Defiance

Review brief: Defiance (or Defiance of Good) is a dark, relatively unknown, horror-tinged movie from 1974. The central character is Cathy (Jean Jennings), a teenage girl who, after being discovered with drugs, is sent by her parents for psychiatric observation. However, the hospital she attends is a hellhole where she is harassed and raped by her fellow inmates so, when the opportunity to move to another clinic presents itself, she jumps at it. Unfortunately she soon comes to realise that her new doctor, played by a very hirsute Fred Lincoln, is actually closer to a brutal cult leader than a traditional medical practitioner. The film has quite a dark tone and (arguably) some philosophical under-currents but its neither as shocking as Through The Looking Glass or as thought-provoking as The Devil In Miss Jones. Defiance covers some rich narrative ground - bringing to mind One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, The Story of O and the Manson Family but never quite manages to be as interesting as it should be. There are a couple of nice directorial flourishes but somehow its all rather pedestrian.

Review brief: The Scottish Loveknot Directed by Gazzman Overall Impression A solid debut effort from Private's new director Gazzman. Although I generally watch my porn for the quality of sex it displays not the level of storytelling, I did appreciate Gazzman's efforts in the story department. Loveknot does make for an interesting myth and the woman they got to do the narration was wonderfull. I was also very pleased to see that Gazzman chose to go with the widescreen format something I hope to see more porn directors embrace. However on the sex side of the equation I was a bit dissapointed. The two scenes with Jodie Moore are excellent but the rest of the sex fell a little flat. Personally I felt it was a bit of a sub par cast when compared to Private's normal array of Euro hotties. Plot "Robert Mhor was a great warrior, but Scottish legend has it that he was also a great lover. After every battle he would take the defeated armys women, so that they would never again feel pleasure with any other man. However, Robert was in love with only one woman - the Lady of the Loch.

Review brief: An excellent review has already been written by astroknight regarding the "plot" of this movie. But let's be honest here...we aren't renting these for their scintillating plots. Read his entry if you're curious about the story-line, I'm just here to comment on the sizzle-factor. Good points: Decent video quality, buff n'hung guys instead of the usual fish-bellied fatties, two very hot brunettes (Jezebelle Bond and Aria) who make it worthwhile to sit through. Bad points: HORRIBLE audio, so bad that we had to crank up the volume full-bore just to barely make out what the actors were saying, and then the music came on and blasted us out - you get the idea. Volume up and down, but mostly down so low you can't hear what is going on. So we settled for eye-candy instead. Opening scenes with Chris Cannon and tiny-titted April were disappointingly bland. Their lackluster screw in a real barn (with real flies buzzing around them) was a turn-off to me. Fortunately the film redeemed itself somewhat with an extremely hot scene between Aria and Lee Stone atop a limo hood.

Review brief: Drew Allen has been through Max's demanding program a few times before, and although she appears in some distress while licking a flaming banana on the boxcover, I am happy to report she survives Max's twisted shenanigans with her sense of humor seemingly intact. Drew was much thinner in her previous porn incarnation and Max urges her to lose the excess poundage with some deep throat fist pounding. Review brief: It just depends on how you watch porn. If you watch it with a vengeance, narrative just gets in the way. If youre more inclined to sit back and let the movie do some of the work, even the stupidest storylines can make a difference, simply by humanizing the actors. Adam & Eves Bare Necessities doesnt have much of a story, and what it does have is typically inane, but the performers seem to like it, and it shows in the sex scenes, most of which are pleasant and energetic. The movie begins with an almost girl/girl encounter as Keri Windsor, who runs a lingerie shop out of her home, offers advice and opinion to Chenin Blanc. That the scene never really takes a sexual turn was not a move calculated to appeal to girl/girl fans such as myself, but what the hellI was still trying to figure out how Keri managed to make a buck by selling baby dolls out of her house. The answer, I think, comes when lovers Nikita Cash and Ian Daniels show up.

Review brief: Defiance (or Defiance of Good) is a dark, relatively unknown, horror-tinged movie from 1974. The central character is Cathy (Jean Jennings), a teenage girl who, after being discovered with drugs, is sent by her parents for psychiatric observation. However, the hospital she attends is a hellhole where she is harassed and raped by her fellow inmates so, when the opportunity to move to another clinic presents itself, she jumps at it. Unfortunately she soon comes to realise that her new doctor, played by a very hirsute Fred Lincoln, is actually closer to a brutal cult leader than a traditional medical practitioner. The film has quite a dark tone and (arguably) some philosophical under-currents but its neither as shocking as Through The Looking Glass or as thought-provoking as The Devil In Miss Jones. Defiance covers some rich narrative ground - bringing to mind One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, The Story of O and the Manson Family but never quite manages to be as interesting as it should be. There are a couple of nice directorial flourishes but somehow its all rather pedestrian.
