This 1980 New York production may be the only Gerard Damiano video I've ever seen. Typcially, "golden age" adult movies are pretty tame by today's standards. That isn't the case with this one. Right away there's an anal scene, followed shortly by a double penetration. There's also a scene where a man is penetrated by a dildo. In the original movie, there was a fisting scene and a golden shower scene, both of which have been cut from this dvd (and, unlike Arrow's DVD of "Candy Stripers" are unfortunately not hidden in an easter egg). The plot involves a futuristic society called "Alpha Blue," in which the prevailing custom is sex without commitment or attachment. Herschel Savage (early in his amazing three decades-long career) is happy with this state of affairs, but R. Bolla pines for the good old days of love and romance. Bolla decides that he will woo Satisfier 805 (Lysa Thatcher) into falling in love with him. From my local smut peddler, I recently picked up a used DVD of PANDORA'S MIRROR (1981) with the lovely Veronica Hart as Pandora, a woman who becomes obsessed with sexually charged trysts revealed in a mirror at an antique store. And, to be fair, the pair does, indeed, eventually strike it rich--but in pussy, not crude--and they do score quite frequently, as well--just not in picking up property. The premises is promising enough: hookers form a taxi company with the added bonus of sex, but when the film gets down to it, there's just too much sex. Characters and characterization is sacrificed on the alter of carnality. Promising subplots are thrown out in exchanged for excess screwing. There are a few amusing moments, but the film wastes its excellent cast, among them the always welcome Serena and the magnificent Nanci Suiter on material more suited for a perverse elementary school play. Viewers that hate a porn with their plot, like one on one sex scenes or hate the style of earlier sex scenes will want to avoid this film. Many moons ago, when I would come home from college, I had access to a group of xxx titles to watch in my Dad's top-loading VCR. SEX BOAT (1980 and 2006 VCX) was one of those flicks. Directed by David I. Fraser and Svetlana, written and edited by Fraser, SEX BOAT is a crazy concoction that's part SOME LIKE IT HOT, part LOVE BOAT plus some pirates are thrown in for good measure. A couple of dolts dressed like women (Turk Lyon and Randy West) are stowaways on an all girls cruise and lame comedy antics ensue. However, SEX BOAT stays afloat because of the most incredible cast of beautiful female performers ever assembled for a xxx film.
