Michael Ninn's: Inside Myself Preview Expectations: I'm expecting art and some level of oddity in this movie. Mr. Ninn has a unique style to his porn, but there is usually a decent if not difficult to follow story that goes with it, and a hard edge art style to things to piece it all together. I could be wrong and that could be way off here, but from the cover it looks about right. I've been hit or miss with some of his works, but mostly I like the style. I'm a big fan of Nikita Denise, but am mostly unfamiliar with the rest of the cast, so I'm curious to find out the contents. Initial Thoughts: I guessed about right on this one, the Ninn style is if full effect here, and if you follow Ninn, than to better describe this one, think of the cutting and washout segments from his "Latex" movies from the mid 90's. Michael Ninn is beginning to give Andrew Blake a run for his money with his Art Porn films released under the Ninn Worx label. In fact, his movies share a number of drop-dead gorgeous models. In this movie, the headline is given to Justine (aka Swan), a Blake discovery. Plotless, the film is simply a series of vignettes of fashion-plate models artfully photographed and happily wanking away once they've shed sufficient clothing. Breaking down into five sections, each section consists of two or so sequences of solo performances - strip and masturbation - then the two (or three) solo artistes have a lesbianic encounter involving glass implements. All very picturesque, but oddly passionless. That's a criticism often aimed at Andrew Blake. The women in the movies kiss and do a bit of play lesbianism, but nobody really gets into the mood, or gets a froth on. It has the burden of some relatively high expectations considering the success of "Perfect". "Acid Dreams" is not perfect if you'll excuse the pun. It has some very strong scenes, but is a very uneven film. I'm generally a huge Ninn fan as well usually impressed with so called "artsy porn". Unfortunately Ninn lost me with his constantly skewed yellow color pallet and effects that failed to compliment the sexual action. This disc does manage to produce a few quality scenes and a great find in Mercedes. Plot "San Fransisco 1965 and the CIA is using brain bending techniques to test the psychosexual extremes of their subjects. Mind control is the name of the game, and mind blowing chicks are the bait. Set against the background of the cold war, Washington is going all out to win the race for mind control supremacy. [read the full review]

European pornographic powerhouse Private being one of my favorite and most dependable studios and Michael Ninn being among my favorite directors I hoped their coming together might mean a marriage of all the best things American porn and European porn had to offer. Ok so my expectations were a little unrealistic. Perfect is an extremely good film, but not a great film. I was happy to see that Ninn had decided to go with widescreen. There are some phenomenal visuals and some classic Ninn sex scenes, but there are also some scenes that are way too short and unfocused. The cast is populated by a ton of veterans and rising stars, unfortunately we don't get to spend enough time with everyone. As many of Michael's critics often point out, he has a tendency to go for style over substance. While often I think his style enhances the substance of his sex scenes, I have to admit that his critics have a point at times throughout this film. [read the full review]

Imagine gorgeous photography, high production values, a good-looking cast, and dull, slow motion sex set to a bland, ever-present music soundtrack, and you have a good idea of what's in store. "Fade to Blue" tries very hard to be a slick, glossy stab at "art", but does this at the expense of any real excitement in the sex scenes. It's a very pretty flick, really, but its looks can't make up for the fact that I was sorely disappointed with the action. There is a definite emphasis placed away from the sex, most of the sex is a bit impersonal. It is laboratory sex. This aspect plays right along with the plot however.
