Ninn used to be one of those directors who I could count on as one of my
favorites--an instant buy or a choice off the video shelf
without really looking at the boxcover. But ever since he left VCA to
direct for Private, and now more recently for his own label, Ninn Worx, I've
found his videos more of the hit or miss variety. Having enjoyed Ninn's
old VCA series Diva, I wanted to see how Ninn's evolved over a
half-decade with Fem Aria.
Fem Aria is a five-scene, girl-girl affair in Ninn's typical formula: very glossy vignettes with solo girl striptease and tame clit-rubbing masturbation, followed by a very male-fantasy take of a girl-girl scene. In the first scene, Shayla LeVeaux and Jenna Haze meet up in a desert junkyard for a few minutes of outdoor licking and finger-fucking. The setup and positions look like they came straight out of the pages of Hustler, and it's disappointing to see only Jenna getting off and such a quick video fade out from the orgasm. Scene two: Laurie Wallace and Tanya Daniel, both bleached blondes with big, fake tits, go at it in front of an indoor fountain while dressed in thigh-high stockings, high heels and black gloves. Somehow, that isn't the fantasy that comes to mind when a "Tuscany Villa" is mentioned as the setting. This one is more hardcore than the first scene, with the two introducing a small vibrator that's used for a few minutes. Next, a PVC-themed scene matches Wanda Curtis and Shay Sights (uggggghhhhh...what a frightening face) in an underground boiler room of sorts (a la Acid Dreams). After a very long introduction with them seducing each other in PVC dresses, each strips down to fetish undergarments and plays solo. The girl-girl portion is heavily oral focused (including 69), but is weakened by the absence of production sound (i.e. no moaning) and the M.I.A. orgasms. Wow, it certainly is refreshing to finally see two naturally breasted girls in the same scene, as is the case with the fourth scene with short haired blonde Michelle Michaels and veteran brunette Dru Berrymore. This nighttime, poolside fantasy is elegant, with both girls wearing long dresses--although they don't stay dressed for very long. After Dru licks Michelle's pussy for a bit, the girls move into the pool for some more oral and a nice standing position where Dru finger fucks and rubs Michelle at the same time. The biggest problem with this scene is that it's on the dark side despite the large floodlights illuminating the set--I've definitely seen brighter light outdoor, nighttime shots before. The final scene is the most interesting: shot at the same drive-in diner set as Ninn's Cashmere the tease segment is Star E. Knight and Ashton Moore having some wet and wild fun with a garden hose in front of a pink classic convertible. As the action moves inside, it's clear that this is the most explicit scene of the video. The fishnet-stockinged girls take turns eating each other out on the diner counter while more or less still in their full lingerie. Ashton also fucks Star E. with a big pink dildo with nice results. But yet again, the scene ends abruptly just as it starts to get really hot. :-( Fem Aria doesn't really break any new ground--it looks and feels like a more modern version of Ninn's Diva (see one of my early reviews, Diva Girls. Besides the use of the same overall format, Fem Aria also shares the same music-heavy soundtrack, masturbation style, overused editing effects, and the love-it-or-hate-it practice of the girls staring into the camera throughout the scene. It's like a Playboy centerfold video...the girls change, the sets change, but the look, feel, and format are identical from volume to volume. The best way I can describe the overall experience is that it's both distant (no intimacy between the performers) and artificial (few orgasms, little variety in sex acts). Finally, I really could do without the all of the fake tits--that instantly ruins the fantasy for me. I can't really recommend this title--not because it doesn't have good production value, but because it comes across more as a striptease act crossed with a Playboy video. I prefer girl-girl that's either more explicit or less artificial, so while I don't mind Ninn's visual style, I don't care for the mostly lipstick lesbianism and exaggerated performances for the camera. On the other hand, if you're at home in a strip club, you probably won't have any beef with Fem Aria. You decide...
