Suburban Dykes is a really fun queer short film from Debi Sundahl. The movie never really goes anywhere. Still, the journey to nowhere is a whole lot of fun with great performances from adult film industry legends Sharon Mitchell and Nina Hartley, along with Peppar, who this reviewer is surprised never became a more prominent name given her talent. Debi Sundahl has managed to cram so many different sex scenes and fetishes into the movie that it is hard to believe it is only a half-hour long. Suburban Dykes is genuinely a fun, guilty pleasure. Living a superficial, upper-middle class life with his mundane, flimsy facade of a family, a mediocre psychiatrist (Ron Jeremy) finds himself stuck with an unfaithful wife (Lisa B.), who's cheating upon him with his best friend (George Payne) and also their daughter's quasi-boyfriend (Sean Eilliott). Thrown into the mix is said budding, but "invisible" daughter (Tigr), who's covertly exploring her own sexuality in all manner of bizarre and dangerous ways. Of course, for his part, Ron is cheating with a slew of prostitutes and his clingy secretary (Copper Penny), who happens to also be banging Payne, as well. On top of it all, Ron finds himself harassed throughout the film (during cut-scenes) by a large, talking white light, the identity of which is fairly easy to figure out, though it isn't formally revealed until the end of the flick. They are swingers, and often go to parties thrown by their neighbor "Diana"(Honey Wilder) at a local club called "Plato's Retreat", where basically anything goes, when it comes to sex. Both Lisa and Dan are very open in their relationship and are allowed to have relations with others, however, they have but one rule. They are not to sleep with each other's friends. It attempts to be a little better than the average porno without turning into a pretentous piece of shit. The original film was quality and the DVD transfer is done well. Best of all you get some stars when they were young and smoking, like Sharon Mitchell and Joanna Storm. Waterpower is a bizarre film to come from Shaun Costello that has an even more bizarre release history. The TLA Entertainment Exclusive DVD contains two versions of the film on the disc. One called the original version and one called the director's cut. Neither is, to the best of my knowledge either the original version or the director's cut. The video quality is very good on the original version and varies from very good to poor in the director's cut. "Wacky World of X-Rated Bloopers", an overall-decent, 1989 release from Gourmet Video and narrated by Kimberly Carson, is exactly as its name would imply--a collection of bloopers and behind the scenes material from a number of 1980's releases. Funny moments, true missteps, wood issues, and micromanaging directors are all highlighted. The disc is poorly authored as well. There are three loops included on the disc, all in poor shape and all nasty and vile and hard to watch. I can't recommend this release for anyone. This 1980 New York production may be the only Gerard Damiano video I've ever seen. Typcially, "golden age" adult movies are pretty tame by today's standards. That isn't the case with this one. Right away there's an anal scene, followed shortly by a double penetration. There's also a scene where a man is penetrated by a dildo. In the original movie, there was a fisting scene and a golden shower scene, both of which have been cut from this dvd (and, unlike Arrow's DVD of "Candy Stripers" are unfortunately not hidden in an easter egg). The plot involves a futuristic society called "Alpha Blue," in which the prevailing custom is sex without commitment or attachment. Herschel Savage (early in his amazing three decades-long career) is happy with this state of affairs, but R. Bolla pines for the good old days of love and romance. Bolla decides that he will woo Satisfier 805 (Lysa Thatcher) into falling in love with him. If you are contemplating whether to buy the limited edition Lion's Gate release of Wonderland for Wadd or the VCA release of Wadd, despite the fact that the VCA version was apparently changed without the director's permission, this is the superior edition. The movie itself is very close to the version that still bears Cass Paley's name, the extras are excellent and this is the best disc from VCA that I have ever seen. If you are looking for masturbation material, this film isn't a great choice. But if you are looking for a film about one of the most legendary adult stars of all time, John C.
