industry that far transcends simply getting off on the movies. Weigh your decision accordingly.
