Initial Expectations: I’ve heard great things about this feature, so I have very high expectations for it.

Initial Reaction: It’s not perfect, but it’s close enough that however long until the sequel comes out is too long.

Who Should Watch It : Anybody looking for a porno with a well done plot as well as sex that’s hot but doesn’t get too nasty

Who Should Avoid It: Anybody who thinks couples sex and movies should be boring.

Audio /Video Quality: The audio is very clear and well balanced. There are a couple very quiet noises in the background during the outdoor scenes, but they’re things like birds that sound like they belong and actually add to the overall audio rather than detract from it. There are a couple very short moments when it looks like the audio might have been dubbed, but they’re short enough that I’m not really sure if they were or not. The video is much the same way. It’s very clear and barely has a shadow that doesn’t belong. The only thing close to a problem is an occasional extremely thin line across the bottom of the screen that flashes a little.

Music: Unlike most adult films, Blue Angel doesn’t have music throughout the sex scenes. What music there is balances extremely well with the rest of the audio, and normally has almost a mainstream movie feel to it.

Menus: The main menu is simple, yet very impressive. It’s nicely animated, has great music, and actually had me sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation for the movie. The chapter menus are nicely done, and let you select a scene by a scene number and a small clip of the scene. Upon selecting a scene, you’re given a second menu where you can choose which sex act in the scene you want to jump to. It’s a very nicely done menu, but I really wish they would have included the performer names in it as well.

The Feature: Forest Gump once claimed that life’s like a box of chocolates since you never know what you’re going to get. When mobster Steven St. Croix gets whacked, he finds out death is much the same way. He’s made a guardian angel and teamed with Herschel Savage, who he whacked himself, and told that he’s on probation and can earn himself a ticket to either Heaven or Hell.

Monique DeMoan starts out busting Steven St. Croix’s balls on if his dick is as big as his mouth to start off the opening scene. Steven lets Monique spread her legs so he can give her an oral warmup to get her natural juices going just in case they are the same size. Steven tongues both of Monique’s holes before having her mouth his manhood and then ride it reverse cowgirl style. Steven moves on to fuck both of Monique’s holes from behind, which Monique seems to get into more and more as the scene goes on. Steven finishes off Monique’s ass missionary style before spraying her down with his special alfredo. Throughout the entire scene, Steven talks about what a great job Monique is doing to her boyfriend (Don Fischer), who one of Steven’s goons (Johnny King) is holding a gun on a few feet away. It’s a very hot scene, and blends some very nice acting in with a bit of plot as well. Monique does a great job throughout the entire scene, staying in character and also putting some nice energy into the scene. It’s a great opening scene, and reminded me right away why I was looking forward to this feature so much.

After putting a hit on Steven St. Croix, Evan Stone tries hitting cute blonde Hannah Harper’s G-spot with his finger while tonguing her clit. He generously gives Hannah some obvious pleasure before trading places with her and having her suck his cock and balls. Hannah moves on to ride Evan’s baloney pony, and takes a long ride before rolling over for some missionary work. Hannah finally jerks Evan off and licks off his cock. Throughout the entire scene, Evan’s kind of a jerk to Hannah, but it fits his character and doesn’t degrade her to the point that anybody should get turned off because of it. It still comes out as a fairly hot scene with decent chemistry and energy.

Nikita Denise gives Steven St. Croix a special reward for saving her from certain death after introducing him to her roommates, Chris Cannon and Joey Ray. She shows him her feline and then drops down to suck his schlong as Chris and Joey watch. Steven thanks her, but tells her that he’s not into crowds so she lets him watch as she takes on Chris and Joey. Nikita sucks Chris’ cock while Joey fingers, spanks, and licks her before Nikita turns around to suck Joey while Chris stretches her slit from behind. Nikita gives Joey one heck of a hummer, repeatedly taking him into her throat before hoping on to ride him cowgirl style. Joey doesn’t get Nikita to himself for long, however, as Chris pulls in behind to double penetrate her. The guys energetically pump Nikita, and she takes it all with the ease of a true pro before having the guys decorate her tits. It’s an extremely hot scene, and shows why Nikita is such a popular star.

After rescuing her from Steven’s attempted heroics, maid Kate Frost accepts a reward from her Mistress Aurora Snow. The girls gently work each other over with their tongue and fingers in the shower, with all the nice details showing up. There are things like lipstick smudges, smiles, and even girls smiling and looking like they really do enjoy the touch of another woman. Heck, there’s even a little water running in the shower that gets Kate and Aurora wet! There’s a little bit of the scene that seems slightly faked while Kate rides Aurora and both of the girls get nice and vocal, but for the most part this one hits on all the cylinders. My only complaint is the standard one, it ends feeling like there’s more to the scene. Unlike in most lesbian scenes where this happens, it feels like it’s being acknowledged here since it fades into the next scene rather than just cutting away. It’s a very hot scene that shows very well that with the right women, you don’t need any toys to make a hot scene.

Herschel Savage gets a little consoling from hotties Monica Mayhem and Kimi Lixx. The girls start out sharing Herschel orally, giving his nipples as well as his cock and balls some attention. The girls balance themselves very well between each other and Herschel’s parts so that neither of them ever seems greedy. Surprisingly, Monica doesn’t get any oral action herself before she starts riding Herschel’s cock, and since Herschel’s cock is occupied, Kimi rides Herschel’s tongue. Monica takes her turn in the center of the sandwich so she can taste Kimi’s twat while Herschel fucks her from behind, and then lets Kimi get in the middle. Herschel starts off fucking Kimi’s pussy, but soon moves back to fuck her real nice butt while Kimi does her best to give Monica a little oral loving. The girls finish Herschel off sharing a decent facial from him to end things. It’s a good scene, and looks like the cast is really into it, but the camera work and editing seemed a little off. I frequently found myself wishing for a slightly different camera angle, for the camera to move slightly, or some other minor change throughout much of the scene. This made this seem like the weakest scene in the movie, which I really hate to say since Kimi Lixx is one of my favorite performers and almost always enjoyable to watch.

Finally, Steven St. Croix gets a test ride from his new assistant Asia Carrera, which is intercut with the scene between Herschel, Kimi, and Monica. Steven lets his tongue get Asia’s ass and clit, as well as everywhere in between, and even teases her with his tongue a bit. Asia repays him with one of her amazing blowjobs, which still look like they’re about the best in the business before climbing on to ride Steven’s spitting snake. They continue on through missionary and doggie before Steven hoses down Asia’s back. It’s a great scene to end with, since both Asia and Steven seem like they’re having a great time. There’s great chemistry, great energy, and great heat.

Blue Angel was originally to be released by another company, but Simon Wolf Productions bought it back to be released under their own label. This seems like a no-brainer since once again, Simon Wolf and Bud Lee hit one out of the park. The plot and acting is as good or better than most movies, and the sex fits right in with it naturally rather than feeling forced into it like some adult films. This isn’t much of a surprise, since Simon Wolf’s features have been getting better with each release. Like most of Simon Wolf’s other features, it’s also part of a continuing storyline. The opening scene between Steven St. Croix and Monique DeMoan and the show scene between Aurora Snow and Kate Frost are the best out of the feature, but only the final group scene comes close to average. Blue Angel may only be the start of the story, but it’s one heck of a start!

Extras: The second DVD is devoted entirely to extras, which include many of the standard extras as well as quite a few others. Trailers are included for Love @ First Byte, Naughty Bedtime Stories, and Dripping Wet Sex 1. Two photo galleries are included. The production photo gallery includes twenty photos, and uses a thumbnail style format that shows you a glimpse of the photo and lets you blow it up to near full screen size. The movie preview gallery includes seven snapshots each from Naughty Bedtime Stories, Love @ First Byte, and Dripping Wet Sex 1.

Bios are included for Asia Carrera, Evan Stone, George Kaplan, Monica Mayhem, Kate Frost, Nikita Denise, and Chris Cannon. Rather than the standard bio, Simon Wolf includes interviews which last anywhere from four minutes up to sixteen minutes where the stars talk about how they got into the business, their first porno experience, some of their favorites, their hobbies, what they plan on doing after they stop acting in front of the camera, and quite a few other things. Kate Frost is really amazing in her interview, and even talks about becoming a massage therapist, which I guess an adult film career helped prepare her for.

The blooper reel lasts about three minutes. There’s flubbed lines, people screwing around for the camera, and a few sexual bloopers. It’s fairly short, but also a bunch of fun and worth checking out.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts about twenty five minutes, and starts out with a nice little introduction by Director Bud Lee. You get to see some of both the photo gallery and feature being shot, as well as Bud Lee working with the cast between shots. Of course, there’s also the cast screwing around while not in front of the camera, which with Evan Stone around, is guaranteed amusement. It’s a pretty decent behind the scenes featurette, and gives you plenty to watch of the scenes being made including a little of each scene.

The interview with Bud Lee lasts about nineteen minutes. He talks about the overall movie, working with the cast, and Simon Wolf and his features. He also talks about his favorite moments from the feature as well as some of the upcoming features from Simon Wolf. Bud puts quite a bit into the interview, and makes the interview a real joy to watch. There’s a lot of humor throughout the entire interview, and it comes off as possibly the best extra on the DVD.

Finally, there’s extended director’s cuts to two of the scenes. The scene between Evan Stone and Hannah Harper which runs about sixteen and a half minutes and the scene between Nikita Denise, Chris Cannon, and Joey Ray runs about thirteen minutes. In both cases it feels more like a re-editing of the scene than anything else. There were a couple spots where I noticed a couple details that were different, such as a bit of slow motion, but that’s about it. There’s no extra positions, actions, or people stopping in to borrow a cup of sugar when everybody’s done fucking. All in all, it’s an extra, but not one that really mattered to me.

Overall: Currently, Blue Angel can be found online for between $20 and $25 with stores offering it everywhere in between. Even the top end is a fair price for what you get here. The movie is very well done in both its sexual and non-sexual sequences, and has a great transfer and extras. There are a few minor problems here and there, but there’s so much here that’s done right that a person barely notices what’s slightly missing.

Note to Simon Wolf Productions: Great job here. It would be really nice if you could put the extended scenes on the same DVD as the main movie, and even better if you could give the viewer the option of watching the original feature or the feature with the extended scenes put in.
