Sunset Entertainment could have made a definitive collector's edition of Deep Throat with a new color corrected 2K scan of Deep Throat, a 2K scan of Deep Throat - Part 2, with the uncut version of the film, and collected all of the extras that have appeared on the various Deep Throat releases over the years. Instead, we get this release, which doesn't offer anything that hasn't already been offered before. If you don't own either the High Def Entertainment DVD of Deep Throat or the Intimate Film Blu-ray of Deep Throat the Sunset Entertainment release might be worth buying on a significant sale. 5 Films 5 Years 1 (Blu-ray) review summaries:
Flash's
5 Films 5 Years Volume 1: Golden Age Erotica is an excellent limited edition Blu-ray collection of five classic adult films. The set contains Too Naughty to Say No, Hot and Saucy Pizza Girls, The Ribald Tales of Canterbury, Prisoner of Paradise, and Dixie Ray Hollywood Star. The films on the release span from 1978 to 1985 and, honestly, fans of golden age adult films should find several to their liking, even if not all of the films included are favorites. None of the films on this release have ever looked better on home video and 5 Films 5 Years Volume 1: Golden Age Erotica is definitely worth picking up before it is sold out. [read the full review]

Deep Throat (Blu-ray) (Intimate) review summaries:
Flash's
Deep Throat is a historically significant film within the adult film industry due to the part the film played in kicking off the porno chic era. That aside, Deep Throat is nowhere near the best film to come out of the golden age of adult films nor was it anywhere near the best film to have been made by Gerard Damiano. Deep Throat is a cute comedy that will give the viewer some laughs and offers some nice looking sex scenes. Deep Throat is worth watching but don't expect anything groundbreaking here. Intimate Film has done a frustrating job with their Blu-ray and DVD combo mediabook release of Deep Throat. The image appears to have been upscaled from 720p poorly to 1080p for the release and the audio sounds very flat. [read the full review]

Dark Dreams (Vinegar Syndrome) review summaries:
Flash's
Vinegar Syndrome has done an absolutely stunning job with their DVD release of Roger Guermantes 1971 film Dark Dreams. Unfortunately, the film, itself, isn't that good. Dark Dreams is a horror/adult feature film hybrid which is a dream-based film. Even when the viewer reaches the end of the film, the plot makes little sense and the film is very erratically edited with some less than erotic sex scenes. Dark Dreams looks absolutely beautiful on this release, however, the film itself is impossible to recommend. [read the full review]

Trashy Lady (Blu-ray + DVD Combo) (Vinegar Syndrome) review summaries:
fu_q's
When a big-time, 1920's gangster's (Harry Reems') whiny girlfriend (Cara Lott) hits the road, he's quick to find another main squeeze in the form of a fresh-off-the-bus cigarette girl (Ginger Lynn) at one of his clubs. Unfortunately for Harry, while Ginger has all of the requisite physical attributes (...and then some...) to meet his picky standards, she's a bit too innocent and proper for his low-brow tastes. What's a guy to do when faced with such dire circumstances? Well...employ his incarcerated buddy's, and fellow gangster's (Herschel Savage's), tawdry girlfriend (Amber Lynn) to train her, of course. What could possibly go wrong, right? Such is the case in "Trashy Lady", an exceptional re-release of director Steve Scott's 1985 masterpiece from Vinegar Syndrome. [read the full review]

Too Naughty To Say No (Vinegar Syndrome) review summaries:
Rick L. Blalock's
In the 1984 film, TOO NAUGHTY TO SAY NO, "Betty"(Angel) is a good little Catholic Schoolgirl, who attends the local convent. Betty is studying her scriptures hard, as it is the day before the school's final exam. However, no matter how much she studies, she is hung up on a single, word, which appears several times throughout the writings. That would is "begat". She's not quite sure what it means. However, little did she know that soon enough, she would get at a heavy dose of "begatting"(of orgasms!). That's because soon, Betty doses off to sleep, as she subsequently finds her in a world unlike the one that she is accustomed. To her, it all looks the same, that is until things take a turn for the perverse. [read the full review]

This edition doesn't contain the original version of The Love Witch but instead only includes the modified version of The Love Witch, which has cheaply produced courtroom segments that were created by Louis Peraino with Harry Reems. Honestly, The Love Witch is a mess with the original version of The Love Witch massacred by the new footage and inserted dialog (This isn't to say that The Love Witch was a good film before the alterations based on what is presented here it wasn't.). Forbidden Under Censorship of the King is an odd adult film that was never able to find the right audience during its short theatrical life. The film is more of an oddball comedy than a porn film and, frankly, the film isn't that erotic. Forbidden Under Censorship of the King likely would have done far better as the softcore film that the writer and director Barry Kerr intended the film to originally be. Forbidden Under Censorship of the King is worth watching for those with an odd sense of humor. The manufacture on demand release from Stoll Road Films is disappointing though. [read the full review]

Alpha Blue Archives' Christy Canyon Triple Feature Four brings together three mid-80s shot on video movies that are only related by the fact that Christy Canyon stars in all three of them. The three movies contained on the release are John Stagliano's Evil Angel, a hardbody feature, Hal Freeman's Sinfully Yours, an essentially all sex movie, and Mark Carriere's Savage Fury, a video roughie. Sinfully Yours is the best of the movies on the release with both Evil Angel and Savage Fury feeling like they were rushed productions. The Erotic Dr. Jekyll is one of the many adult films that has come out that plays on the novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Lewis Stevenson. Despite the source work being perfect for transformation into the adult film world, The Erotic Dr. Jekyll does a very poor job with the story and the sex scenes, to areas of vital importance for a feature-style adult film. As a result, The Erotic Dr. Jekyll is unlikely to appeal to many viewers. Video-X-Pix has done a good job with their DVD release of The Erotic Dr. Jekyll. An anthology of early 80s era porn. A couple people actually deserve the "superstar" status but most don't. The credits (and lack thereof) defy logic. Big Raider Fan's
The Devil In Miss Jones is the 40th Anniversary Edition from VCX. This is a 2 disc set, presented in widescreen format. The transfer looks pretty good, considering the age of the film. The first disc contains the XXX feature, with optional commentary from Gerard Damiano, while the second disc has the softcore version. Worth having if you enjoy classic porn. [read the full review]

This is a classic film that I’m sure everyone has heard of. VCX has just released a 40th anniversary edition (never mind that it’s only 36 years old) in a special 2-disk “Definitive Collector’s Edition). Every porn fan should at least have an understanding of the classics and should view this film at least once. Porn has evolved greatly since DMJ was mad (and for the better, IMO). "Sensuous Vixens" chronicles the life of a young woman (played by the "original porn star" herself, the lovely Tina Russell) who moved to New York City at an early age and who bounces from odd job to odd job in trying to find both her place and her way in the world. Of course, this being a porno, those odd jobs all end up possessing a strong sexual component, and Tina ultimately finds herself on the path toward the world of adult films. Whether she'll find success, true love, or even true lust there remains fully up in the air and is the question of the day. Such is the case in this very good, 1971 release from Freddie Williams and VCX that offers up a young Tina Russell in her prime, along with a distinctly early-70's pornographic vibe...all done to excellent effect. The 1970 release from the Amero Brothers, "Bacchanale", touts itself as "the ultimate hardcore film"...it's right there on the cover. Indeed, in the opinion of this reviewer, absolutely nothing could be further from the truth. First off, this production wasn't even intended to be a hardcore flick. It was a softcore film that had hardcore inserts performed by Tina Russell, Jason Russell, and Harry Reams added in due to the burgeoning explicit market at the time. Second, it's a serious waste of time in just about every other respect, as well. [read the full review]

Forced Entry is the first feature to come from director Shaun Costello, that sadly isn't that good. VCX's Ultimate Classic Collection combines two of VCX's most popular classic adult films Debbie Does Dallas and Devil in Miss Jones. Debbie Does Dallas continues to be an extremely popular adult film even to this day and is likely one of the best known of all adult films. Inside Deep Throat review summaries:
Ryder7's
A documentary exploring the societal impact the adult film known as Deep Throat had on mainstream America. "Deep Throat" was just another X-Rated adult film when it was made in 1972. Finished in six days, for the sum of $25,000, (financed by the mob) the film to date has grossed over $600 Million dollars. Inside Deep Throat makes a decent albeit incomplete attempt at explaining how & why it became so popular. The documentary explores the subject of pornography, and how the U.S. Government under Nixon had a problem with it. It's interesting to note the timeliness of this documentary in light of the current Bush Administrations' recent witchhunting pronouncement on an all new "war on porn"... It seems the events of 30 years ago are trying to replay themselves and makes Inside Deep Throat a must see. Deep Throat was made by former hairdresser and acclaimed porn director Gerard Damiano and starred an actress who went by the screen name of Linda Lovelace. [read the full review]

I had high hopes for Inside Deep Throat but the film fell short of what I was hoping for. That isn't to say it is not an enjoyable film to watch, but expect more of an overview of culture in the 70s and the rise of adult films then than a documentary that manages to focus directly on Deep Throat. Fans of films from the Golden Age will probably enjoy this film and viewers who don't understand why some adult movie studios are afraid of going to jail for content in adult films should watch this film as well. I'd recommend giving the film a rental over purchasing it. [read the full review]

Miss Passion and Love Bites Double Feature Directed by: Suze Randall - Initial Thoughts: Flashback time, back to the days of bush and big hair. For this disc, we take a trip back to the 80's, when Amber and Ginger Lynn were all the rage in porn, and features ruled the day. Suze Randall brings us a double feature, one movie from each of these two super babes catalogue. Miss Passion features Ginger Lynn, and is hosted by Suze Randall as "Suze Cooze" and is kind of this mix between a sexual exhibition and a porn gameshow, basically the precursor to Gonzo, with some style and costumes added. Love Bites features Amber Lynn, and is more of a traditional feature, with a focus on fantasy. Both features are cut down a bit, "Miss Passion is missing about 19 minutes and 2 scenes, Ginger and Traci and Steve Drake and Traci. "Love Bites" is missing nearly 25 minutes, and I couldn't find how many scenes since there was no good breakdown anywhere I looked. Again Traci is the reason. [read the full review]

The Mitchell Brothers' "Grafenberg Spot" was a movie described in the book "Bottom Feeders" as a "six-day wonder shot to fund legal expenses". By the sounds of that description, you would think that the movie is a piece of shit. "The Grafenberg Spot", however is a quite watchable, and actually very entertaining film that while doesn't reach the standards of "Behind the Green Door" or "The Resurrection of Eve", is still a must-see in the adult genre. The cast in this movie are amazing. It is certainly a who's who of adult cinema in 1985. Ginger Lynn, Harry Reems, Annette Haven, John Holmes, Amber Lynn, Nina Hartley, Lili Marlene, Rick Savage. Traci Lords was in the original version of the film. Story tells of a comparative literature graduate named Leslie (played by Ginger), who has the habit of pissing in her lover's (Harry Reems) face while getting eaten out. She goes to a clinic where a doctor (Annette Haven) teaches her about the Grafenberg pleasure spot. [read the full review]

Such is the case in "Ultimate Lover", an exceptional, 1986 release from director Thomas Paine and VCX. [read the full review]

Corporate Assets (VCX) review summaries:
fu_q's
It's a dark and lonely world for a corporate prostitute, Tish Ambrose, who, despite having all of her material needs met and then some, only finds true happiness in the letters of a mentally troubled war buddy, Eric Edwards, of her deceased brother. Indeed, Tish appears to have it all as the longstanding head-lady of R. Bolla's cadre of corporate cuties, who provide sexual services to both the better employees of his firm and corrupt politicians alike, yet her heart yearns to quench its emptiness. It's solely Edwards' writings that can fill this void, so it's with great happiness that she greets him when he finally gets up the courage to surprise her with a visit. Of course, this doesn't sit well with Bolla, her boss, whose strong-arm tactics clash with the pair's feelings for one another violently. How it will all end up--happily or in blood...or both--remains the unanswered question of the day. Such is the case in "Corporate Assets", an exceptional, 1985 release. [read the full review]

Summer Of Laura review summaries:
KayParker33's
Along a lonely beach on a summer colony off the Long Island coast, a man walks slowly, reliving a summer, the summer of Laura, when he was 19. Richie has a friend on the island, Gene, who is gregarious and mischievous. Like the more sensitive Richie, he too, was 19. During that summer of awakening he loses his youthful desires and develops his manhood. On the way to the movies, Richie literally bumps into Laura, an older woman who lives nearby. She asks him if he'll help her with some chores the following day. He is totally flustered, but agrees. Richie goes to her house and after knocking on the door, and getting no response, enters. On the floor he finds a crumpled telegram which reads, "Your husband, Bob Hayes, has been killed in action." Laura appears, lonely and vulnerable. She moves toward him in a gesture of human contact. They slowly begin to dance. "That summer we lost five Frisbees, saved a girl from a silly snake, saw our first skin flick, and I lost my Laura." The sea rises [read the full review]

Year: 1974 Length: 73 minutes approximately MEMORIES WITHIN MISS AGGIE from 1974 by porn director legend Gerard Damiano is a true classic, that is given a truly terrible dvd transfer. Although advertised as available from Arrow dvd by Excalibur films, this is in fact a transfer they themselves have done of the film from an old Arrow vhs of the film. The transfer is horrible and that is the only thing that keeps me from giving this film a perfect rating. This movie is one of the best porn films I've seen, and it holds it's own as a film story wise also, which is important as this one aims to be a feature. The story behind this film is that Miss Aggie is a slightly crazy middle aged woman, who imagines the ways she met her current companion and she has flashbacks imagining herself as a young woman having sex with him as a young man. The first scene is between Eric Edwards and Kim Pope and it's pretty good, they are both very innocent in this scene. It's strange to see Eric Edwards so young looking as he was in this film. This 1984 release from Cal Vista is a couple of years too recent to be considered "Golden Age," but is definitely a classic. Produced by Sam Norvell and directed by Robert McCallum, it features 70s porn superstar Annette Haven, along with John Leslie, Harry Reems, R. Bolla, and Hershel Savage. It also features "Angel" who was breifly the rage during the mid-1980s. She does a scene with Leslie and another with R. Bolla. My favorite performer is the under-celebrated Janey Robbins. She had a great body and was a very enthusiastic sex performer. Robbins also has a cute Minnesota accent (like the female sheriff in "Fargo"). Here, she does two scenes, one with R. Bolla and one with Hershel Savage (a purported incest scene). Strangely, it appears that this movie was intended to have a sequel, but I've never seen it, and I don't think it was ever made. Nu-tech has done an acceptable job on the DVD transfer; it looks much better than the tape I had. Nu-tech also features Dolby surround sound, but I couldn't detect any improvement in the sound. Erotic City (NuTech) review summaries:
classic connoisseur's
Year: 1985 Length: 86 minutes Even though this is part of the NuTech line of Classic dvd collecion series this is certainly no classic. You might think it is by looking at the cast involved (Harry Reems, Jamie Gillis, John Leslie, Amber Lynn) and directed by Robert McCallum, but unfortunately the sex and the storyline to this movie are severely lacking. The plot to this story is supposed to be something similar to that of a soap opera, but I didn't find it to be any more similar to a soap opera than any other porn film I've seen. Basically the problem is that there was no plot at all and this is a problem in a porn film that pretends to have a plot. This movie pretended to have a story line and it had just enough to get in the way but not enough to make any sense, so this is one problem. Either they should have just went wall to wall sex with this one or have developed the story line more fully and made a full feature sex film out of this movie. [read the full review]

Due to the video problems if you are a fan of the film or it sounds like a good movie to you, you probably want to wait and hope that a better version of it gets released in the future. "Marilyn Chambers Private Fantasies 4", the fourth installment in the Marilyn-driven, 1980's fantasy vignette series from I-Candy, offers up seven sequences starring the former Ivory Snow Girl, all nominally representative of her various fantasies and/or experiences. One of the true adult legends of yesteryear, Marilyn is in top form here...athletic, fit, and firm...and it's clear that she, as of the time of this filming, hasn't lost a sexual step from her earlier days in the industry. Despite clocking in at only about 80 minutes, all of the sequences are erotic, well-captured, and well set up...and every instant seems used to excellent effect. [read the full review]

Production Date: 1972 Director: Gerard Damiano Cast: Clair Lumiere (aka Judith Hamilton), Georgina Spelvin, Sue Flaken (aka Erica Havens), Harry Reems, Levi Richards, Marc Stevens, and Rick Livermore in sexual roles and Gerard Damiano and John Clemens in non-sex roles The Short Story Initial Expectations: This movie is a true classic thats come back time after time. I cant help but look forward to it. Initial Reaction: Although the DVD as a whole leaves plenty to be desired, the movie definitely deserves to be seen. Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants real looking women and artistic porn Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who wants long sex scenes The Technical Stuff Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty well done. The audio is clear and well balanced, although some of the scenes only have music for audio. The video has a bit of grain, which is to be expected with a movie which was shot on film in the early seventies. [read the full review]

Length: 65:39 Year: 1973 Starring: Georgina Spelvin.... as Justine Jones Harry Reems..........as The Teacher John Clemens.........as Abaca Al Gork..............as Man in cell Claire Lumiere Sue Flaken The VCX dvd of The Devil In Miss Jones is presented letterboxed (mostly). The beginning track through the titles is not letterboxed (the first 2:12 and the last 0:47), but the rest of the movie is letterboxed at what appears to be a ratio of 1.66:1 The plot to this movie is that Justine Jones being depressed commits suicide and this being an unforgivable sin she has to go to Hell. Deep Throat (VCA) review summaries:

Comical, clever, risque, and featuring an erotic talent (deep-throating) then unknown to a much more innocent world, it's easy to understand why Gerard Damiano's "Deep Throat", starring Ms. Linda Lovelace, took the early 1970's by storm. [read the full review]

Fans of Golden Age erotica will definitely want to pick up a copy of Deep Throat as no classic collection will be complete without it. For when this DVD was released, this was a good edition, the extras are lacking but the transfer looks nice. Arrow has now released a more complete version without the cuts and with some extras which is a much better buy but is harder to find. Viewers who are just interested in seeing what all the talk was about are better off renting the title first as if they are used to the films of today, they are bound to be disappointed. Deep Throat is perhaps the most famous porn film of all time. It is certainly a good movie, but certainly not one of the best. It isn't in the same class as films such as The Opening of Misty Beethoven or The Devil In Miss Jones. I found the soundtrack to the movie, which was original music, to be quite fitting and to give the movie a nice feeling. The title track especially is a catchy tune, "don't row a boat, don't get your goat, that's all she wrote, deep throat" it does stick in your head. The plot to the movie what there is of one is that Linda Lovelace isn't enjoying sex as much as she'd like, so she and her friend throw an orgy, this doesn't get Linda's bell's ringing though so Linda's friend talks Linda into seeing a Doctor played by Harry Reems. He discovers that her clitoris is in her throat, and encourages her to learn the art of deep throat starting right there with him. This really gets her bells ringing. [read the full review]
