Review brief: Metro's ULTIMATE EROTIC FANTASY is simply a compilation of scenes from Ultimate's line of films, directed by Andrew Blake doppelganger Cameron Grant. There is no doubt that each and every scene on this disc is well-photographed, imaginative, and absolutely hot as hell when it comes to sex, but this is to be expected when you consider the source material. The overall presentation, however, is somewhat lacking and greatly undermines the superb content. The DVD "boxcover" looks pretty generic when it comes to beauty and design. In fact, the model posing next to the car on the packaging is not one I readily recognize (although I am guessing that it's Jenteal), and seems to be taken from another video not directed by Grant. Furthermore, not all the stills found on the back of the DVD cover (or incorporated in the photo gallery) are from scenes in this feature, although they are clearly taken from other works by the director.

Review brief: Although I am far less of a Jenna Jameson fan than the general porn public (my tastes lean towards women like Inari Vachs, Leena, Vicca, Ginger Lynn and Rebecca Lords), I can't deny that she has a lot of appeal, both visually and sexually. I originally purchased UP AND CUMMERS Number 10 on the strength of Jenna's slow and steady, but white hot scene with Kylie Ireland, where their tag-team encounter with Randy West was just to good to pass-up. Now, Jenna flies solo in a straight scene with Mr. West, prefaced by a photo session posing sequence which has a lot of tease and plenty of build up to the main action. Needless to say, Jenna truly shows herself to be a magnetic and sexy performer and I've finally come to understand what all her hype is about. When she is treated to extended pussy eating, she actually seems to enjoy it, and remains playful and fun- loving throughout her scene. She is one of the few actresses who kisses deeply and with passion, as opposed to just simple flicks of the tongue like too many other porn women.

Review brief: Who can resist Stacy Valentine? Blonde, dangerously curvy, fresh-faced and cute as hell, this babe is a wet dream (and well-fed) Barbie doll come to life, which is not unusual in porn, but Stacy definitely has a charm which will work on even the most ardent brunette fans (such as myself). Although when it comes to fair-haired girls, women like Ginger Lynn, Juli Ashton and Shayla LaVeux float my boat moreso than the common bleached blonde sex dolls, but Ms. Valentine is simply irresistable to me. She gives blowjobs with a rhythmic, sensuous passion and looks just plain sexy while getting fucked. Well, as it turns out, she is really the only redeeming feature in Adam & Eve's THRUST, yet another strictly plain vanilla, straightforward porn movie shot several years ago, which is only average at best. The plot (more like a theme, actually) involves sex within a military setting, so you get lines like "Drop your bombs all over my face..." which will have you rolling your eyes instead of indulging in other physical activities.

Review brief: HABITS OF THE HEART is a straightforward, five scene, no frills porn video which is absolutely average in terms of both content and value. Porn superstar STACY VALENTINE, popularly known from her acclaimed interactive disc from VCA called CHASING STACY, appears in three of the sex scenes on the disc, and is prominently displayed on the cover jacket. Obviously, this video is meant to appeal to her hardcore fans, allowing them to view some "older" [as in age of the videos, where she is obviously younger] Stacy appearances before she became a VCA contract girl. The one really big advantage to getting DVDs of her earlier work is that there are usually no condoms intruding in on the action, and sometimes, a healthy oral/facial is always a possibility. Although I enjoy watching the very curvy, blonde, blue-eyed Stacy in action, I was far more interested in seeing gorgeous Raylene and the legendary Aja in action.

Review brief: Most "How to..." sex videos are nothing more than a flimsy excuse to show some hardcore sex scenes with a little bit of commentary so as to avoid the "porn" categorization. This is not to say that such videos can't be informative, but obvious discussions on the art of lovemaking are usually peppered with obvious suggestions like, "Take your time. Be sensitive to your partner's needs. Enjoy the experience..." (Well, duh!). So, after noting the title of this feature, I braced myself for a methodically boring instructional video of sorts, with some graphic but sterilized scenes of oral sex. In other words, I thought I would be bored to death. However, the legendary Nina Hartley makes this video enjoyable, and yes, educational as well.

Review brief: Shortly after reviewing MASQUERADE for Adult DVD Talk, I had the opportunity to take a gander at THE OBSESSION OF LAURE, a Wicked Pictures DVD from Marc Dorvel Video and starring gorgeous featured actress Laure Sinclair. Well, immediately after glancing at the cast listing of OBSESSION, I was almost convinced that this movie would top MASQUERADE, due to my overwheming partiality to Vicca (now a VCA contract girl) and Anita Blonde who performs in three of thirteen (!) scenes in this video. Well, after comparing my, umm..."reactions" to both films, I don't think that OBSESSION is overall as good as MASQUERADE, but then again, I saw MASQUERADE first so my expectations were already at an Olympian level. Still, THE OBSESSION OF LAURE was enough to convince me that the entire Laure Sinclair vehicles from Marc Dorcel were worth collecting, and Wicked's collection of European imports definitely give the Private line a run for their money.

Review brief: A mid-1990s production, TROUBLE is a foreign made video starring Vivid Girl and former Seymore Butt's sex toy Taylor Hayes. Although Stephen St. Croix also appears, both have their lines dubbed in English, which kind of reminds me of those classic Godzilla movies where non- Japanese actors had distinctly overdubbed voices. In any event, TROUBLE (not to be confused with the Tori Welles minor classic from Caballero Video) is a very hot, sexy video thanks entirely to Taylor's heated performances. Raven- haired, thin, with a cute over-bite and always smiling attitude, Taylor gives every scene her sexual-all, as she seems determined to arouse even the most jaded viewer with a white-hot performance...naturally, she succeeds. Taylor appears in three of five scenes including a straight threesome with cute Eurobabe Monica and the always reliable Steven St. Croix, a fantastic foursome, a straight scene with some lucky bastard, and finally another threesome to end the movie. Needless to say, she absolutely burns in each one of them.

Review brief: After giving top notch reviews to European films like THE FUGITIVE, SEX SLIDERS, CALL GIRLS and other Private releases, I thought that I had already made up my mind as to what were some of the very best DVDs I had seen for the past year. It's not that I am at all partial ot European videos (in fact, some of their most extreme stuff kind of nauseates me), or even favor European women, but I have yet to be dissapointed with anything produced from Private, unlike a great many American releases, most of which are just mediocre, uninspired junk. However, Europorn can get dull sometimes: on-screen sex is performed so proficiently that it almost becomes an emotionless experience.

Review brief: NIGHT TRIPS 2 is the sequel to the ground- breaking and break-through work from director Andrew Blake. Starring the incredible Tori Welles, NIGHT TRIPS featured beautiful women in highly-charged performances filmed gorgeously against a backdrop of dreamy, fantasy sequences. Although NIGHT TRIPS 2 was seen as the lesser sequel of the original, this movie remains one of my all time favorite pieces of erotica, due largely to the presence of star Paula Price and the beautiful Lauren Hall. Although this film merely continues the novelty of a very horny woman being studied for her very vivid wet dreams (via a monitor which displays her subconsious fantasies), NIGHT TRIPS 2 features an all-star cast and some of the best sex scenes I have ever witnessed.

When it comes to porno, the sexual envelope is constantly pushed to bring jaded viewers different visuals in which to enjoy the experience. Naturally, more "unusual" types of sexual behavior are subject to local laws and community standards, but as far as I know, there have been no limitations as to how the male orgasm can be shown before the camera. Certainly, titles like DOWN THE HATCH, or A CUM SUCKING WHORE NAMED..., and of course I SWALLOW are centered on the art of swallowing, so the subject matter says it all; if you are content with money shots which land on a girl's face, chest or butt, then these movies may be bit extreme.

Houston and Jasmin St. Clair, then you are in for a treat. Review brief: Right from the start, let me say that CASHMERE is a great-looking movie and ana amazing production from VCA. This video directed by the one and only Michael Ninn occasionally goes overboard with the digital effects used throughout the various sex scenes, but unlike his previous efforts like SHOCK, LATEX and the highly disappointing NEW WAVE HOOKERS, they never distract or get in the way of the eroticism (his best work, DECADENCE and DIVA I through III have yet ato appear on DVD. However, I do have a aesthetic complaint about this film, which unfortunately cannot be helped due to the visual setting and theme of this movie. The powder white bouffant wigs which are placed on the head of every girl gets to be a bit much, and makes most of the girls lookalike. Costumes in adult movie are okay, but I prefer spiked high heels and stripper outfits and Victoria's Secret lingerie over period fashion designs any day. In any event, this early DVD release merely represent standard VCA excellence.

Review brief: Peter North's NORTH POLE series have gotten some mixed reviews among different adult circles throughout the world wide web. After reviewing volume number seven of this series, I am at a loss as to understanding why anybody would complain. This all-sex series takes a straightforward approach to its sex scenes, so those looking for a plot or theme would be better off with the latest VCA releases than with the simple set-ups presented here. Naturally, this series is named after The Porn Star Formerly Known as Matt Ramsey, who is also well-known for his prodigious resultant orgasms, which give new meaning to the term "pop-shot." Peter North has been in the business for nearly twenty years, and he is as recognizable as most of the industry's sex starlets when it comes to popularity. In my naivete, I always believed that he derived his name from the Peter Brady character, with whom he shares a somewhat close resemblance [don't laugh, I said "somewhat!"]. It wasn't until years later that I finally understood the meaning of his name.

Review brief: Directed by Stuart Canterbury, SIRENS really cannot be described as a classic by any means, despite its VCA Classics description. With the (unfortunate) exceptions of Ron Jeremy and former gay actor Eric Price, none of the starlets in this shot-on- video feature are active in the porn industry today. And for porno newbies currently raised on a diet of SODOMANIA and GANGBANG GIRL videos, there may be very little reason to watch, let alone purchase, this rather straightforward, simple early 1990s release. However, for the old-timers like myself who recall when porn attempted to incorporate a story in their movies, and when gynecological close-ups of dilated sphincters were less than common- place, a viewing of SIRENS is almost refreshingly quaint. It also helps a great deal that this video features one of VCA's best former contract stars, namely the hard-bodied and devlishly sexy Selena Steele.

Review brief: "Vortex" directed by veteran filmmaker Jim Enright is yet another fine release from VCA, a company which is known for their technically superior DVDs as well as for hot sex. Starring contract stars Juli Ashton, Vicca and Nikita, as well as Nici Sterling and Melanie Stone, "Vortex" employs the same digital special effects and background setting used (and sometimes over-used) in classics like Michael Ninn's "Sex" and "Latex" but they do not distract from fuck and suck scenes (which are, after all, the raison d' etre of porn).The DVD cover art has a simply stunning picture of Juli Ashton, decked out in a skin-tight silver outfit in a quasi-martial arts-action pose. Since attractive packaging is one of the single biggest factors in the sales or rental of a porn video, kudos must go to whoever artfully composed this shot, which manages to show off Juli's fantastic body (yet barely shows any skin!) and conveys the movie's science fiction motif about time travel.

Review brief: Hot off the heels of "Virtual Sex with Tera Patrick," this Amerasian super-starlet is spotlighted in yet another interactive, first-person video called, appropriately enough, "My Plaything." Let me state from the start that after being very disappointed in the over-hyped and over-praised "Virtual Sex" edition, I was pretty much expecting more of the same, or rather less of the same. Shot against a dark, sterile background --- as if we were on location in some condemned building with plastic garbage bags lining the walls --- "Virtual Sex with Tera Patrick" was, to me, a decidedly un-erotic, dank looking video with dreadfully phony cumshots from a prosthetic penis. Despite the star of the show looking sexy as ever, there was something cheap about the deliberately sparse setting, which made the "experience" rather depressing than exciting. Moreover, the on-screen menus had some of the ugliest graphics I had ever seen, which greatly detracted from the viewing experience (true, they were removable, but it made toggling the controls all the more difficult).

Review brief: Directed by the infamous Dark Bros., "The Devil In Miss Jones 3 and 4" were critically-acclaimed classic sequels to the original ground-breaking porno which even reknowned radio personality (I hesitate to call him a journalist) Larry King proclaimed as one of his favorite films (I am not making this up!). Despite the dated look of most of the porno stars, and pre-CGI set designs and special effects, these two films still have a daring and surreal look to them. The sex, however, is not as heated as some of the Dark Bros better efforts, like the the Traci Lords-edited "New Wave Hookers" which preceded this work.

Review brief: With films like "Dark Garden" and "Bliss" showing up on DVD, complete with director's commentaries and "making of featurettes," VCA has done a commendable job releasing high profile prestige projects in today's porn market. Directors like Antonio Passolini and Michael Ninn are among the very few filmmakers who actually employ mood and atmosphere as a backdrop for good old athletic sucking and fucking, and the results are exceptional, solid erotic films as opposed to assembly-line porn vids.However, the formulaic, shot-on-videotape pornos which were so prevalent in the late eighties and nineties can often be equally arousing, despite their cheesy looks or cliched plots; it just all depends on a competent director, and hot performers. BRIDE ON THE RUN, a recent VCA release, fits that exact bill. Directed by veteran pornographer Fred Lincoln, this movie is a formulaic, unpretentious video which I found surprisingly satisfying and even refreshing.

Review brief: Directed by Michael Ninn, DARK GARDEN features an all-star line-up of VCA's hottest contract girls, and has already received much in the way of acclaim and attention. After seeing it twice already, I can honestly say that all the praise heaped on this stylishly-directed, hot little epic is well-deserved. However, I must point out that consistent with VCA's policy, condoms are used throughout, and I will admit up front that I have a prejudice against seeing them in adult films. Of course I understand the health and safety reasons for condom use, and certainly, I feel that safe sex is important. But for me, their presence ruins the fantasy of adult movie, and it warns me ahead of time that there will be no oral money shot at the end of any given encounter. Fortunately, some videos rise above the neutering effect condoms have [pun intended] and DARK GARDEN is one such film.Director Ninn sets his story in a 1940s film noir setting, with Vicca playing the mysterious widow who seeks the hard-boiled detective for help.

Review brief: Porn Historian Jim Holliday attaches his name to yet another all-star, wall-to-wall sex release from VCA in the heavily-promoted "Perfect Smiles" DVD. When it comes to his videos, you definitely get your bang for the buck with a roster of current adult superstars and quality production. This DVD is loaded with supplementary material including a "Behind The Scenes" featurette, interviews, and other extras, all of which are a nice and thoughtful touch. Featuring top talent like Tiffany Mynx, Jill Kelly, Shayla LaVeux, Felicia and many up and comers, there is no doubt that Jim Holliday and VCA do not cheat on giving the consumer what they want on a little silver platter. However, as the old adage goes, quantity does not mean quality. The problem with this feature is that Jim Holliday directs it with almost no imagination whatsoever. The sex scenes are straightforward, well-shot and well-composed, but boring.

Review brief: Directed by Alex De Renzy, "Pretty Peaches 3" garnered much in the way of critical and popular acclaim when it was first released back in 1989. Now, over a decade later, the video holds up only middlingly well despite it's "classic' status. I am not at all sure if today's "XXX-Generation" (those who maintain a steady diet of Max Hardcore and Sodomania) videos will have the patience for it. Shot on film, the DVD is much sharper and has better colors than its original VHS incarnation. For an old-timer like me, it was great to see actresses like Rachel Ryan, Victoria Paris, Tianna and Keisha back in action, although their best work has yet to hit DVD.The movie follows Keisha "on a quest for spritual enlightenment," but her encounters are more physical than anything else. Despite the fashion period of that time, Keisha looks great in just about every scene she's in. However, for whatever reason, Director De Renzy has chosen to mute her sexual performance and the results are disappointing.
