Initial Reaction: Well, thats an hour and a half I wont get back. Who Should Watch It : Anybody whos trying to justify spending money on better porn and trying to remember why cheap porn is cheap Who Should Avoid It: Anybody looking for very well done sex Audio /Video Quality: The audio is fairly clear, but at times feels like somebody didnt know how to record it. Theres a crackling sound like the audio is being maxed out near the beginning, thats very noticeable. The audio is also slightly off balance much of the time. The video is pretty average, but seems like it often wants to be both close and far away at the same time.

Ultimate Firsts is an Adam & Eve compilation of various female performers first scenes. While I think this is a good potentially great concept, its execution suffers from a few problems. Firstly, as one would expect for some of the stars listed above, the source material of their first scenes is extremely old, which results in variable, mostly poor A/V aspects. The scenes in the latter half of the compilation are slightly better but the overall A/V quality is below average at best. Most of the scenes are couples-oriented and use condoms, neither of which are problematic as far as Im concerned. However, one thing that really bugged me was the immense amount of slow-motion in virtually every scene it seemed. It may be the case that all of those scenes had that much slow-motion, but I find that difficult to believe.

Audio/visual quality: The raw footage has been extensively processed to include jump edits, color shifts, blurs, enhanced motion, strobing and lots of other interesting effects. Horizontal masks at the top and bottom of the video give it a widescreen appearance. The pacing is best described as frenetic. The camera's shadow does occasionally fall on the performers' bodies, but with so much on-screen activity, it's a flaw that's easily overlooked.

Review brief: This film is a historical curiosity in that it is one of the first (if not THE first) gay porn films to stress safe sex. The A.I.D.S. epidemic was at its most terrifying, and the producers of this film wanted to show its audience that sex could be fun while safe. Well, its certainly safe, these guys wont even suck a cock unless its sealed up tight in an opaque condom. But its not much fun. The plot concerns two wrestling buddies who do an awful lot of crotch grabbing in their matches, and they sleep in the same bed but have never recognized the sexual nature of their relationship. High school is over and Gary (Pat Allen) is going into the army while Hal (William L. Kane) is going to grad school. They keep in touch through letters. One day in the gym, Hal gets Jon King to spot him. Jon shows Hal his cock and proceeds to kiss him while fucking him between the legs (frigging, I think English public schoolboys call it.). In fact, when I saw the box cover I didnt even realise it was a Vivid film. The studio has also implemented other presentational changes. One thing that struck me right away were the revitalised extras, which still arent anything spectacular (decent photo gallery, too few trailers, unrelated sex scenes, extra cast clips as well as a Vivid Girl facials segment) but are welcome relief to the previous arrangement. Hopefully Vivid are taking consumer input onboard. The sex in the film also seemed slightly harder than in past Vivid features. Im not sure if that increases or decreases couples appeal, but Raven has a marginally less vanilla flavour than I expected. Also worth noting is that the scenes arent disrupted by the new angle indicator, which has shrunk considerably and appears only briefly.

One thing that struck me right away were the revitalised extras, which still arent anything spectacular (decent photo gallery, too few trailers, unrelated sex scenes, extra cast clips as well as a Vivid Girl facials segment) but are welcome relief to the previous arrangement. Hopefully Vivid are taking consumer input onboard. The sex in the film also seemed slightly harder than in past Vivid features. Im not sure if that increases or decreases couples appeal, but Raven has a marginally less vanilla flavour than I expected. Also worth noting is that the scenes arent disrupted by the new angle indicator, which has shrunk considerably and appears only briefly.
