Review:
A young, aristocratic woman, played by Terri Hall, falls headfirst into Jamie Gillis' dark and ultimately deadly web when she has a chance encounter with the harsh, unfeeling millionaire one fateful evening. Indeed, from the moment of their initial meeting at an establishment of fine-dining, Hall finds herself entranced and enveloped by Gillis' austere and mysterious demeanor, and the dark, sinuous path upon which the two set forth turns not only sinisterly sexual but dangerously controlling, as well. How it all will turn out for the pair is anybody's guess, but the outcome certainly looks ominous...at best. Such is the case in "The Story of Joanna", an acclaimed Golden Age release from director Gerard Damiano and the Alpha Blue Archives. Featuring a superb, though grim, plot and extraordinary acting, this flick plays more like a mainstream movie than it does a porno, which is likely what Damiano was aiming for. As such, it's less recommendable for those looking to get off than it is for those interested in sex spicing up an artistic film. For those who find themselves in the latter category, this one should not be missed, as it certainly achieves its goal.
In terms of the sex, Scene One has Jamie Gillis and Terri Hall capturing intimacy for the first time, with Jamie commanding her to bend over an austere table at his mansion and then taking her from behind. While Terri initially expresses her dismay at having their initial encounter in such a manner, she ultimately enjoys herself.
In Scene Two, Jamie has Terri made up like a Japanese servant, complete with a kimono and corresponding hairdo, so as to serve...and then service...three of his well-to-do friends (John Bush, Bob Stevens, and Roy Carlton). The fireside, mini-gangbang that ensues involves a double penetration (DP) and air-tight action, all as Jamie watches on in silent judgment of his pupil.
Scene Three finds Terri in the midst of a restless slumber, experiencing a nightmare. There, in her dream state, she experiences being mauled and pawed--in the nude--by multiple, male hands that overcome her from the surrounding darkness. One of the hands appears to fist her as this all goes along, though the action is somewhat obscured by the darkness of the lighting.
In Scene Four, Terri awaits Jamie's promised presence in her chambers, lightly clothed, having made herself up, and looking beautiful. When his servant, Zebedy Colt, arrives in his stead, she's initially angered and frustrated, but it doesn't take her long to recognize Colt's value in sating her baser desires, and the two ultimately engage in close-up oral...and then vaginal...action. The slow and sensual pace matches the strings-based musical accompaniment in this artistically rendered sequence.
Scene Five cuts to a mirrored room in which Terri, believing that she's being punished for her lovemaking with Zebedy, is spread and chained up. There, whipping her is Jamie and standing by is Juliet Graham, another of his servants, clad in red and black dominatrix gear. When Jamie finishes up with Terri, he instructs Juliet to insert the handle of the whip in her, which she briefly does. A cut later, and further, more-sensual, girl-on-girl activities between the ladies (69ing) ensue.
In Scene Six, Terri is collared and at the end of Jamie's leash, much like a dog. He beckons her forward and has her go down on him.
In Scene Seven, Terri suffers more indignation at Jamie's hands, this time blowing three gentlemen whilst wearing a headdress. One of the men visibly finishes in her mouth (a rare pop-shot).
Scene Eight is something of an unexpected throw-in, with Jamie's servant, Zebedy, pleasuring him orally upon a massage table. One typically wouldn't find gay material such as this interjected into an otherwise-hetero release in the current day.
In Scene Nine, Zebedy shaves Terri smooth and even begins to tearfully cut her hair (*gasp!*).
In all, this is an excellent film that counts among its various offerings a very mainstream feel. With its dark overtones and impeccable plot and acting, it is no doubt a work of adult art. What it is not, however, is pure beat-off material...unlike many of today's releases...so its overall appeal will be heavily audience-dependent. For this particular reviewer, however, it was absolutely worth the watch.
