China Girl is a great feature film to have come from the 1970s featuring a fun plot, nice sex scenes, and good acting. Fans of plotted feature films should find a lot to like here. Vinegar Syndrome has done an excellent job with their release of China Girl with an absolutely stellar image and audio. The release is light on extras, however, the quality of the film on the release is worth the purchase alone. [read the full review]

fu_q's
A seemingly virginal, though certainly troubled, young woman, Rosemary (played by Sharon Thorpe), finds herself both unable to have sex unless in impersonal situations and also swirling further and further into madness, particularly upon the death of her estranged father. Where this disturbed path that her troubled psyche takes her upon will ultimately lead is anyone's guess, but one thing is for certain, and that's that it will be dark...and sexual. Such is the case in "Baby Rosemary", a bizarre, though very good, re-release of a 1976 Howard Perkins film by Vinegar Syndrome. [read the full review]

Jim and Artie Mitchell's Sodom and Gomorrah: The Last Seven Days is a truly bizarre adult film that tries to combine the story of Lot from Genesis with space aliens with disastrous results. The film boasts high production values but the pacing in the film is off, the story is ludicrous, and the sex scenes are extremely lacking. Sodom and Gomorrah: The Last Seven Days is an easy film to pass on. Mixing science and sexuality to help its clients fulfill their most intimate and deepest of desires, "Sex World" is a resort that ushers in groups of hand-picked tourists who are looking for a bit more out of their getaway than the standard vacation has to offer. Indeed, they're seeking sexual liberation and fulfillment--in one form or another--and Sex World is just the place to give it to them. Of course, along the way, the complexity and intricate, interwoven nature of human sexuality is explored. Such is the case in Anthony Spinelli's 1977 release of the same title, a landmark film in the history of adult fare. [read the full review]

Three Cheers For B J U review summaries:

During the Golden Age of adult films, there were many enjoyable adult films produced with good plots and good acting. The birth of DVD has caused a great many of those films to see the light of day again allowing those who enjoyed them in the theaters to enjoy them today along with a whole new audience that never got the chance to see them in the theaters originally. Along with these true classic adult films, the bottom of the barrel of the one day wonders are also resurfacing. Adult films that for all right should have been lost to time that are also being brought back out to the light of day. Unfortunately, Three Cheers for B.J.U. is the latter. [read the full review]

Zachary Strong attempted to do something new and original with Visions of Clair. However, the end result is sadly an incoherent mess. The story goes all over the place and doesn't ever make sense of itself and the majority of the sex scenes are shot and edited in a way that makes them completely inaccessible. Visions of Clair is an easy film to skip. Cal Vista has done an acceptable job with their release with a watchable picture and listenable audio but not much more. [read the full review]

VISIONS OF CLAIR (1977) is a Cal Vista Classic re-release on DVD of the 1977 VHS video. The box art description (in part) states - "A film in the style of Emmanuelle, but with a raw passion of The Story of O. Clair has a powerful, almost supernatural attraction to those about her. Living alone in her stately mansion, she attracts the most fascinating men and women to her estate, where seemingly bound her aberrant desires, they eagerly give themselves sexually to her and to each other." I like Annette Haven, she has done some excellent films and this description captured my interest. The only part of this description I recognized after viewing the film was "almost supernatural." When trying to examine a classic hardcore film, one must take several things into consideration: 1) The acting/plot might not be as good or coherent as one might like, and what is usually left is akin to grade B Hollywood fare. 2) There will probably be too much sex and it will take away from the story. 3) The production values won't always be top notch. Well China Girl is one of those rare films that truly does work "both ways" so to speak. In one sense, it is a sex filled hardcore romp and on the other hand, a rather mild B-movie style spy yarn. Featuring the beautiful Annette Haven in her first major starring role, China Girl revolves around a silly storyline of a secret government science project to create a drug which makes people have to tell everything they know about some prompted topic, sort of like truth serum, I guess. Sound confusing? To be honest, the exact purpose of this drug is never made clear so forgive me. [read the full review]

This 1978 golden age classic by Bob Chinn is a lot of good, dirty fun. The set is convincing, and many have thought it was shot in a hospital although it was really shot on a sound stage in San Francisco. The acting is reasonably good, although the plot isn't complicated: a bunch of hospital patients who are more horny than sick, and three candy stripers willing to serve any way they can, including sexually. Many have commented that the women in classic porn are not as good looking as today's crop. Although that is generally true, Amber Hunt, for example, could hold her own even in today's porn biz. Arrow has done an outstanding job restoring sound and picture, and one of the cutest things about this movie is the song that was composed and performed for it. The fact that golden age adult films frequently had a song written specifically for them is one of the things that separates them from the current industry. [read the full review]

NOTE: This is not your typical review. Others have done an excellent job reviewing the content, scenes, performances, etc. of this porn classic. This "review" concerns itself with how the DVD's contents compare with the complete, uncut original release version of the film or an early (before prior self-censorship) VHS version. The Ratings given refer either to the "original" version of the film (Performers, Plot, Sex, etc.) or to the DVD version (Extras, Value, etc.) and are relatively arbitrary. The important info is that which follows. CANDY STRIPERS ALL THERE Bob Chinns 1978 classic, Candy Stripers has been brought to DVD by Arrow Films, who has done a great job of restoring the film as well as giving us ALL of it (sort of). For those who havent heard, there are two infamous scenes in the film (both involving fisting) that have long been cut out for fear of the dreaded porn police. Both scenes are present on the DVD, but not in their original positions in the complete film, which remains edited in this presentation.

Mixing science and sexuality to help its clients fulfill their most intimate and deepest of desires, "Sex World" is a resort that ushers in groups of hand-picked tourists who are looking for a bit more out of their getaway than the standard vacation has to offer. Indeed, they're seeking sexual liberation and fulfillment--in one form or another--and "Sex World" is just the place to give it to them. Such is the case in Anthony Spinelli's 1977 release of the same title, a landmark film in the history of adult fare. [read the full review]

Corey Thomas'
Anthony Spinelli's "Sex World" is a movie that I have been wanting to see for a very long time. I finally obtained a copy of this 1978 classic and the wait was well worth it. As an adult movie with a real plot and actors who could actually act, this film is effective on several levels: As erotica, a character study, and a psychological drama. There are many characters to keep track of here and the movie is practically a who's who of porn in 1978. The story revolves around a group of people taking a chartered bus to a resort known as "Sex World". The characters include Annette Haven as a lesbian left by her lover (Cris Cassidy), who comes to the resort looking for a heterosexual encounter; an adult movie enthusiast (Sharon Thorpe) who can't express her desires in real life; a racist (John Leslie) who is slowly seduced by black beauty Desiree West, and several couples having various sexual problems. The sex scenes themselves are pretty short, since they are so numerous in number, but they are all beautifully shot and uniquely erotic. [read the full review]

3 A.M. review summaries:

Nu Tech's release of Gary Graver's 1975 classic film 3 A.M. is certainly one of the finest classic releases to come from any porn company. This superior film with masterful performances from Georgina Spelvin and one shot wonder Charles Hooper was the first hardcore feature from former Orson Welles protégé Graver (Amanda By Night, V The Hot One). Graver skillfully combines Bergman like cinematographic techniques with almost existential philosophies, resulting in one of the most accomplished hardcore films ever made. [read the full review]

Running Time: 86 min. Production Date: sometime in the 1970s Director: Robert McCallum Cast: Georgina Spelvin, Rhonda Gallard, Judith Hamilton, Clair Dia, Frank Mauro, Charles Hooper, Rob Rose, and Sharon Thorpe Initial Expectations: NuTech has been doing a good job bringing back some of the classic adult films from the 1970s. Im hoping this is another one worth their effort. Initial Reaction: Its a nice change from todays standard porn, but kind of a let down. Who Should Watch It : Fans of classic porn, couples, and people who like a strong storyline and extremely realistic looking people Who Should Avoid It: Fans of hardcore porn and raincoaters Audio /Video Quality: Although it might be older than I am, NuTech has done a pretty good job of restoring 3 a.m. . The audio is pretty clear throughout the feature as is the video. There are quite a few scratches in the film and a lot of it is dark, but for the age of the film its pretty good.
