Although not the best movie of the era, Nothing To Hide may well be the quintessential Golden Age Classic. If you’ve ever wanted to know what separates the Golden Age movies from contemporary classics then look no further.

The movie revolves around the relationship between Jack (John Leslie) and his slow witted/ retarded buddy, Lenny (Richard Pacheco). Jack is a smooth talking ladies man who effortlessly moves from one conquest to the next. Lenny, on the other hand, has no luck with the ladies - despite Jacks constant promises to set him up. However, when Lenny falls for a similarly awkward girl Jack has to face the prospect of life without his buddy.

If your exposure to porn is limited to contemporary product – either feature or gonzo – this is going to be quite a change of pace. Even the narrative driven ‘couples’ porn of today is a fair distance from movies such as this. For a start the sex scenes are far shorter than would be acceptable today (which, from a story telling perspective at least, is no bad thing). The sex scenes that do occur, and there are plenty of them, are also integrated into the narrative more successfully than in most of the movies of the last two decades. Another thing that is very noticeable about movies from this period is the number of outdoor scenes. About half of the duration of Nothing To Hide is spent outside – in parks, on the beach, strolling urban streets. In summary, Nothing To Hide is a pretty good approximation of a Hollywood movie with actual sex thrown in to the mix.

According to one poll I’ve seen Nothing To Hide is the second best adult film of all time but I wouldn’t go that far. It’s engaging, features good performances from the two leads and is undeniably well made. However, there are plenty of superior movies out there and I don’t consider this to be among the very best the Golden Age has to offer. Having said that, it is thoroughly enjoyable and an essential purchase for anyone interested in the history of adult movies.

Finally, NuTech Digital has to be commended for their work of this title. The picture quality is excellent – sharp and colourful throughout. In fact, I can’t think of an adult movie of this vintage that looks any better on disk. Unfortunately the picture is presented full frame so we are some missing information from the sides but it really isn’t noticeable. The audio is also clear and well balanced.
