Debbie Does Dallas (NuTech) Review

The First Word: In case you've been under a rock, Debbie Does Dallas is one of the best known adult films of all time, probably right after Deep Throat.  It's a must see for anyone who is interested in classic adult films, and a must-own for collectors.

What's It About?:  Debbie Benton (Bambi Woods) is a high school cheerleader who is selected to be a "Texas Cowgirl."  Unfortunately, her parents  don't want her to go and won't pay for her expenses.  So Debbie has to come up with a plan to raise the cash in two weeks.  Her cheerleading squad offers to help her raise the money -- maybe even enough to go with her -- and they decide to get part time jobs as a fundraiser.

Tammy (Arcadia Lake) goes to the record store, where Jimmy gives her a job.  Debbie goes to Greenfeld's Sporting Goods store and begs Mr. Greenfeld (R. Bolla) for a job.  Mr. Greenfeld, envisioning himself having his way with young Debbie, almost stumbles over himself to let her do odd jobs around the store, especially on weekends.  Roberta (Christie Ford) runs into Mr. Hardwick (Eric Edwards) while walking down the street, and when she explains their goal, he tells her that he and Mrs. Hardwick need help with inventory at their candle shop. Annie and Rikki (Jenny Cole and Sherri Tart) are going to wash Mr. Bradly's car.  Donna (Merle Michaels) has a job at the Library and Lisa (Georgette Sanders) has a job as a towel girl at the tennis courts.

After cheerleading practice, Pat (Kasey Rodgers) and Roberta are lingering in the locker room showers, when a group of football players (including well-known studs David Morris and Herschel Savage) come in, naked and ready for a 4 on 2 orgy on the shower floor.  After some clowning around, the sex starts in earnest with Roberta bobbing up and down on a very thick and hard penis.  From there, each guy gets some action (and in the case of Hershel, several times -- in fact he manages two very large pops) in what has to be most teenage guys' top fantasy.

Over at the Hardwick's Candle Shop, Roberta is organizing the inventory when a call comes in from her boyfriend.  After she hangs up, she starts to caress her body, eventually taking hold of a candle and putting it to good use.  Much to her embarrassment, she's caught red candled by Mrs. Hardwick (Robyn Byrd).  It turns out that Mrs. Hardwick gets off watching her husband fuck other women, so we get to see him pound the teen while Mrs. Hardwick diddles herself.

It's overcast and Mr. Bradly (David Suton) isn't home when Annie and Rikki go to wash his car, but they decide to wash the car anyway.  As they wash his Benz, it begins to rain, and the two Latinas, clad in tight hugging shorts and skimpy tops, have an spur of the moment water fight.  Mr. Bradly pulls up, sees that they are soaking wet, and invites them into his house so they can change into dry clothes.  On the way up, they ask if he's sure there isn't anything else they could do for him.  Once he's sure they aren't setting him up, he agrees to pay them $10 to disrobe.  He offers more money to "kiss you all over ... and I mean 'all over'," leading to some furry pussy licking.  From there, he doesn't care how much it costs, and the blank check gets him a blowjob and a chance to plant his dick in Annie's ass.

Back at the sporting goods store, Mr. Greenfeld can't keep his hands off Debbie, who refuses to go any farther with him.  He promises to pay for all of her trip expenses and the hotel costs for her squad.  When she asks what the catch is, he says they will work something out...  Meanwhile, Lisa helps Tammy work out her boss' cock at the record store in the form of a shared quickie blowjob.

Up to this point, Debbie has only been to first base in this X-rated classic, but with the film drawing to a close, we all know what is coming when Debbie shows up to Mr. Greenfeld's store after dark, dressed in an outfit resembling those of a certain professional football team's cheerleading squad.  After locking the doors, she finds Mr. Greenfeld, dressed as a football player and with his johnson poking out of his uniform.  He confesses that his ultimate fantasy was to be the quarterback and make love to the cheerleading captain.  So Debbie decides to fulfill his fantasy right there, in the aisle of his store, thereby securing her dream of being a Texas Cowgirl...

What I liked: Classic Golden Age adult cinema:  It's hard to explain why films like Debbie Does Dallas are considered classics or why they are so appealing to many fans.  Elements such as more developed plot lines, higher production values (such as custom written songs or music tracks, location shooting, and shot-on-film), and less emphasis on in-your-face hardcore set classic porn from today's modern offerings.  The performers aren't gorgeous (some are rather plain or worse), but they are all-natural, have an honest quality to their acting, and have genuine chemistry during sex.  There's a conscious effort to stimulate the mind, not just the genitals, by exploring fantasies and eroticism.  And let's not forget that there's not a lot of anal, girl-girl, or gynecologist shots in films prior to the early 80s.  While that will probably rule out this genre for the raincoaters among us, it's a welcomed change for couples and those seeking more refined porn.

Fun, fun, fun: All of the sex in Debbie Does Dallas is performed with real enthusiasm and zeal -- no mechanical fucking, jerking off for the money shot, bored looks, or ridiculously acrobatic positions.  From the orgy in the locker room shower, to Herschel's gooey pop in the library, to Debbie's "deflowering" at the hands of Mr. Greenfeld, it's all top notch porn.  Throw in some spanking, gratuitous nude girls showering, and a lot of lecherous men, and you've got a winner.

What I didn't like: That 70's Show: Often I hear from people that they don't like classic porn because the looks are dated and old fashioned.  That's definitely true with Debbie Does Dallas.  While it's not as obvious as other 70's movies, you still have a boat load of outdated fashions and locations, from clothing, to furniture, to hairdos.  When's the last time when you visited a record store?  Saw an athletic field with bright green astroturf?  Or witnessed Herschel Savage with an afro and huge, thick glasses?  The list goes on and on....  But while the styles change, the sex and eroticism remain.  I don't particularly care for the 70's look, but it's only a minor irritation.

Bush!!!:  While I like full bushes, the ladies (and men) in this movie have pubic hair to spare.  If you're expecting neatly trimmed bushes with shaved lips, you're going to be very disappointed.  What you will get is a pretty-typical view of what porn theater patrons saw as the ideal pussy look.  As I mentioned before, maybe the hair is a good thing for Debbie Does Dallas, since otherwise, some of the girls would look underage (and combined with references that the girls are 16 in the dialogue, this movie would probably have been censored or pulled from distribution.  Anyway, just a word of warning for those who can't stand pubes that aren't groomed or completely bald.

DVD Extras: None.  There's just a full-motion video chapter selection menu instead of a proper main menu.  No trailers, no photos, no nothing.  It would have been nice to see something other than bare-bones treatment for one of the best adult movies of all time, but fortunately the movie stands well by itself and the disc is often budget priced so you won't feel cheated.

A/V Quality: The video quality is good considering this is a late 70's release that was shot on film.  I've seen a lot of mainstream films of this era that look worse on DVD.  You'll see quite a bit of film scratches and other defects, but they aren't horrible.  Strangely, that seems to enhance its "classic" appeal as it looks like a porno you'd find under your dad's hidden collection.  The color balance seems to be okay and comparing it to the VHS copy of Debbie Does Dallas, there seems to be little difference between the two.  The audio is simple and is unremarkable, allowing you to enjoy the film without complaints about volume, static, or any major defects.

The Last Word: As long as you can get this one at a reasonable price, it's very unlikely that you'll be disappointed with this classic gem.  Bambi Woods is one of the most recognizable adult stars even though the number of movies she made can be counted with less than one hand, and Debbie Does Dallas is the reason why.  It would have been nice to have more extras on NuTech's DVD, but I still recommend it wholeheartedly.
