I must admit that the LA BLUE GIRL series (vols. 1-6) from NuTech Digital is my favorite entry in the genre of "teenage girl ninja sexcraft warriors being raped by penis-tentacled demons" films (a category sadly overlooked at Oscar time each year). LA BLUE GIRL (don't ask me to explain the title because I don't what it has to do with anything - just another one of those stilted Japanese translations I guess) follows the sexual misadventures of Miko Mido (who we are repeatedly told is 18 (wink, wink) (just in case any of you perverts thought that she was an underage ninja "sexcraft" warrior which, of course, would be unacceptable)), a demon/human half-breed ninja of the Miroku clan whose task it is to protect the world from the perverted demons of the Shikima realm and the ninjas of the Suzuka clan who strive to control the Shikima. The song went to number one on both the pop and country charts, and later became the concept of a 1978 movie starring Barbara Eden, as well as a short-lived TV series also starring Eden. This film was shot around 1979 or 1980, and it is hot!! Jessie St. James is the star, but there is a lot of good female talent including Dorothy LeMay, Kay parker, and Sharon Kane. This film is surprisingly mean spirited, and some people will be disturbed by depictions of incest (compare the Kane-Gillis coupling in this film with the duo's scene in Michael Ninn's New Wave Hookers, almost 20 years later). The film is plot driven and the sex scenes are typically much shorter than today, but they are very effective. The film was shot on film, and the DVD transfer is very good. Its very clear and very well balanced. You can even hear the vibrators clearly which is pretty rare. The video isnt quite as good and varies between fairly pixelized and clear. As the movie goes on it seems to get better. Music: The music is also excellent. It varies a little but not much and is very well balanced. I wasn't sure what to expect as I popped in Coming to Beverly Hills. I expected there to be some good scenes and some attractive ladies but beyond that I had no idea. As I'm sure will be apparent, I really liked this movie and the DVD was well done. As I put the disc in, I was greeted with the Dolby Digital "City" Trailer. Very cool to have. (There is a DTS track but no DTS trailer is included.) Next, come the nicely animated movie themed menus. They're not super fancy but they are pretty good. On to the movie itself Nikita arrives and narrates about her arrival in Beverly Hills. Then the opening credits role and we see various shots of Beverly Hills. These are shot fairly well and edited together well. We then see Nikita enter the house where she is greeted by the maid, played by Dee, who then leaves to go get Madame(played by Christina St. James). Nikita looks around and we see a brief shot of Vicca running by nude upstairs. Madame is poolside sucking Michael J. Cox off. She promptly leaves when given the word that Nikita has arrived. There are 4 minor cuts made to the NuTech dvd that are not made to the VCX dvd though, but overall I feel confident in making a recommendation that you buy the NuTech dvd of Debbie Does Dallas because of the better picture quality and the fact that the movie is put on one track which eliminates the pauses that are present on the VCX disc while the movie switches between tracks. These 4 cuts do not amount to very much and you are not missing much in terms of actual sex or story. There are only 19 seconds total cut from the NuTech dvd so as I say your not missing much. The first thing that piqued my interest about this title was the prominent placement on the case saying all sex scenes are multiple angle. I was interested in where they found the extra footage and hoped this would be explained in the commentary. When the alternate angle icon showed up on the screen, I switched angles, to find that the "multiple angle" was merely the film reversed. There is no extra footage, and reversing the film has an interesting side effect, the lips don't match the voice. Throughout the rest of the movie, the angle icon becomes a constant reminder of the wool the studio tried to pull over the eyes of the viewers.Getting more into the action of the movie, this seems typical of 1970s porn and reminds me of Insatiable, another classic movie.
