Initial Expectations: I’ve heard great things about this one, and the female cast only raises my expectations higher.

Initial Reaction: It’s very well done, very artistic, and very beautiful, but I’m not really sure how much I like it.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody who wants artistic vision, a plot, and a bit of nastier sex

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who doesn’t like artistic sex or who wants sex sounds with their sex

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very clear and very well balanced, although it’s extremely rare for there to be any actual sex sounds during the sex scenes. Perfect is shot on film, which means there’s a little more grain than normal. Thankfully, Michael Ninn and Private has the resources to treat it right. It nicely mixes color and black and white footage, and is shot in the widescreen format. Unfortunately, however, it’s presented in non-anamorphic widescreen rather than anamorphic. The widescreen format also seems to take more away than add things, as parts of heads are often cut off and other views seem like they weren’t set up quite right. The lighting is extremely well done, and every shadow feels as if it belongs.

Music: The music has a kind of techno - new age feel to it. It fits the artistic feel of the movie extremely well and is normally the only audio in the sex scenes.

Menus: The menus are nicely animated and stick with the artistic feel of the feature. The main menu has some decent animation and the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each chapter.

The Feature: In the future, governments (especially the United States) as we know it have risen and fallen. In one of the past governments, science evolved to the point that androids, or mechas as they’re called here, were almost indistinguishable from human and were used to pleasure humans. In the current right wing administration, however, they’re immoral and hunted down, just like porn fans. Nick Manning has hunted down and terminated three of the four mechas that were still known to exist, and is now partnered with Jodie Moore as he tries to find the last remaining mecha.

Monica Mayhem starts things out giving Dale DaBone a bit of head and some great eyes. He returns her oral favor before letting her ride him and fucking her from behind. Finally, Monica finishes things up taking a decent facial. It’s a pretty good scene, but Monica seems to put in at least ninety percent of the energy here. I guess it fits the scene well, but it also leaves me a bit cold.

Nick Manning is taken care of by Julia Ann, Fujiko Kano, and Sabrine Maui in the second scene. Nick is worked on by the group first, followed by Julia Ann, before things change to Nikita Denise. Nikita shows off for the camera and warms herself up before replacing the other girls with Nick, and puts her oral skills to work in taking Nick down her throat. She lets Nick work on her pussy and plays with her ass to get it ready for him too. Nikita goes for a little reverse cowgirl anal while Nick plays with her pussy before finishing things up with a nice facial, at which point things return to Julia and the girls. It’s an odd edit, but doesn’t work too bad here. It definitely has an artistic feel, but the chemistry between Nikita and Nick and Julia Ann and Nick is hot enough that I didn’t mind it that much. Things are also explained pretty well at the end of the scene with a little plot which makes things even better.

Wendy Divine gives some great head to real life hubby Eric Masterson while Shay Sights watches and takes care of herself with a dildo to start out the next string of scenes. She takes a decent pop on her face and tits before things move to Kelly and Hamilton Steele on a couch and Kristal Summers and Pier in a corner. Kelly and Hamilton fuck for most of their scene, while Kristal puts her oral skills to work on Pier, but both end with facials. Finally, Brooke Hunter and real life hubby Don Hollywood get busy while Dru Berrymoore watches and diddles herself next. Brooke gets eaten, and there’s no pop shot here.

The tantalizing Tina Tyler and icewoman Jodie Moore get together for the next scene. After quite a bit of nipple licking, Tina gets down to business and goes down on Jodie. They finally finish things up with some nice kissing. It’s a bit long and overly pretty, but with women this beautiful, I can handle it being a little long.

Jodie Moore takes on both heaven and Hell next, as she opens herself up to both a devil (Art Core) and what looks like a cross between a Marilyn Manson wannabe and Christ (which is actually a very well made up Tyce Bune). She starts out sandwiched between then for some oral warmups before getting fucked by the devil (no pun intended). She gives her ass to Jesus before letting herself be filled by both of them and finishing things with an impressive double facial. It’s a darn hot scene with more than a little art mixed into things. Unlike many artistic scenes, however, the art actually adds to the heat here.

Mia Smiles and Kiwi get busy on Jodie Moore next, while Layla Jade and Flick Shagwell go to work on Tyce Bune (who I wouldn’t have recognized if not for his tattoo). The toys come out for both Jodie and Flick, but all Tyce gets is some oral action. They’re both nice scenes, and work together much nicer than two scenes normally do, but both seemed a little limited. I’ll chalk my disappointment into wanting to see Mia get a lot more lesbian action and wanting Flick and Layla to both get some good boning and a little nastier action. At least each of the ladies put on a nice little masturbation show a little later.

Finally, Jodie Moore and Nick Manning make love on the beach. After nicely exchanging oral favors, Nick pounds her pussy from behind, lets her ride him reverse cowgirl style, and fucks her against the rocks on the beach. Finally, he drops his bomb in front of her face. It’s a pretty good scene, but its loving feel was really hurt by the lack of any actual sex sounds for me.

Perfect isn’t quite that, but it is darn good and one of the most artistic movies I’ve seen in quite a while. Michael Ninn works his artistic vision throughout the entire movie, starting with the first visual of the movie, and moving it through every sex and non-sex scene until the final credits role. It provides the soul of the movie, and whether you like Ninn’s style or not will probably determine whether or not you’ll like the movie. There’s a lot of symbolism and more than a few messages that appear throughout the movie, and I can’t say that they didn’t interfere at all as I watched. Some of it I liked, and some of it just seemed a little too preachy for me. Maybe it’s because I’m one of the few conservatives in the adult world, but I’m more than a little turned off when all the totalitarian futures are blamed on the right wing (maybe I’m remembering my history wrong, but I don’t think Stalin was either right wing or a porn fan). The plot also seemed to get a little muddy and lost amongst all the art direction and symbolism.

But most people won’t care about that. Those people want to know about the sex, and it’s something I’m really torn on. Most of the movie reminded me of Andrew Blake’s style. It’s all beautiful, looking just like it stepped out of a high class magazine layout and into the world, but much of it appeared rather devoid of emotion. I think a lot of this was due to there not being any actual sex sounds in the scenes, which always brings things down a couple notches for me. For many though, I’m sure this won’t matter.

In the end, Perfect was a beautiful and interesting movie, but it just didn’t make it round all the bases for me.

Extras: The only extra on the first DVD is a bonus scene with Jodie Moore. She appears in a white virginal dress with plenty of lace on the bottom and plenty of fur on the top. She teases and plays to the camera throughout it all almost as if it’s a moving photo shoot. She moves on to a darker side as well, decked out in shades, black gloves, and black fuck me boots and plays with a black dildo a little. It’s all pretty enough, but didn’t really get my blood flowing too much. Once again, it seemed very reminiscent of Andrew Blake’s style.

The second DVD contains almost all of the extras, including behind the scenes featurettes, photo galleries, and the musical score. Five photo galleries are included, one for behind the scenes, two for pretty girls (modeling), and two for sex. The behind the scenes gallery lasts about a minute and three quarters, and the Pretty girls last about seven and a half minutes total, and the sex lasts about six minutes. The galleries include both full screen photos and snapshots, and all look excellent.

The location feature is basically the behind the scenes feature. It’s broken into three locations, and each location has a few chapters. There’s plenty of interviews with the cast throughout the feature, as well as capturing some of what’s going on around the set and the scenes being filmed. There’s also a lot of attention given to the special effects, which helps it to become a nicely balanced behind the scenes feature. All told, the locations feature lasts about an hour and a half, and should interest anybody who really enjoyed the feature.

The making of extra mostly focuses on Jodie Moore’s scene between the devil and the Christ characters. It lasts about fifteen minutes, and shows some of the makeup process both to put the mask on and take it off, as well as filming the scene itself. It’s an interesting featurette, and the devil has more than a little fun with the process.

Finally, the photo shoot extra lasts about twelve minutes. It’s your typical featurette of this style, and shows the girls posing for their photo shoots. It’s a nice featurette that gives you another chance to look at a few of the girls, but nothing special beyond that.

Overall: Currently, Perfect can be found online for between $18 and $30 with most stores offering it for around $23. This is more than fair for what you get here. The movie is much longer than most features, and beautifully shot on film. There’s also plenty of extras. Check this one out if you’re interested!

Note to Private / Michael Ninn: It’s great to see you supporting the widescreen format, but in the future, please take your support all the way to anamorphic widescreen.
