Blonde Emmanuelle is an amusing adult take on Casablanca. While Asterix has included the 3D version of the film, the hardcore and R-rated versions are sadly missing. With the hardcore sex scenes missing it becomes a little more obvious how the plot was designed to go from sex scene to sex scene but the thin plot is still fun, the film features a great cast, and the humor still works. Asterix has done a disappointing job with the release with problems with the transfer, only a few truly good extras, and the lack of versions present on the release. Director Stephen Gibson said that there is a 3D Blu-ray coming for the title so it is recommended that you not seek out the old Asterix DVD and wait for the Blu-ray. [read the full review]

Thriller: A Cruel Picture may just be the vengeance film to end all vengeance film. It is exploitation at its best. The film is low budget but works well within its constraints. The version included on the limited edition is the uncut version that includes the hardcore footage shot by director Bo Arne Vibenius as well. For fans of the genre, this is a must see. Synapse has done a great job with the release. The transfer is in beautiful shape and the disc includes English and Swedish audio tracks along with removable English subtitles. Anything less than two discs in a set would be a ripoff of major proportions. There are only four scenes on each disc, which average about 40 total minutes playing time. If you can stomach 80s hairstyles, hairy snatches, outdated dialogue and music, poor acting, and zero credit identifications, this DVD might be for you. Out of the eight scenes, I could only positively identify Laurie Smith (Disc 1, Scene 2). Randy West and Kevin James were recognizable from the second disc, but who cares about them, right? This offering is strictly for fans of old porn. There are costumes galore (French maids, plumbers, etc.). The film is grainy (as expected for such old movies) and didnt transfer well to disc. In this one, Tami's a diminutive 18(+)-year-old bumpkin from the backwoods of Montana who runs away from her grandfather after he shoots her boyfriend and rival clan's member (Tom Byron) upon finding the pair getting it on. She ends up at her aunt (Cheri Taylor)'s "home", which turns out to be nothing more than a high-end brothel. In this one, Tami's a diminutive 18(+)-year-old bumpkin from the backwoods of Montana who runs away from her grandfather after he shoots her boyfriend and rival clan's member (Tom Byron) upon finding the pair getting it on. She ends up at her aunt (Cheri Taylor)'s "home", which turns out to be nothing more than a high-end brothel. Always the curious youngster, Tami ultimately gets involved in some of the goings-on at the house of ill repute and brings about some trouble for herself and, more so, the others involved. This 1980 New York production may be the only Gerard Damiano video I've ever seen. Typcially, "golden age" adult movies are pretty tame by today's standards. That isn't the case with this one. Right away there's an anal scene, followed shortly by a double penetration. There's also a scene where a man is penetrated by a dildo. In the original movie, there was a fisting scene and a golden shower scene, both of which have been cut from this dvd (and, unlike Arrow's DVD of "Candy Stripers" are unfortunately not hidden in an easter egg). The Bite is not as it seems. Originally released in theatres as The Big Con, the film resurfaced a year or so later, re-titled THE BITE, as a means to cash in on the success of The Sting. Although the two films share similar plot elements, The Bite takes a far more lyrical and comedic touch to the subject matter That said, I'll spare you a major plot summary, other than to say the film involves a few 1930s crooks who decide to con a banker into buying a brothel. The Bite (or The Big Con) is an amusing, if not outright fun hardcore romp from 1974. The cast, among them Sara Nicholson, Alan Marlo, Robert Everett, and future disco star Andrea True all provide fine acting performances. The direction (by ex-nudie filmmaker Jerry Denby who also directed the excellent Whatever Happened To Miss September?) is strong and the film as a whole has much higher production values than most at the time. The film as a whole feels like a well made nudie film, which makes the explicit sex quite annoying much of the time. [read the full review]
