Devil's Blackjack, like lots of other porn, isn't really a movie. It's an excuse to watch lots of people doing it. Of course, this isn't a complaint so much as it is an observation--an observation particularly important to note since most people expect more from a Vivid production. I, however, feel the typical Vivid self indulgences get in the way of what I really want. In that respect, Devil's Blackjack starts off in the right direction. Here, we look in on purgatory's game show in which recently departed souls play a quick game of chance to determine if they go to Hell or porn nirvana.

The game, of course, is blackjack and Bobby Vitale is our excitable host. The Vanna White to his Pat Sajak is the overwhelmingly cute Devon, who not only deals the cards, but is also the grand prize on more than one occasion. The first winning contestant is Eric Price, who is awarded a romp with Devon in an elevator for some reason. Frankly, I'd be just as happy to fuck Devon in Brer Rabbit's briar patch as I would in a soft bed. Just pass the lube and the antiseptic. Price, on the other hand, suffers no distractions as he plants her petite body on his dick and spins her like a dreidel (Happy Hanukah everybody!). Yes, I have my shallow reasons, but I'd like to announce right now that I intend to make her my wife. Just listen to Price's reaction when Devon--face covered in semen--gives a little post coital head. That ain't acting folks; the man just can't help himself.

Unfortunately, every moment that Devon is not onscreen pales in comparison. For instance, take the next scene in which Ian Daniels plays a dead delivery man who get to return to the living just long enough to bang the receptionist he's had his eye on. The receptionist is Cricket, whose ripe body can certainly be arousing, but here she scares me. I've said before that she has a crazy woman's eyes, and while the idea of doing it with an unstable woman has it's appeal (you just never know what to expect with crazy people), I think she may be out to kill me. Overreaction? Most likely. But I'm telling you there's just something about that woman that ain't right. Of course, this is the most subjective of all opinions.

Melody Love is an attractive enough woman, but her three-way with Daniels and Vitale plays like porn filler. They attack her pretty well, but once you've watched Devon, there's just no turning back. Love strikes me as detached. And who could blame her? If I were taking it from both ends while a crew of production assistants looked on I'd have a hard time being "in the moment" myself. I'm reluctant to criticize her because she is a cute girl; she just one appears to be a cute girl who is uncomfortable doing the things she's doing.

Love appears again, however, but this time with Devon. And as if Devon isn't enough, they're joined by famed Vivid girl Raylene in a spirited and very noisy lesbian three-way. Normally, I'm pretty disappointed when I see a movie's stars show up in a lesbian scene. Usually, I feel their efforts are wasted. There's just something that's usually incomplete about all girl segments, but this one is pretty wild as they break out the strap-ons and go at each other as if it was all some kind of competition--and not an exhibition. Raylene, particularly, is unbridled as I had to turn down the volume just to keep her screaming from waking the neighbors. Devon, too, seems to take a liking to Love's strap-on as she rides it harder than Tuff Hedeman at Bullnanza (that's right, I made a rodeo reference. Just try to stop me from doing it again!).

Lastly, the gameshow's producers reward Devon for her dedicated service by reuniting her with long lost boyfriend Tony Tedeschi. Tedeschi, while blessed with above par wood, has always reminded me of a down on his luck Mickey Rourke for some reason. I think it's the fact that he appears to me slightly desperate and a little unkempt, even after he's well dressed and fresh from the showers. Don't get me wrong, I like Tedeschi better than most porn studs, and I'm not even sure to what end I even make such an observation, but there you have it. With Devon thrown into the mix, however, it's hard to let your mind wander to such inane ponderings. She really is quite a confection. And you have to hand it to Tony, he pounds her like he may never get to have sex ever again. Excuse me if I don't go into any more details, but any more Devon inspired praise from me may just prove to be embarrassing.

You get the typical Vivid extras thrown into Devil's Blackjack--previews, awkward "virtual" worlds, biographies, and multiple angles. I liked this DVD, and have no problem suggesting it to my friends. Just know that my praise stems for an admitted lust for Devon and may not be appropriate for those who don't like her as much as I do.
