review from 7/5/2019:
Distraught over dirty dreams, an innocent, God-fearing, young woman named Peaches (played by the big-busted brunette legend, Keisha) leaves the trailer park to embark upon a journey of self- (and sexual-) exploration that takes her on one hell of a wild (...and often awkward...) ride. Such is the case in "Pretty Peaches 3", a very good, 1989 release from acclaimed director, Alex deRenzy, and VCA. [read the full review]

review from 2/21/2018:
A Taboo Identity is a great documentary for fans of the adult movie industry, especially fans of the golden age of adult films. Not only does A Taboo Identity chronicle what Kay Taylor Parker has done since she retired from acting in adult films, the movie also tackles the stigma of life after adult movie acting and the difference between how adult actors and actresses are perceived by the public versus how the actors and actresses view themselves. Soundview Media Partners and MVD Visual have done a nice job with their DVD release of A Taboo Identity with nice audio and video quality. [read the full review]

5 Films 5 Years Volume 1: Golden Age Erotica is an excellent limited edition Blu-ray collection of five classic adult films. The set contains Too Naughty to Say No, Hot and Saucy Pizza Girls, The Ribald Tales of Canterbury, Prisoner of Paradise, and Dixie Ray Hollywood Star. The films on the release span from 1978 to 1985 and, honestly, fans of golden age adult films should find several to their liking, even if not all of the films included are favorites. None of the films on this release have ever looked better on home video and 5 Films 5 Years Volume 1: Golden Age Erotica is definitely worth picking up before it is sold out. [read the full review]

"X-Rated: The Greatest Adult Movies of all Time" is a good, albeit fluffy, documentary hosted by Chanel Preston that offers up about an hour-and-a-half's worth of material that puts forth its creators' views of the best that the adult genre has to offer. Documenting films both past and present, the selections start with the "Deep Throat" era and go up essentially through the modern day (...to, say, about five years ago). [read the full review]

X-Rated: The Greatest Adult Films of All-Time is a fun look at a series of films and movies that are culturally important to the adult entertainment industry from 1972 until 2013. X-Rated skimps on the historical impact that each of the included films had. However, the documentary is a nostalgic look through some of the best films to ever grace the blue screen. After the documentary is over, if you are a fan of feature films, you will want to rewatch films you had forgotten about and seek out others that you have missed. X-Rated is definitely a fun watch for fans of the feature film genre. [read the full review]

review from 9/4/2016:
John Leslie Dupre AKA John Leslie acted in many a classic xxx production from the '70s and '80s. By the late '80s, Mr. Leslie had worked with most of the great porn directors and decided to direct films of his own. He rounded up Jack Remy as director of photography, Bill Heid for jazzy or bluesy music then John directed, wrote or co-wrote and edited a great many films for VCA from 1987 through 1994. Four films from this period appear on JOHN LESLIE 4 ON 1 (2009, VCA Classics-LFP Video Group) including THE CATWOMAN from 1988, THE CHAMELEON from 1989, STRANGE CURVES from 1990 and ANGELS from 1992. At nearly 6 hours, this collection scores well with three really solid productions with ANGELS being the only misfire from the bunch. Standard frame. [read the full review]

What can be said about Shauna Grant? A young starlet from Minnesota who took the industry by storm in the early 1980's, it was her untimely passing, apparently at her own hands, that truly rocked the porn world and beyond. Indeed, her life became the subject of a made-for-TV movie, a documentary, news pieces and articles, and so on. Clearly, her situation ended in tragedy, and it shouldn't be forgotten. Still, Ms. Grant did make a number of adult films that can serve as a fine way for her fans to remember the blonde beauty of yesteryear. Herein, I review one of them, a compilation actually, "Shauna Grant: The Early Years", from VCX. [read the full review]

Irresistible is a fun film from the early 80s that never takes itself to seriously. The story is cheesy and some of the props are lacking, but the film makes for a fun watch. Unfortunately, this version from VCX has been heavily cut, for seemingly no good reason, which has removed part of the story from the film and most of the point behind it. If you've never seen the film, you probably won't notice the edits, but if you have, you're sure to notice something is missing. The transfer isn't the best, but it's better than many other releases from VCX. If you are a fan of the classics and don't mind having an edited version of the film, this disc is worth picking up, but I'd wait for it to be on sale. [read the full review]

review from 8/22/2004:
This 1978 golden age classic by Bob Chinn is a lot of good, dirty fun. The set is convincing, and many have thought it was shot in a hospital although it was really shot on a sound stage in San Francisco. The acting is reasonably good, although the plot isn't complicated: a bunch of hospital patients who are more horny than sick, and three candy stripers willing to serve any way they can, including sexually. Many have commented that the women in classic porn are not as good looking as today's crop. Although that is generally true, Amber Hunt, for example, could hold her own even in today's porn biz. Arrow has done an outstanding job restoring sound and picture, and one of the cutest things about this movie is the song that was composed and performed for it. The fact that golden age adult films frequently had a song written specifically for them is one of the things that separates them from the current industry. [read the full review]

NOTE: This is not your typical review. Others have done an excellent job reviewing the content, scenes, performances, etc. of this porn classic. This "review" concerns itself with how the DVD's contents compare with the complete, uncut original release version of the film or an early (before prior self-censorship) VHS version. The Ratings given refer either to the "original" version of the film (Performers, Plot, Sex, etc.) or to the DVD version (Extras, Value, etc.) and are relatively arbitrary. The important info is that which follows. CANDY STRIPERS ALL THERE Bob Chinns 1978 classic, Candy Stripers has been brought to DVD by Arrow Films, who has done a great job of restoring the film as well as giving us ALL of it (sort of). For those who havent heard, there are two infamous scenes in the film (both involving fisting) that have long been cut out for fear of the dreaded porn police. Both scenes are present on the DVD, but not in their original positions in the complete film, which remains edited in this presentation. [read the full review]

If you are contemplating whether to buy the limited edition Lion's Gate release of Wonderland for Wadd or the VCA release of Wadd, despite the fact that the VCA version was apparently changed without the director's permission, this is the superior edition. The movie itself is very close to the version that still bears Cass Paley's name, the extras are excellent and this is the best disc from VCA that I have ever seen. If you are looking for masturbation material, this film isn't a great choice. But if you are looking for a film about one of the most legendary adult stars of all time, John C. Holmes that doesn't hold back this is definitely worth picking up. [read the full review]

When a vulgar, crude-talking ladies' man, John Leslie, chances upon a married-but-unfulfilled Jesie St. James upon a beach, he gives himself three days to get into her pants. Such is the case in "Talk Dirty To Me 1", an exceptional, 1980 release from Dreamland Entertainment and Anthony Spinelli. Featuring raw and gritty sexual episodes set up to perfection with exquisitely acted sequences and an extraordinarily well-written storyline, this is the type of film that--when it's over--one's left wishing that it weren't...much like Leslie's character's love-'em-and-leave-'em approach to the ladies. Director: Anthony Spinelli Production date: ©1979 in end credits; original release date of 1980 according to IAFD; DVD production date of 6/5/01 on box cover. Length: 80 min. Extras: Diesel's review at AdultDVDEmpire.com reports that the DVD includes a gallery of random freeze-framed stills. I am unable to view it on my copy, however. The only other "extras" are ads. Audio/visual quality: Print quality is very rough for first few minutes. Fortunately, the worst flickering subsides before the sex begins. The presence of blemishes, artifacts and video noise is probably acceptable given the age of the movie. The camerawork and editing are quite nicemuch less choppy than a few of the other classics I've seen. The emphasis falls on medium-length shots, with pleasing pans between faces and genitals. Length 78:20 Year 1981 The VCX dvd of HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES is in fullscreen as are most of their dvd's and the picture quality is not too bad on this dvd. It's certainly a step up from their dvd of THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES. The audio is fine and everyone can be understood easily throughout the movie. This movie really deserved some extras and it includes none at all, not even the ones promised on the front cover. VCX should really get with the game and try to get some commentary tracks for their classic dvd releases as the other companies such as VCA and NuTech are doing. The story to this movie is that coach Salinas (Jamie Gillis) is coming back for a reunion with the some teachers he worked with, and a student he had on his football team 5 years earlier. He has changed a lot in the last 5 years, but first we get to see how he was 5 years earlier and it is quite an entertaining view of the trip on the bus of him and his football team to a football game. Absolutely smoking is probably the best way to describe John Leslie''s "Goin'' Down Slow", an exceptional 1988 release from the actor/director and VCA. Sure, it has a plot--a pretty good one, in fact, involving a nosey, peeping neighbor (Ona Zee), a letter to an adult magazine columnist (Robert Bullock), cheating all around, and even murder and betrayal--but the storyline just can''t help but seem secondary to the blazing hot sex that abounds. Indeed, rife with tension, intensely erotic setups, and stunning beauties, the action in this one truly hits the mark in just about every spot. [read the full review]

review from 8/10/2005:
"Goin' Down Slow", John Leslie's second directorial effort after "Nightshift Nurses" is a very different kind of adult film. It has a huge emphasis on storyline and style, rather than sex, which at times makes some of the sexual scenarios seem pointless or uninteresting. The plot itself is amazing: Ironic, full of twists and turns, and unpredictable. It is the porn equivalent of a Hitchcock movie. Ona Z plays a lonely woman who likes to watch her neighbor Ellen's (Shanna McCullough) daily trysts with lover George Anton (John Leslie). Ona's in love with George and thinks that he should be hers. Ellen is married to Martin (Robert Bullock), an advice columnist who goes under the name "Madame Rona". George is Martin's boss. Kathleen Gentry plays Martin's secretary and Joey Silvera plays a photography. Later, when a murder is committed, all of these characters come into play. What happens, I will not say, but I will say that John Leslie makes no easy assumptions. There are a fair amount of sex scenes, but none of them are very long or memorable. [read the full review]

review from 8/21/2005:
John Leslie's "The Chameleon", which many, including this reviewer, consider his masterpiece, begins with a soothing blues ditty by Bill Reid as the credits go up. We then open with a woman named Diana (Tori Welles) talking to her psychiatrist (Richard Pacheco). It appears that she has sexual problems, although they're not what you would probably imagine. It turns out that Diana's a "chameleon". If you don't know what I mean, just read ahead and you soon will. We then cut into a sizzling sex scene with a woman (April West) taking on two guys (Scott Irish, Axel Horn). After they are finished, the woman goes to the bathroom, where she turns into Diana! She has the ability to change her identities, which she takes to her full advantage. This is much to the chagrin of her boyfriend Marc (Tom Byron), for whom sex is a much more meaningful experience. Starring: Jessie St.James, Desiree Cousteau, Georgina Spelvin, Richard Pacheco, Mike Horner Directed By: Anthony Spinelli Wistfully conjuring daydreams and calling them goals, some often say that before they die they'd like to travel the world, or finally read the complete works of Shakespeare. To those people, let me say this: Everything worth seeing in Europe is on top of a hill, and the important characters in Shakespeare all die. Actually, I don't recall anyone dying in A Midsummer Night's Dream, but that's beside the point. What I'm getting at is that these lofty goals are frequently not worth pursuing. Europe is exhausting and Shakespeare is sad. Instead, may I recommend you turn your cultural attentions to classic porn? Nobody gets stabbed with a poisoned sword and everyone gets laid. And sometimes, they have funny haircuts. One of the best, and most overlooked among the "good ol' day" roster of porn titles is Easy. [read the full review]

review from 6/15/2000:
"Easy" is a Golden Classic release by NuTech of a movie first released on film in 1979. The first thing that piqued my interest about this title was the prominent placement on the case saying all sex scenes are multiple angle. I was interested in where they found the extra footage and hoped this would be explained in the commentary. When the alternate angle icon showed up on the screen, I switched angles, to find that the "multiple angle" was merely the film reversed. There is no extra footage, and reversing the film has an interesting side effect, the lips don't match the voice. Throughout the rest of the movie, the angle icon becomes a constant reminder of the wool the studio tried to pull over the eyes of the viewers.Getting more into the action of the movie, this seems typical of 1970s porn and reminds me of Insatiable, another classic movie. Considering this is a film transfer, the video is surprisingly clear with good color reproduction. There are some visable flaws, but this look to be from the original film media, and not a side effect of being transfered. [read the full review]

You know that when you have a classic on your hands youre going to see things you dont see in todays porn. Easy is all about what you wont see in the modern age of porn: a student who grabs his teacher after class and makes her lick his cum covered dick; a 17 yr old boy who breaks into teachers house and turns her on at knifepoint; a woman tongue fucking a guys ass; a catfight which results in one woman raping/seducing the other; full-body camera shots, kissing, foreplay, lots of bush, and tube socks. Exited yet? Well, you should be cause Easy is one of the most arousing flicks on DVD.Filmed in 1979, Easy was Jesie St. James first starring role. I wouldnt have known that if not for the Jim Holliday/ Jill Kelly commentary. Jesie appears the professional in every way. review from 6/15/2003:
Although not the best movie of the era, Nothing To Hide may well be the quintessential Golden Age Classic. If youve ever wanted to know what separates the Golden Age movies from contemporary classics then look no further. The movie revolves around the relationship between Jack (John Leslie) and his slow witted/ retarded buddy, Lenny (Richard Pacheco). Jack is a smooth talking ladies man who effortlessly moves from one conquest to the next. Lenny, on the other hand, has no luck with the ladies - despite Jacks constant promises to set him up. However, when Lenny falls for a similarly awkward girl Jack has to face the prospect of life without his buddy. If your exposure to porn is limited to contemporary product either feature or gonzo this is going to be quite a change of pace. Even the narrative driven couples porn of today is a fair distance from movies such as this. For a start the sex scenes are far shorter than would be acceptable today (which, from a story telling perspective at least, is no bad thing). [read the full review]

review from 4/13/2000:
Directed by Alex De Renzy, "Pretty Peaches 3" garnered much in the way of critical and popular acclaim when it was first released back in 1989. Now, over a decade later, the video holds up only middlingly well despite it's "classic' status. I am not at all sure if today's "XXX-Generation" (those who maintain a steady diet of Max Hardcore and Sodomania) videos will have the patience for it. Shot on film, the DVD is much sharper and has better colors than its original VHS incarnation. For an old-timer like me, it was great to see actresses like Rachel Ryan, Victoria Paris, Tianna and Keisha back in action, although their best work has yet to hit DVD.The movie follows Keisha "on a quest for spritual enlightenment," but her encounters are more physical than anything else. Despite the fashion period of that time, Keisha looks great in just about every scene she's in. However, for whatever reason, Director De Renzy has chosen to mute her sexual performance and the results are disappointing. [read the full review]

Pre Viewing Expectations The case notes this is a classic porn release, and briefly describes the plot. Most of the space on the back is used to list the extras included on the disc, and what a list it is, right down to the Dolby 5.1 sound. I don't have a Dolby 5.1 setup, so I can't comment on this. Too bad the case tells one how to find the bonus photos, half of the fun would have been searching around the various menus looking for the hidden tag. The Main Event This is a golden classis from the early days of Porn. It was produced in the early 1980's and stars the one and only Marilyn Chambers. She brings her own energy to any movie she stars in, which is just as hot now as it was the day she shot it. This movie is no exception. There are eight scenes total, with Marilyn appearing in a majority of those. Many of the scenes show actions we take for granted today, but were virtually unheard of back then. [read the full review]

review from 1/23/2000:
As much as I love iCandy and Marilyn Chambers, I have to admit that the sex is not the highlight of this DVD. Up n Coming is loaded with plot and (aside from Marilyn's enjoyable songs) bad country music. The movie script, the audio commentary and Marilyn are what make this DVD so great. I may be crazy, but Marilyn's body looks even better in this flick than in Insatiable. When she's rubbing herself in the shower, every muscle in her body flexes. This is really a stunning opener, even though it doesn't lead to anything.Plot The plot centers on the trials and tribulations of up and coming country music singer, Cassie Harland (Marilyn.) Cassie learns that PR equals giving good head and falling legends, Lisa DeLeeuw, don't take their loss of stardom lightly. The acting and character development are excellent. So good that you really don't want to see the mean Lisa get any good sex (though she does get a nice threesome with her studly thug and his girlie.)Sex A few sex scenes stand out. I actually purchased "Insatiable" more for the content of the extras (the commentary tracks, although unfortunately it turned out the one with Marilyn Chambers is not featured on this DVD release) than the feature itself although it was certainly an acceptable film with plot, acting, technically well done (like most films of the Golden Age), although I was a bit disappointed with the sole commentary tracks by Gloria Leonard (who does not appear in the film). review from 12/8/1999:
Wow. Insatiable is the first classic porno Ive seen and it truly is classic. After watching this movie beginning to end (a porno rarity) I felt compelled to tell all of you how phenomenal it is. The increasing intensity portrayed so well by Marilyn Chambers mirrors the increasing intensity of a fist gripping, teeth clenching, heart pounding roll in the hay. The plot and the sex intermingle like a sensual story rather than a series of action sequences. Insatiable is more than a porno -its a finely constructed, very erotic movie (not to mention the groovin soundtrack.)The initial sex scenes arent even really sex scenes -lots pleasing and teasing, no cum shots. Marilyn does a lot of masturbating while fantasizing which grows increasingly passionate as the film progresses (culminating in an unbelievable scene with John Holmes -seeing him in action gives porn a whole new meaning.)The DVD quality is excellent. You can tell it is an old film by speckles here and there. But the image and the sound are both crisp. The audio commentary is interesting as are the bio and stills of Marilyn. [read the full review]
