If people want to have sex for my entertainment, who am I not to watch them? That means, among other things, that I have absolutely nothing against "old school" porn. By the same token, however, I don't think "classic" movies are inherently better than what's made today. With that in mind, Blue Ribbon Blue presents itself as a greatest hits package of classic stars. Unfortunately, it's not. In fact, it was produced years ago before its performers were even considered legends, and its poor mastering reflect just how much of a thrown together effort it actually is. Had they known that it would be released in the 21st century, it's producers may have paid closer attention to what they included.

It's an excuse to watch lots of people doing it. Of course, this isn't a complaint so much as it is an observation--an observation particularly important to note since most people expect more from a Vivid production. I, however, feel the typical Vivid self indulgences get in the way of what I really want. In that respect, Devil's Blackjack starts off in the right direction. Here, we look in on purgatory's game show in which recently departed souls play a quick game of chance to determine if they go to Hell or porn nirvana. The game, of course, is blackjack and Bobby Vitale is our excitable host. The Vanna White to his Pat Sajak is the overwhelmingly cute Devon, who not only deals the cards, but is also the grand prize on more than one occasion.

Temptress (You don't suppose that's the name on her birth certificate do you?) is a writer with a somewhat happy sex life called on to compose a collection of erotic stories. Through the power of sexual fantasy, she begins to let her libido wander, even if it means she must let it explore outside the boundaries of her relationship with true love Devin Wolf. One could call her erotic stories "trite" and one would be right.

Review brief: You never know what to expect from Randy West and his Up & Cummers series. Of course, you can count on pre-sex interviews and pro/am production values, but so much depends on the quality of the girls he features. Just look at the ones he puts on his covers; if you think you'd like to see them having sex, then you won't be too disappointed. It's not too hard to divine that if the girls look good, then they'll look good fucking. It's all straight forward business, really. This time around, with Volume 33, West gives us Tatianna and Nadia Moore, both of whom could have been major league adult stars had they chosen to stick around the business longer. Though they are the only high points on the disc, their participation, alone, is enough to recommend the DVD. The main attractions must wait, however, as Randy introduces us first to Angelina, a Southern Florida housewife. I'm not saying that Angelina is a turn off, but fantasizing about housewives has never really been the most popular of male pastimes.

Of course, watching a DVD "sex simulator" is not the real thing, close to the real thing, or a good substitution for the real thing. But, if you're one of the multitudes like myself who are in lust with Stacy Valentine, you'll be happy to take what you can get. What you get with Digital Sin's My Plaything: Stacy Valentine is a well constructed, crystal clear, ultra sexy two hours of porn. That's not to say that this production is without it's faults; virtual sex titles have their limitations. Still, short of having Stacy sweat all over you herself (and there's no denying the girl's got some overactive pores), this may be as good as you'll ever get. It's more accurate to call a title like this a high tech masturbation aid than a sex simulator. Sex is visceral; DVD is not, even when it's this technically perfect.

How's Stacy Valentine?" To put it mildly, I'm a fan. And why shouldn't I be? She's a got super heroine's body, a sweet and wild attitude, and she willingly does all those things I secretly want women to be doing. Unfortunately, she's never done those things to me. VCA, however, puts itself in the position of being my personal Mr. Rourke as their Chasing Stacy DVD suggests my fantasy might come true after all. I have to admit, considering they don't know just how perverse or elaborate my fantasies can be, they've done a fantastic job. As a virtual sex title, Chasing Stacy gets the job done, and done well. Despite the fact this DVD is as good as just about any wall-to-wall offering out there, you can often find copies at discounted prices. Whatever your favorite retailer is asking for it though, it's money well spent. New Breed, shot in east coast high rise apartments and hotel suites, escapes the familiar look of the traditional porn valley studio shoot. In it, director Jules Jordan has put together six unconnected scenes with five eager women. Among them are pre-Vivid contract girl Devon (billed here as Devin Striker), Leanni Lei, and Leanna Hart. There's a lot of talent here for the porn watching novice to discover. I've had a soft spot in my heart for Devon since I first saw her. She inspires in me the same kind of lust Candie Evans once did when I first started watching these kinds of movies.

Filmed in and around a well appointed mansion, America's Ten Most wanted 2 is a collection of unconnected sex scenes. There's no unifying plot or principle. What these scenes have in common is that the female talent is introduced by name, measurements, and some sort of meaningless superlative (i.e., most sensual, most enchanting, etc.). Only I have seen the first draft, and it's been erased. It's important to be fair, I believe, because the folks who made Carnal Secrets really did intend to make a good movie. Despite the modern day Max Hardcores, Rob Blacks, and the other multitudes of directors who dispatch "extreme hardcore" to your local smut shop, Stevens' tales of consentual incest are as controversial now as the day he shot them. In fact, the Taboo series continues on, though it has left its incestuous subject matter far behind. Once though, incest porn was a strange little niche market and it wasn't uncommon to find stories of fathers getting it on with their teenage daughters, teenage sons seducing their mothers, or siblings exploring sexuality together. Does this make you uneasy? Queasy even? Well, I think it's supposed to...a little. Sometime after Taboo 5 this series eliminated the incest angle.

Now, about that caveat--when the girls are genuinely into each other, and they're kissing and enthusiastically grinding their bodies together with no regard for the camera, I start to feel a little something. Of all the lesbian scenes I've watched, only a small handful ever really excited me. The best I've seen, though, was Deidre Holland and Nikki Dial in Things Change: My First Time.

Keep in mind that this is still porn, and it's restrained by a pornographic budget.

Also, it's worth noting that neither one has been carded for alcohol in a long, long, long time. West, in particular, is old enough to be my dad, and I'm old enough that it no longer bothers me to be called "sir" or "mister!" His decades in porn has brought him some experience, though, and it's all on display in Up & Cummers 51. Normally, I cringe at the idea of watching Randy West yet one more time, but the women in this addition of his long running series are so over the top attractive you hardly care he's involved. As a pro-am production, expect some pro-am production values.

If this were some old collection of loops sold from a bin of cheap compilation VHS tapes, I may be inclined to say it is what it is.

The Citizen Kane of jack-off flicks. Actually, it's the only wall to wall boy/girl masturbation movie I've seen, but that's not to say it can't be a classic. Well, before we go any further understand that Hand Job Hunnies is not exactly a classic, but it is pretty good. I've never understood why some pursue the hand job like the rest of us might work toward something along the lines of actual sex...or free hockey tickets. After all, we can give ourselves hand jobs.

Because it's downright silly to think you can rip off a good movie, turn it into porn, and still take yourself seriously. That's exactly the case of The Last Tango, however, which is "inspired" by The Last Tango in Paris, the classic Bernardo Bertolucci movie where Marlon Brando famously (and sadly) seduces Maria Schneider into a sexual affair. Ah, but porn is about sex, and not plot, right? So, why does it matter? It matters because it's a wasted effort and if you're a mainstream movie buff, then you end up feeling like a Led Zeppelin fan when Puff Daddy covered Kashmir. If you count yourself among Alexandra Silk's fans, you not only would have good reason to do so (she has great energy), but you'd also be hard pressed to find a DVD that displays her as much as this one.

Directed By: Randy West Up & Cummers, as a series, is pretty much a mixed bag and volume 68 serves as a good example of what it does well and what it doesn't do so well. I've always liked the "first time on camera" conceit of pro-am features. At the very least, they save us from typical scripted porn posturing and show us something we haven't seen before. That's pretty much the foundation Randy West's long running series was built on. This is presented well with a relatively clear picture and very sharp sound. But there's a downside to all this. Honest and sincere fucking doesn't always translate into good fucking. Let me explain. Volume 68 is broken into four segments. Of the four, only two are worth the price of admission. The first segment, for instance, is easily the best.

Review brief: North Pole #8 Directed by Peter North Starring: Sylvia, Jewel De'Nyle, Barrett Moore, Aspen Brock, Harmony Grant, Jade Marcella, Peter North, Eric Everhard, Rob Scott, Chris Cannon, Chris Charming. This is Peter North's eighth entry in his North Pole series, which does a pretty good job of straddling the fence between hardcore gonzo and couples oriented vignettes. Instead of grubby guys trying to prove to the camera how "hardcore" they really are, Peter instead opts for well appointed locations, very pretty girls, and shots that steer away from strictly gynecological close ups. At the same time, however, you still get facials, anal, strap ons, and all the other things that make a hardcore video hardcore. There is some above average sex on this disc, but you won't find much in the way of extras. There are a handful of trailers for other titles which are well put together, but that's about it. Everything is professionally constructed, on the other hand. The picture is sharp, the sound is clear, and the menus work.
