Marathon (Vinegar Syndrome) review summaries:
fu_q's
When Jamie Gillis, sporting a dick-nose pair of glasses, throws a party, all of the masked, costumed freaks--from maids to furries to doctors to magicians and so on--show up...and fuck. What results is a hardcore, nonstop entanglement of flesh involving the likes of John Holmes, Sharon Mitchell, Mai Lin, Misty Dawn, Ron Jeremy, and several other notable performers of its time...and the ensuing action is hot! Such is the case in "Marathon", an exceptional, 1983 release from director Carlos Tobalina and remastered by Vinegar Syndrome. [read the full review]

5 Films 5 Years 1 (Blu-ray) review summaries:

5 Films 5 Years Volume 1: Golden Age Erotica is an excellent limited edition Blu-ray collection of five classic adult films. The set contains Too Naughty to Say No, Hot and Saucy Pizza Girls, The Ribald Tales of Canterbury, Prisoner of Paradise, and Dixie Ray Hollywood Star. The films on the release span from 1978 to 1985 and, honestly, fans of golden age adult films should find several to their liking, even if not all of the films included are favorites. None of the films on this release have ever looked better on home video and 5 Films 5 Years Volume 1: Golden Age Erotica is definitely worth picking up before it is sold out. [read the full review]

In the 1980 film, A PLACE BEYOND SHAME, Seka is a woman, whom, for some reason has lost her sex drive. After a most recent mishap with her potential lover, "Paul"(Don Fernando), Seka is frustrated beyond believe. Frustrated that she can't let her inhibitions fly, and indulge in the pleasures of sex. There was actually a time that Diane could not climax, thus experiencing the joys of the adventure. To rectify her situation, Diane hooked up with an unorthodox Psychiatrist named "Michael"(Paul Thomas), whose practices, soon knocked Diane out of her slumber. Prisoner of Paradise (Vinegar Syndrome) review summaries:
fu_q's
An already-bereft, World War 2 Navy man, John Holmes, finds himself stranded and fending for himself on a near-deserted island in the South Pacific after his ship goes down out at sea. Compounding his problems, he soon discovers that he's not alone in this "paradise", as the Nazis have set up a small, nearby radio-monitoring camp staffed by a pervy, lushy letch of a commander and his two carnal-crazy fraulein underlings. In attempting to rescue a pair of nurses also held captive at the camp, Holmes soon finds himself both a prisoner, as well, and at the mercy of this kinky, sadistic, Hitler-obsessed crew. Such is the case in "Prisoner of Paradise", a very good re-release from Vinegar Syndrome and directors Gail Palmer and Bob Chinn. [read the full review]

Prisoner of Paradise isn't the most plot motivated adult feature film out there but it isn't a bad feature by any means. The plot is thin and the acting for some of the cast is sketchy but the sex scenes aren't bad. Prisoner of Paradise is nicely shot. Vinegar Syndrome has done a nice job with the transfer but has only included one extra on the release. [read the full review]

An anthology of early 80s era porn. A couple people actually deserve the "superstar" status but most don't. The credits (and lack thereof) defy logic. Video quality is so-so, but the audio is unlistenable. It's a decent DVD if you're a fan of the performers and you want to see someone again, but overall it's mediocre at best. Lower your expectations and you may be satisfied. [read the full review]

Classic 80s feature about a heavy metal" group, The Sextelettes, who seduce their way to the top of music industry food chain in an effort to get the elusive "airplay" for their video, "Hotter Than Hot." You know, even with a steady stream of gonzo flicks, I think that there's always room in for some old-school porn. Of course, to me, old-school means mid-1980 and before. One film I remember seeing on VHS years ago was Rock Hard, with Taija Rae as Adonna, leader of the Sexelettes (with the sexy and legendary Nina Hartley as Cindi and Patti Cakes as Ultra-Box). As you can guess, these ladies will do anything and anyone (DJ's, managers, etc.) to get to the top. [read the full review]

Wacky World Of X-Rated Bloopers review summaries:
fu_q's
"Wacky World of X-Rated Bloopers", an overall-decent, 1989 release from Gourmet Video and narrated by Kimberly Carson, is exactly as its name would imply--a collection of bloopers and behind the scenes material from a number of 1980's releases. Funny moments, true missteps, wood issues, and micromanaging directors are all highlighted. A number of stars from the era make appearances, some more so than others, and the release does provide a nice look at life on a porn set from a time period when BTS material really wasn't mass-produced and readily available. While it's not so much a production to get off to, it's certainly interesting and reasonably worth a watch. [read the full review]

It's all about loving 'em and leaving 'em when the smooth-talking John Leslie's over-the-top, male strip review, which is aiming for the stars but mired on the bottom, finds its way to a cowpoke town in the middle of nowhere. Indeed, the guys are born for the road, whether they realize it or not (...or like it or not...), and the fanciful ladies of the little berg are ultimately left feeling the repercussions in the wake of their unabashed, testosterone-fueled tide. Such is the case in "The Dancers", a very good, 1981 release from VCX and director Anthony Spinelli. [read the full review]

Irresistible (TVX) review summaries:
Flash's
Irresistible is a fun film from the early 80s that never takes itself to seriously. The story is cheesy and some of the props are lacking, but the film makes for a fun watch. Unfortunately, this version from VCX has been heavily cut, for seemingly no good reason, which has removed part of the story from the film and most of the point behind it. If you've never seen the film, you probably won't notice the edits, but if you have, you're sure to notice something is missing. The transfer isn't the best, but it's better than many other releases from VCX. If you are a fan of the classics and don't mind having an edited version of the film, this disc is worth picking up, but I'd wait for it to be on sale. [read the full review]

The Return of Johnny Wadd is a low spot in the long running Johnny Wadd series. The absence of Bob Chinn as a director is noticed and John C. Holmes is looking rather ragged here. Fans of the Johnny Wadd series will probably want to pick this up to complete their collection and fans of some of the stars who don't mind tame sex will probably enjoy the film. If you are new to the Johnny Wadd films, I'd recommend trying some of the ones made by Freeway Films and Bob Chinn before looking at this one. [read the full review]

Prisoner Of Paradise review summaries:
Such is the case in "Prisoner of Paradise", a very good, 1980 release from VCX and directors Gail Palmer and Bob Chinn.

VCX has done an acceptable job with the release using a video master and including no extras. [read the full review]

Tricked by lust and libation into accompanying a cute-but-crafty space princess (Robin Cannes) to a far away world from which no one returns, an adventurer (Paul Thomas) and his navigator (Richard Pacheco) find themselves in the clutches of a golden-hued, evil overlord of nigh infinite power. Such is the case in "Sex Wars", a very good, mid-80s sci-fi takeoff from Excalibur and Bob Vosse. [read the full review]

Sex Wars is a fun comedic sci-fi parody to come out of the mid-80s. The story is engaging and the sex scenes are well done. The picture is in good shape but the release is flawed by only being available as a manufacture on demand disc. [read the full review]

Sexcapades (VCA) review summaries:

Synopsis This 1983 Henri Pachard classic is a wholesome romp. Raincoaters can pass it by unless they are just in the mood for a little fun. The quirky humor, goofy music, and nostalgic feel of Sexcapades may please people who enjoy the feel of Pink Panther movies. The plot involves a director attempting to make a porn film. Scene 1 Joanna Storm and Alan Adrian perform a fumbling audition for two bored porn producers. Her earnest but misdirected enthusiasm is a real hoot. At one point she stops the sex to put socks under her knees to prevent rug-burn. Peter Meter = zero Scene 2 Sharon Mitchell plays a sexually clueless wife in a fluffy, unsexy nightie. Her alternately prudish and giggling responses to husband Eric Edwards will leave you feeling smug. She throws in a few moans for his inexpert cunnilingus. Peter Meter = zero Scene 3 Cartoonish music accompanies this goofy sex scene between Ashley Wells and Michael Bruce. [read the full review]

A simple call from a shady and manipulative ex-lover, Jamie Gillis, for a pair of hookers to service a high-end client goes horribly wrong for a madam with a heart of gold, Veronica Hart, when one of the two ladies meets her untimely demise in a swimming pool whilst on the job. Quickly, and despite trying to get out of the skin trade, Veronica finds herself buried deeper and deeper in a high stakes game of drugs, sex, and murder that can end in only one of two ways for the unsuspecting young woman...and only one of them is good. Such is the case in "Amanda By Night", a phenomenal, 1981 release from Caballero and director Robert McCallum. [read the full review]

One of the best American hardcore films ever made (by director Gary Graver) has been given a TERRIBLE DVD release by Caballero. A true genre masterpiece which features masterful performances from Veronica Hart, Richard Bolla, and especially Lisa DeLeeuw and Samantha Fox. A superior film in every respect which deserves a lot more than it has gotten on DVD. For that reason, pay more and get an old VHS. [read the full review]

Here is a Harold Lime/Robert McCallum classic from 1982 that is still famous over 20 years later. It won six adult film critic awards, including best picture. Because it was filmed near the end of the "golden age," there aren't quite as many exterior shots as there would have been in movies a few years older. The plot involves a madam named Amanda (Veronica Hart) who, as a favor to her former pimp and lover (Jamie Gillis), sets up an S & M session for a local politician. The girls that she sends for this session (Lisa de Leeuw and Samantha Fox) are later found dead. R. Bolla plays the straight-arrow homicide detective trying to solve the case, without much help from Amanda. To make matters worse, there's a corrupt vice squad cop (Ron Jeremy) who is constantly getting in the way. By today's standards, this is couples' fare, with relatively short sex scenes, and loads of plot. It's so good-hearted, it could almost be on the Family Channel. Veronica Hart gets to over-act and ham it up ridiculously. It's a good movie, but a poor DVD. [read the full review]

Sorority Pink 2: The Initiation review summaries:
Flash's
Sorority Pink 2 is a well-done film with a college sorority theme. Although the sex is tame, the story is fun. I recommend this film to those who like a porn with a plot and don't mind tame sex. Those who dislike a plot or require nastier sex will probably want to avoid. When renting/purchasing this film you will probably wish to pick up Sorority Pink as well as the story is spread over both discs. Although the series continues on with Sorority Pink 3, Jim Holliday continued the story in Sorority Sex Kittens - Part 1 to continue on from the ending of this film. [read the full review]
