Review:
Two country lovers, John Smith who's looking to become a doctor and Maureen Spring who has aspirations of Hollywood stardom, find themselves separated by family, war, and circumstance as their two sordid tales unfold in The Legend of Lady Blue. A very good, 1978 release from VCX, this flick offers up a raunchy, albeit somewhat depressing, look at the lives of two characters meant to be together...but kept apart by life. To these ends, the plot is fairly strong and interesting enough to keep the viewer watching, and the acting is solid by most involved. Of particular note in this latter category is the job done by Gloria Leonard, who delivers her harsh and clever lines as a no-nonsense agent with conviction and credulity. The settings throughout are fairly realistic, as well, and the sex is generally well-captured. While not the absolute best that the Golden Age has to offer, this one holds its own and is certainly worthy of a watch, deserving of more credit than it receives.
Sexually, the true highlight of this release belongs to the luscious Phaedra Grant, a hooker who struts her stuff in front of a circle-jerking group of G.I.'s who are already taking turns on an Asian prostitute in Viet Nam. The prostitute hastily makes her exit upon Phaedra's arrival, and Ms. Grant takes over...and boy does she ever! She sucks and fucks cock, dudes drop loads around her, and she even takes a double penetration from John Leslie and Joey Silvera, which culminates in a simultaneous, friendly fire cum shot on her crotch...all as she blows an African American soldier. Intercut with this sexual circus is a sequence in which a mute Vietnamese woman, Faye Young, first takes on John Smith and then, more completely and passionately, Billy Dee in another room at the barracks. While the other sequences in the film are a mixed bag, it's this combination that's the real powderkeg... and Phaedra Grant is the spark. Yowza!
