There are many characters to keep track of here and the movie is practically a who's who of porn in 1978. The story revolves around a group of people taking a chartered bus to a resort known as "Sex World". The characters include Annette Haven as a lesbian left by her lover (Cris Cassidy), who comes to the resort looking for a heterosexual encounter; an adult movie enthusiast (Sharon Thorpe) who can't express her desires in real life; a racist (John Leslie) who is slowly seduced by black beauty Desiree West, and several couples having various sexual problems.
The sex scenes themselves are pretty short, since they are so numerous in number, but they are all beautifully shot and uniquely erotic. The best scenes are the John Leslie/Desiree West pairing, which plays in small bits throughout the movie and the Annette Haven/Cris Cassidy flashback, which while only about a minute, is beautifully photographed and very passionate. The Leslie/West scene is especially erotic, considering she spends a fair time convincingly (and very sexily) seducing him, as well as it being only shown a bit at a time, which makes it kind of a tease, as well.
The extras on this DVD are certainly a disappointment. This would've been a great DVD to have a commentary track on. I'm not sure if Anthony Spinelli is still alive, but many of the people in the film certainly are, and their comments would have been invabluable. Even the most bare bones of discs normally at least have photo galleries, but this disc has merely chapter stops as the only other option than viewing the film. The video and audio are pretty good for a movie of this age, although for the first few minutes of the movie, a VCX slogan appears on the top and bottom of the screen, which is somewhat annoying and towards the middle of the movie, the audio goes silent for about a minute. I assume that this is an artifact on the original print, for it is very momentary and none of the dialogue missed seem very important.
This is one of the better classics I have viewed, and certainly would rank on the top of a must-see list if I compiled one. The acting is very good, especially Annette Haven, John Leslie, and Desiree West. And the ending is also touching in a sort of unconventional way. All in all, I recommend this movie to anyone into classic porn, character-driven stories, or interracial sex. If nothing else, this movie confirms that porn, in many ways, has certainly not made a step forward, but a giant step backward.
