Behind the Green Door: The Sequel is an odd film, it feels almost as if two different films got merged, with only half of each one remaining. As the story goes, flight attendant Gloria (Missy Manners) is watched by crippled peeping tom Barry (James Martin). While she pleasures herself watching Behind the Green Door, Barry fantasizes about her then we see Gloria's fantasies. I am not entirely sure if Gloria is supposed to truly be Gloria Saunders from Behind the Green Door, especially since in this film, it is acknowledged that Behind the Green Door was a movie since both Gloria and Barry insert video tapes of it into their VCRs.

The first part of the film will be a disappointment to raincoaters as the first roughly twenty minutes of the film is plot, which sets up a creepy beginning with Barry watching Gloria after she gets home from a flight. This whole creepy beginning gets tossed away after Gloria starts masturbating and Barry starts fantasizing about her in an updated version of the Green Door club from the first film. This is also when the film becomes essentially a wall-to-wall sex film as the Green Door club is a promenade of sex scenes involving Gloria and the patrons.

Those who despise condom use will find no thrill in this film. Behind the Green Door: The Sequel was the first adult film to promote safe sex. Not only are condoms, latex gloves, and dental dams used in all of the sex scenes, there are portions where the viewer is informed about proper safe-sex practices. The Mitchell Brothers did create a great film for informing the public about safe sex, within the context of an adult film.

The Green Door club portion of the film is nicely done with a variety of sexual acts on display and a variety of body types. The safe sex portions are nicely worked in and the film shows that sex can be hot and erotic even with complete protection used. The disappointment I had with this film was with the whole initial beginning of the film and the atmosphere it created being essentially thrown out. The film is nicely filmed with good sets and the beginning features a lot of exterior shots. There is some poorly done dubbing in the beginning of the film but it doesn't hinder the film.

As a sequel to Behind the Green Door, this film is a disappointment. The beginning creates the perfect set-up for the Gloria in this film to be grabbed for a night of sexual awakening like the first one, but then turns the club into a fantasy sequence. I also wasn't as taken with the fact that this film acknowledges that the original film was in fact a movie, in a way breaking the wall of fantasy. However, the film is not without merits and one of the better efforts to come out of the later part of the 80s. The film makes for decent viewing, just don't go in looking for an actual sequel to Behind the Green Door.

The presentation of Behind the Green Door: The Sequel is rather poor on this release along with the authoring of the disc. The film is presented in the full screen aspect ratio and was obviously transferred from video. The image is soft and contains artifacts and video glitches. The color is muted throughout the presentation. The film contains a Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track, which works fine for the material being presented. There is some hiss throughout the presentation. The disc is poorly authored as well. Instead of chapters, the film is split onto four tracks on the disc. Mitchell Brothers hasn't included any extras on this release. It is too bad that the 1987 short film Missy's Guide to Safe Sex also starring Missy Manners wasn't included on the release. The 30 minute short directed by Artie Mitchell wasn't pornographic but would have fit in well with this release. Then again, rights issues might be a problem as it looks like that was a Mitchell Brothers (Cinema 7) and Catalina co-produced release. A mostly superior release of Behind the Green Door: The Sequel has been released by Mitchell Brothers in the subsequent years since this was and I recommend you seek that edition out instead of this one.

Behind the Green Door: The Sequel is an inferior film to its predecessor. This film feels jumbled and like it forgot itself along the way. The sex is enjoyable though and the film seconds as a safe sex instructional. The video on this release is lacking and a later issued edition contains a beautiful picture. I would avoid this release and seek out the other if you are interested in viewing or owning this film.
