Things Change 3 Review

Here's a confession...with one caveat: I've never been a fan of girl/girl sex action in adult movies. Most often I get the feeling that the women in these scenes aren't really into each other, and I'm never completely sure what they're building toward. They go down on each other, coo exhaustedly in each other's laps, and the scene is over. Two women together is supposed to be every man's fantasy, but it's never been mine. Now, about that caveat--when the girls are genuinely into each other, and they're kissing and enthusiastically grinding their bodies together with no regard for the camera, I start to feel a little something. Of all the lesbian scenes I've watched, only a small handful ever really excited me. The best I've seen, though, was Deidre Holland and Nikki Dial in Things Change: My First Time. That film was the first of a scorching two parter, and now Metro has decided to release a deserving follow up with the equally scorching Things Change 3.

Yet, this is not a "lesbian" movie. Of the seven sex scenes in the film, three are all girls, three include hardcore fucking, and the other is a pretty good masturbation showcase with Misty Rain getting herself off while watching the aforementioned Deidre Holland/Nikki Dial pairing on videotape. And you couldn't describe any of these moments as a letdown.

In this addition to the ongoing series (the story is concluded in Things Change 4), Misty Rain occupies a world completely divorced from the first two movies. Though there are no crossover characters, the themes are the same. Despite an intense opening sexcapade with boyfriend Mark Davis, Misty is feeling a need for something else in her life. Her relationship is passionless, and she is just starting to get in touch with her emerging longings for other women. There's a lesbian club, see, where women can go to watch other women getting it on. Here, Misty has seen what the "other side" has to offer, and it excites her. I don't know where this club is, but I want a membership. I have some pretty attractive lesbian friends, but none of them will let me watch them have sex, no matter how many compliments I make or how nicely I ask.

Nikki Sinn, for good reason, takes a liking to Misty and sets out to seduce her. Davis, who suspects Misty may be cheating on him does some investigating of his own, but isn't prepared for what he discovers. You know where a movie like this is going, and director Michael Zen doesn't throw any curves. This is a story that hangs itself on sex, not a series of sex scenes that hang themselves on a thin story. But don't invest too much thought in the plot; your efforts are better spent focusing on the sex action. You don't want your mind wandering when you watch Misty getting fucked by Davis, or rolling around in bed with Nikki Sinn for her character's first time with a woman. You won't want to be distracted by Katie Gold (who could make the most hardened misanthrope smile) or Inari Vachs' bathroom stall DP with Davis and Tony Tedeschi. And if you can think of anything else other than the action on the screen when Wendi Knight and Claudia Chase take on Tedeschi, then you're a more thoughtful person than I am. And that's not even all of it. There's more sex than that.

I'm also happy to report that Metro is adding to it's standard line-up of extras. Instead of getting a photo gallery and an obese catalogue of previews, you get the photo gallery, a smaller collection of previews, a behind the scenes feature which is actually pretty funny, and one- on-one interviews with the female talent. Of all the extra features studios offer, my favorites are always the ones that take us behind the scenes and show us something more personal than fucking (there's some irony, huh?). The interviews are short, but I liked them. I wasn't expecting that bonus. And speaking of the unexpected, there is an alternate audio track for those who prefer to watch their porn in German. I'm sure our Bavarian friends appreciate that, but I barely made it through high school Spanish. Still, this just goes to show that Metro is putting forth the effort to make a complete DVD, and as such you should also expect clear stereo sound and a crisp transfer. Very professional.

The good news is that there's more where this came from. Lots more. Things Change 4 is also available, and it picks up where this one leaves off. And there are the first two movies, as well, which you can easily find on DVD. I often hear people clamoring for more Nikki Dial, and she rarely made better movies than the first two in this series. Ms. Dial is a favorite of mine. For the time being, though, Misty Rain, her tall thin body, and her kittenish attitude will fill in just fine.
