Fallen Angels (Alpha Blue Archives) review summaries:
fu_q's
While held in disdain as a selectively-edited hatchet job against the adult film industry by some insiders, 1985''s "Fallen Angels" nevertheless provides an interesting, contemporaneous behind-the-scenes look at the skin flick world of the mid-1980''s. Re-released digitally by Alpha Blue Archives and streaming on AdultEmpire.com''s Unlimited service, this film largely focuses upon a trio of porn starlets new to the industry (Kristara Barrington, Lisa Lake, and a short-termer named Kim), interviewing them (and, where applicable, their boyfriends) at various points over a several month period. Dirty 30s (Alpha Blue Archives) review summaries:
fu_q's
If you're going to put together a short (less than 30 minutes) compilation of mid-80's porn, then to really have your best shot at doing it right, you need to make it all about Christy Canyon--and Ginger Lynn, as well--arguably the two biggest stars of the era (...at least who were of age). That's exactly what "Dirty 30s", a very good production from Alpha Blue Archives, does...and does well. [read the full review]

Times Square Comes Alive review summaries:

For those interested in taking a nostalgic look back at one of America's most prominent, raunchiest, and seediest of cesspools of hardcore filth and pornography (meant with all of the love that a true connoisseur of both the City and adult fare can conjure up, of course), the 1985 film "Time Square Comes Alive" from Alpha Blue and director Vince Benedetti may be just the ticket. Lipps & McCain review summaries:
fu_q's
Having pissed off a group of poker-playing hicks, a rough-and-tumble biker gang, and a couple of low-rent mobsters, two unemployed, wannabe cowboys (Rick Lutze and Paul Thomas) and a young, runaway bride (Amber Hunt) find themselves on the run and in hiding. Whether their constant string of good-for-nothin' shenanigans has finally caught up with them or whether they'll escape and live happily ever after remains to be seen, but--either way--the one thing that's for certain is that there will be a heapin' helpin' of hot and horny fucking along the way. Such is the case in "Lipps and McCain", an overall-good, 1978 release from director Bob Chinn and Alpha Blue Archives. [read the full review]

Brier Patch Girls is an enjoyable barely legal feature film from the beginning of the 1980s. There isn't much to consider a plot nor is there any reason for the film however Brier Patch Girls manages to entertain the viewer from start to finish. Brier Patch Girls is well worth watching for fans of classic adult titles. Alpha Blue Archives has done an acceptable job with their streaming and download release of Brier Patch Girls with deficient video quality and good audio quality. [read the full review]

When her mother wants to send her away to a camp in Montana for the summer, a hot-to-trot, young woman, Crystal Holland, decides to run away with her friends on one of their sailboats and sail halfway around the world. Of course, nothing could possibly go wrong with that idea...until Crystal's given the helm, hits a ship at night, and she and the boat's owner, Chaz St. Peters, end up as castaways on an island populated with monsters, cannibals, and Amazons...and they're all either angry or horny...or both. Such is the case in "King Dong", a subpar, 1985 release from Alpha Blue and director Yancey Hendrieth. [read the full review]

Young Marrieds, The review summaries:
Flash's
The Young Marrieds collection from Alpha Blue Archives, fully titled The Young Marrieds Plus the Lost Films of Alice Friedland Five-Film Collection, brings Ed Wood's believed-to-be lost film The Young Marrieds along with the films Kiss My Analyst, Analyze Your Sex, and The Adventures of Flash Beaver. Discerning readers will note the list only includes four films, not five as the full box title states. The obvious highlight of the collection for many interested people will be the only hardcore film on the release The Young Marrieds, being one of Ed Wood's lost films, which, honestly, is a rather disappointing feature. Analyze My Sex is honestly not worth watching by anyone for any reason. Kiss My Analyst was not an awful but has a sub-par transfer. The Adventures of Flash Beaver was an awful film with a transfer that was not of watchable quality. [read the full review]

Alpha Blue Archives has included both of James Bryan's connected feature films High School Fantasies and Beach Blanket Bango together on this release along with the unconnected Touch Me, that was directed by Anthony Spinelli. Both High School Fantasies and Beach Blanket Bango are enjoyable films that complement each other well on this release. Touch Me is a rather forgettable film that is worth a watch but probably not much more. Alpha Blue Archives has done an atrocious job with this release with an image quality that is unacceptable making this release not worth picking up at all. [read the full review]

A collection of video centerfolds, mostly R-rated by modern standards, of some classic busty models from the Golden Age era. Typical Alpha Blue Archives low-effort production. If you really want to see Keli Stewart or Mary Waters moving around instead of in stills, it's good stuff. But if you want something more than just a video posing guide, keep your magazines or photosets and look elsewhere. [read the full review]

Christy Canyon Triple Feature 4 review summaries:
Flash's
Alpha Blue Archives' Christy Canyon Triple Feature Four brings together three mid-80s shot on video movies that are only related by the fact that Christy Canyon stars in all three of them. The three movies contained on the release are John Stagliano's Evil Angel, a hardbody feature, Hal Freeman's Sinfully Yours, an essentially all sex movie, and Mark Carriere's Savage Fury, a video roughie. Sinfully Yours is the best of the movies on the release with both Evil Angel and Savage Fury feeling like they were rushed productions. Overall, this is a rather disappointing collection of Christy Canyon movies. Alpha Blue Archives has done a poor job with their release of Christy Canyon Triple Feature Four utilizing some rather abysmal transfers. [read the full review]

A collection of old stag reels from the late 60s and 70s featuring busty models in posing and simulated masturbation. Video quality varies from mediocre to nearly unwatchable. A twisted tale of lies, debauchery, and deceit unfolds when a pair of motorcyclists blackmail a nuclear physics professor's wife (Jacqueline Laurent) over her own sexual infidelities with the help and also the professor's son's drunken driving. Indeed, she's worked over for sex, money, a place to stay, and--in so doing--just as much is revealed about the various occupants of the home as the blackmailers/"guests" themselves. Such is the case in "Hungry Young Women", a decent, 1974 release from Torgny Wickman and Alpha Blue Archives. [read the full review]

An overall-good, 1978 release from director Paul Levis and the Alpha Blue Archives, this flick starts out for all the world looking like it's going to have an exceptional plot...the car chases, character development, intertwined storylines, etc. ... but then, somewhat randomly, gives it all up midway through and wraps everything with a massive orgy at a disco. Tongue, the most "important" film on this disc happens to be the first. Tongue is definitely not your run of the mill LA triple-Xer. Even from its opening minutes its clear its director, credited only as "K.P.," is not the average smut maker and his/her film isn't going to be the average smut film. In fact, there is no real sex for the first 25 minutes. [read the full review]

If Alpha Blue Archives had put three of Zachary Strong's stronger efforts on this release with a quality image and audio, this multiple film set might be worth picking up. However, one of Strong's worst films (More Ways Than One) and one of Jerry Abrams' worst films (The Analyst) are included on this release along with a decent film from Jerry Abrams (Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak). Alpha Blue Archives has used some rather abysmal masters for this release so as a result none of the films are overly fun to watch, even if you do like all three films. As a result, there is no real need to acquire this release. [read the full review]

Alpha Blue Archives has put two of Alex de Renzy's titles on this release. One is most likely his best film and the other one is not that great. The transfers for both films are in rather bad shape. Midnight Hustle review summaries:
Flash's
Alpha Blue Archives has collected two films that couldn't be more different on their release for Midnight Hustle that are tied together only by their similar sounding names. Midnight Hustle is a light-hearted comedy from the end of the 1970s whereas the second film The Midnight Hustler is a cheaply and poorly churned out one-day production from the beginning of the 1970s. The obvious appeal of the set is for viewers who collect movies with the word Midnight with variations of Hustle in the titles. Neither film has been given an overly good presentation by Alpha Blue Archives, Midnight Hustle doesn't look horrible but is missing a lot of footage and The Midnight Hustler just plain looks awful. Lotta Topp is an obscurity, but should have been a star: she was rather pretty (I think she looks a little like Trinity Lauren), she has big breasts and a huge clit. And she did hardcore. This DVD is a collection of her clips from various films you probably never saw. Sex varies from straight MF to dildo masturbation and a little light lesbian. Video quality is fair, sound quality varies from acceptable to atrocious. No extras. Almost any question about this DVD could be answered by "because they couldn't do less." Worth getting if you're a Lotta Topp fan because there's almost nothing else. But only for that reason. [read the full review]

Cult 70s Porno Director: Peter Balakoff review summaries:

Peter Balakoff (aka Ted Roter) was one of many former exploitation film directors turned hardcore film directors to make ends meat. Some did well while others floundered. Roter is somewhere in the middle. Although his films are frequently poorly shot and feature less than pleasing production values, he makes up for these minor faults through his surprisingly smart scripts and above average acting from his cast of relative unknowns. Here we have two of his least seen films, Hollywood She-Wolves and Paul, Lisa, And Caroline. Although She Wolves is nothing more than a run of the mill porn, PLC is a surprisingly insightful look at a menage-a-trois lifestyle. Roter's stock actress Gena Lee is Caroline, just married to Paul (played handsomely by director Roter) who decide to engage in swinging with Paul's sometimes fling Lisa. Roter creates strong, realistic characters with real problems which are handled with maturity and class. Gena Lee gives another wonderful performance proving that she certainly was one of the finest thespians in the whole of the industry during the late 70s. [read the full review]

Cult 70s Porno Director: Ray Dennis Steckler review summaries:

This will be the first of my reviews of the "Cult 70s Porno Directors" series from ABA. This collection of three films by true schlock filmmaker Ray Dennis Steckler is a truly awful grouping of terrible films. They're pretty much all the same film in that none of them has a plot and for some reason all involve roller skates. Go figure. Steckler, who also made horror themed porn under the moniker Sven Christian, was never looked at as even a good director outside of the hardcore industry and thus the reduction of his already miniscule budgets and the inclusion of hardcore sex into his films makes them even more tedious as entertainment. I suppose the sex scenes could be described as "erotic" but that would have to be from a very jaded perspective. There is a lot of sex though if that makes this package any more enticing. Overall the films are of OK AV quality. All from VHS tapes with Indian Lady faring best, but all being watchable enough to be able to make out the "action." All also appear to be uncut (though I couldn't image such crap being cut anyway). [read the full review]

The Devil Inside Her is a dark and gritty film which probably won't appeal to most viewers. The female cast, as is common for the time, isn't the best to look at. If you aren't into Silver or sex involving her stumped leg that resembles a giant penis, then this film won't appeal at all to you. Alpha Blue Archive's release suffers from coming from a beaten up print that looks ugly and poor extras. [read the full review]

Jeanne Silver, a pretty amputee, appeared in men’s magazines and on San Francisco burlesque stages. She had the lower part of her left leg removed when she was a child. The remaining stump, extending several inches below her knee, is little more than bone covered with flesh. Director Alex DeRenzy uses the pseudo-documentary format to display Silver’s sexual habits. She fucks Amber Hunt during a threesome, impales two teenage students and even goes so far as to ram it up a homosexual’s ass. [read the full review]

Alex DeRenzy produced more than a few good films during the 1970s but he also produced more than a few awful ones. This one falls into the second category. Simply a dumb way to make money off a gimmick. Long Jeanne Silver was a New York runaway who made her acting debut in Shaun Costello's Waterpower in 1976. She then came to San Francisco landing on The Mitchell Brother's doorstep. The Mitchells picked her up and put her in live sex shows. Soon washed up, DeRenzy decided to use her in one of his hardcore quickies and shot a standard vignette film with her peculiarity as the centerpiece. Now for those of you who don't know where Long Jeanne got her name, well...She doesn't have one of her legs (yes, you read that right) and uses the stump the same way gay boys use their arms! So Long Jeanne Silver (the film) is just that, consisting of scene after scene of Long Jeanne sticking her long john in lots of girls (and even one boy in by far the film's funniest scene). Anyone But My Husband is an enjoyable comedy to come from Roberta Findlay. The sex is great, the cast does a good job, and the film is funny. Alpha Blue Archives has done a decent job with the release, the majority of the master comes from a good print and the missing portions come from a beat up video. [read the full review]

A frustrated and depressed housewife, C.J. Laing, finds herself on a slippery, sexual slope when she acts upon the advice of her therapist and begins to cheat on her sleazy, uninterested husband. Such is the case in "Anyone But My Husband", a very good, 1975 release from Alpha Blue Archives and Roberta Findlay. [read the full review]

Story of Joanna, The (Alpha Blue) review summaries:

A young, aristocratic woman, played by Terri Hall, falls headfirst into Jamie Gillis' dark and ultimately deadly web when she has a chance encounter with the harsh, unfeeling millionaire one fateful evening. Indeed, from the moment of their initial meeting at an establishment of fine-dining, Hall finds herself entranced and enveloped by Gillis' austere and mysterious demeanor, and the dark, sinuous path upon which the two set forth turns not only sinisterly sexual but dangerously controlling, as well. How it all will turn out for the pair is anybody's guess, but the outcome certainly looks ominous...at best. Such is the case in "The Story of Joanna", an acclaimed Golden Age release from director Gerard Damiano and the Alpha Blue Archives. [read the full review]

Tis a shame that great film like this are treated like dirt by the companies that release them. Gerard Damiano's powerful and majestically shot masterpiece inspired by the great French Novel "The Story Of O" is one of the finest hardcore films EVER made by one of the genre's finest directors. Jamie Gillis is Jason, a wealthy socialite who discovers he is dying of a rare (although unnamed) desease. He thus "adopts" a young woman, Joanna (Teri Hall) to keep him company during his final days. She however is unaware of his ailments. Their relationship quickly turns from one of short term lovers to a violent bondage filled endurance test for poor Joanna who is tormented in just about every way possible. Slowly, as their profane relationship continues to develop, Jason becomes weaker and weaker due to his mysterious ailment while Joanna grows stronger and stronger through her torments... Damiano's great strengths as a director are present in every aspect of this masterpiece. [read the full review]

Terri Hall......as Joanna Jamie Gillis....as Jason Zebedy Colt.....as Griffin Juliet Graham...as Gina "The Story of Joanna" from 1975 has the most highly developed storyline of any porn film I have seen. I don't want to give to much of it away, but it involves Jamie Gillis being a millionaire who picks up this woman and sets about degrading her for a special purpose he has for her later in the movie. The degredation of her though is very central to the plot of the movie and after what I had read of how this was one of the rougher movies of the 70's I was surprised by how tame it was. The acting in this movie is top notch, I have not seen a porn film with acting equal to this one. The music is excellent and the sets are beautiful. The audio and video on the dvd for this movie are not that good though, about equal to some of the classics VCX puts out on dvd. [read the full review]
