Review:
Comical, clever, risque, and featuring an erotic talent (deep-throating) then unknown to a much more innocent world, it's easy to understand why Gerard Damiano's "Deep Throat", starring Ms. Linda Lovelace, took the early 1970's by storm. Indeed, the film was outrageously popular and defined not only the era, but also shaped the future of X-rated cinema itself. As such, it's a shame that so much controversy followed the production over the years--particularly in light of some of the later and more serious claims made by Lovelace herself--tarnishing, at least somewhat, its overall luster. To a large degree, the finer points of this debate still persist even today. Regardless--and issues aside--this is a very good flick that is both worthy of a watch and truly a must-see for anyone who lays claim to being an aficionado of adult fare.
Plot-wise, Linda Lovelace plays the part of a young woman who, despite her and her friend's best efforts, is unable to get off from typical intercourse. This, of course, is due to the fact that her clitoris, as Harry Reams' doctor character discovers, is actually in her throat. Hence, to truly orgasm, she must deep-throat her lovers. Along the way, Linda joins up with Harry for a time as a nurse, and she embarks upon a voyage to find the ultimate, long-dicked lover and to live happily ever after.
In terms of the sex, Scene One finds Ted Street eating out Dolly Sharp on the kitchen table, despite the fact that Linda Lovelace walks in on them mid-munch. They continue on after she leaves and are pretty much unperturbed while she's there.
In Scene Two, Linda Lovelace takes it anally and vaginally in her bedroom from a mustached dude who ultimately unloads on her backside.
In Scene Three, which is inter-cut with the next sequence and a continuation of the prior sequence, Dolly Sharp takes on two guys (John Byron and Jack Birch) in the living room, as Linda's doing her thing in the bedroom. While it's something of a shame that the film has been marred by such controversy over the years, there's still something good and fun to be found here, if one can look beyond it all.
