Review:
"John Holmes: The Man, the Myth, the Legend" (Uncensored) is a fascinating documentary from Pleasure Productions and David Wald that focuses upon the legendary cock-slinger of the 70's and 80's, Mr. Johnny Wadd himself, John Holmes. Presented in an intercut interview format with former friends, directors, fellow performers, etc., this film gives insights into not only his career but also his elusive personality and notorious fibbing, bits and pieces about his childhood, and both his drug use and ultimate, untimely passing from AIDS-related complications. The cast includes the likes of Ginger Lynn, Sharon Mitchell, ex-wife Laurie Holmes (Misty Dawn), Bill Margold, former manager Bill Amerson, director Mark Novick, and so on. Occasional (though quite brief) clips and photos dot the proceedings, and the offerings sometimes meander into a general characterization of the biz at the time (...especially its illegality...), which in itself makes for interesting subject matter. While this is by no means a jerk-off film, it is utterly intriguing and, for those fascinated by the history of the industry's Golden Age, a must-see.
