The Movie

Anyone But My Husband is a fun adult film from the 70s. The plot has Nora Pelham's (C.J. Laing) husband Sam (Robert Kerman), a history teacher, cheating on her with his students because he is no longer attracted to her. Nora's shrink (Robert Combs) suggests that she have an affair.

The film has some elements that would be considered not politically correct these days for instance where Sam is sleeping with his students, which is shown in a very amusing sex scene. One of the sex scenes themselves contains fisting and another one contains masturbation by champagne bottle. However, this film is a comedy and everything is always shown in a light amusing tone.

Roberta Findlay has done a great job with this film. The sex is well done and shot well. The story works for the material being presented. And the cast does a great job with their roles, staying in character throughout. Anyone But My Husband is well worth seeking out.

Originally there was going to be an extra sex scene in the film with Carol Russo, Michael Masone, Ronnie Love, C.J. Laing, and Jennifer Jordan. At the last minute however, Findlay cut the scene from the film. She cut the scene after the opening titles had been done so Russo, Love, and Masone (as Michael Lelouche) all still appear in the credits despite not appearing in the film. The scene has been included in an edited version in her 1979 film New York City Woman and the complete scene is in 1981's Beach House.

The Edition

Alpha Blue Archives has done a decent job with this release. Anyone But My Husband is presented in the full screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The box indicated that the film was originally in widescreen which, if true, would mean that this print has been cropped or is over matted. Alpha Blue Archives used a composite master for this release, which is good and bad. The majority of the film was mastered off of a film print that was in good shape. The footage from the film print contains print damage, artifacts, and grain. Unfortunately the film print was edited, so Alpha Blue Archives used an alternate source for the missing footage. The footage that was missing from the film print Alpha Blue Archives used a video master for the composite print. The portions of the film that are from a video master are of poor quality unfortunately. Those areas have poor color, tracking issues, a lack of definition, and even a rainbow of colors that splay across the screen at one point.

Anyone But My Husband is presented with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 monaural track. The audio sounds hollow and echos. There is dirt on the audio in some portions. There are some pops in the audio as well. The audio volume increases and decreases when the transfer switches back and forth from the film footage and the video footage.

Alpha Blue Archives has only included a text production information extra on the disc.

Final Thoughts

Anyone But My Husband is an enjoyable comedy to come from Roberta Findlay. The sex is great, the cast does a good job, and the film is funny. Alpha Blue Archives has done a decent job with the release, the majority of the master comes from a good print and the missing portions come from a beat up video.
