We have made no bones about our attraction to the fine work that the under-recognized Maya (now known as Wendy) Divine has churned out in her blossoming career. We also feel quite strongly that one of the major studios should be paying attention to this starlet before someone signs her. The last week of April of this year, we once again were able to see the HBO special Strippers that first introduced us to this beauty. Following her town by town throughout the Midwest in the middle of winter we were treated her beautiful features, but were also able to see a real world inside view of how tough the life of these ladies is. When we first saw this special a few years ago, we noticed that it closed with the news that Wendy had went on to star in adult film. Last weekend we decided that we should set out to see what Maya selections were available that we have not seen yet. There was no story or anything. Just a bunch of sex scenes with "artsy" music and style. It had that "artistic expression" feel. I didn't really like any of the sex scenes. Even the heterosexual ones. Too much anal. and overall nothing excited me about them. I was bored all the way through. I like Devinn Lane--she's really somethin' to look at. Absolutely a knock out! I streamed this video after reading many reviews for various films on this site. this one seemed like it had the goods. unfortunately, it was really not any better than any other mass-market adult film. nothing that really set it apart. the premise could have been good, although a bit overused - the dull marital sex, woman semi-frigid looking for adventure. and chloe is believable as the main character. her scene with spears is excellent, making the film worth the price of admission. their scene is the only one that rises above (no pun intended) the rote, basic porn stuff. quite simply, chloe and spears have heat, and their stairway encounter is believable and builds friction. spears is just tough enough to frighten, intrigue and excite chloe, all at once. if the heat in this scene could have been replicated a bit more through the film it would have gotten higher marks. and if chloe is a novice at experimentation why didn't she get it on with two men - say spears and ... With films like "Dark Garden" and "Bliss" showing up on DVD, complete with director's commentaries and "making of featurettes," VCA has done a commendable job releasing high profile prestige projects in today's porn market. Directors like Antonio Passolini and Michael Ninn are among the very few filmmakers who actually employ mood and atmosphere as a backdrop for good old athletic sucking and fucking, and the results are exceptional, solid erotic films as opposed to assembly-line porn vids.However, the formulaic, shot-on-videotape pornos which were so prevalent in the late eighties and nineties can often be equally arousing, despite their cheesy looks or cliched plots; it just all depends on a competent director, and hot performers. BRIDE ON THE RUN, a recent VCA release, fits that exact bill.
