Review brief: LA Plays Itself is a gay half all sex and half vignette adult film from Fred Halsted. LA Plays Itself makes for an interesting watch. There is little dialog and the first of the two parts in the film appears to be without a story. The second part, however, does contain a story even though it still has little dialog. The story is told through the images presented to the viewer. What both pieces put together means in totality is left for the viewer to decide on their own. LA Plays Itself is definitely worth a watch. Vinegar Syndrome's VOD release on Exploitation.TV of LA Plays Itself is a little rough around the edges with a well-worn print but perfectly watchable.

Review brief: The Bride's Initiation is, to say the least, an odd adult film. As an actual pornographic feature-style film, The Bride's Initiation is a failure. However, for viewers that are willing to toss logic, reasoning, eroticism, and trying to actually follow a plot, The Bride's Initiation is a fun journey to nowhere. Vinegar Syndrome has done a good job with their streaming version of The Bride's Initiation on Exploitation.TV. They offer a beautiful image with decent audio.

Review brief: Por Un Puñado de Polvos is advertised as the first Spanish adult western, however, in all honesty, the movie isn't very much of a western. There is a western story but it is marred by another storyline that the movie shifts to involving a transporting computer programmer that, honestly, just gets in the way of the western. The sex scenes, with the exception of one, are well done but poor CGI and other effects along with the convoluted non-western storyline get in the way of the movie. Overall, Por Un Puñado de Polvos isn't recommended. X Canal has done a decent job with their DVD-R release of the movie with good image and audio along with a nice featurette as an extra.

Review brief: Apocalypse of Vampires is the third movie, and final movie, in Ángel Mora's Vampira series. Quite frankly Apocalypse of Vampires is a movie that should never have been made. Yes, this reviewer knows that quite often that is the case with sequels and the like, however, apparently even Ángel Mora couldn't think of a reason that this movie actually should be made. He raided the vaults and used footage from the first two Vampira movies in this one along with some other assorted sex scenes that were shot for other projects. Most of the movie is spent rehashing the plot from Vampira and Vampira 2 - Abiertas hasta el amanecer. The scant amount of footage that was actually shot for this movie is poorly done and clearly inferior to the first two movies. There is absolutely no reason why anyone would want to see this movie. Review brief: Apocalypse X is one of Digital Playground's epic adult movies that a lot of care, thought, and money went into creating. Apocalypse X is visually appealing and the cast does a great job with their characters and with their sex scenes. The director, Jakodema, has done a great job of creating a post-apocalyptic world for the movie. The only shortcoming is the plot seems too rushed through. Despite this, Apocalypse X is still an excellent adult movie. Digital Playground has done a great job with their release with decent audio and beautiful video but has skimped on the extras.

Review brief: Hard in Love is a unique all-girl feature movie from John Stagliano. Hard in Love doesn't tell its story in a conventional way, however, as you watch the movie you do find that it does tell a story. The sex scenes are long, especially for a feature, and will not be for all viewers. They are definitely on the harder side. Hard in Love is a two part movie, so along with this volume, one must pick up Hard in Love 2 to complete the story. Evil Angel Video has done a good job with this two-disc release with nice image and audio quality and some nice extras.

Review brief: Devil's Ecstasy is truly a film upon itself. The film came out during the period where hardcore films were starting to rise and softcore films were steadily declining. Hardcore was not yet chic yet signs looked promising and the films produced tried to be more than just hardcore sex. Devil's Ecstasy likely started life as a softcore film that was changed to hardcore during the production. The film itself is a horror and adult hybrid, where the adult portion doesn't work so well but the horror portion is entertaining. VCX has done a good job with their bare bones release with good video quality and decent audio quality.

Hollywood Video has done a good job with their release with good video quality and decent audio but no extras.

Review brief: Ms. Grey 2: Darker is Dee Severe and Lily Cade's follow up to their 2015 AVN nominated feature Ms. Grey, both movies being based on the Fifty Shades of Grey series. Ms. Grey is a well-done BDSM feature that should please fans of the genre with the enjoyable story, good acting, camera work, and hot sex scenes. Severe Sex Films has done a good job with their two DVD release of Ms. Grey 2: Darker with nice image quality and decent, but slightly flawed, audio. The release has been loaded with extras as well.

Review brief: The Erotic Dr. Jekyll is one of the many adult films that has come out that plays on the novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Lewis Stevenson. Despite the source work being perfect for transformation into the adult film world, The Erotic Dr. Jekyll does a very poor job with the story and the sex scenes, to areas of vital importance for a feature-style adult film. As a result, The Erotic Dr. Jekyll is unlikely to appeal to many viewers. Video-X-Pix has done a good job with their DVD release of The Erotic Dr. Jekyll. The video looks nice but the audio has some issues. Video-X-Pix has heavily skimped on the extras.

The cast looks great and does a great job with both the sexual and non-sexual portions of the movie. All-in-all, Lana is a definite must see for fans of feature-style adult movies. Tushy has done a great job with their DVD release of Lana. The extras are lacking but the audio and video presentation are top-notch.

Review brief: Art Sluts is a movie from Tarantino XXX where he gets to showcase his love for the adult movies of the 1990s. Tarantino XXX has taken four shot on video adult movies from the 1990s and selected a scene from each one. Then he has reimagined that sex scene, changed some details, and then shot his version of the scene. The sex scenes in the movie are well done, however, the movie is heavily bogged down by unnecessary technical issues that detract from the movie considerably. As an end result, Art Sluts is a hard movie to recommend. Tarantino XXX has done a good job with their release of Art Sluts with good video but there are some issues with the audio.

Review brief: Porn Fiction, formerly titled Pulp Fiction XXX, is a jumble of sex scenes based on the Quentin Tarantino universe, not just Pulp Fiction, and non-sexual scenes that are ripped straight out of Tarantino's films usually line-for-line. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and given Tarantino XXX's current adult nom de plum, this reviewer does believe that Porn Fiction was made out of flattery and not just to rip-off the work of Quentin Tarantino. However, in the end, Porn Fiction ends up looking and feeling like a cheaply done pilfer of Tarantino's volume of work that never has a sense of cohesion. Tarantino XXX has provided good quality video for their release of Porn Fiction but the audio has some issues.

Review brief: Grindhouse XXX 2 claims to be a parody of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse and an unauthorized sequel to Andre Madness and David Lord's Grindhouse XXX from Adam & Eve. Sadly, Grindhouse XXX 2 doesn't live up to either mostly trying to spoof Grindhouse with a 51-minute spoof of the Machete trailer from Grindhouse called Machete XXX and a 49-minute all-sex spoof of Death Proof, called Fuck Proof, that is just a string of unconnected sex scenes. It has probably become clear at this point that Grindhouse XXX 2 suffers from huge plot issues, however, it also contains a multitude of technical issues. Some of the sex scenes aren't bad but they could have used some tighter editing. Tarantino XXX's release has some issues with what appears to be a low definition picture but good audio with no extras.

If you are a fan of the more bizarre comedic side of adult cinema, Gums is a must see. Unfortunately, Sinful Mermaid's release of Gums only brings us the softcore version of the film and offers a poor picture with good audio.

Review brief: Hollywood Confidential 2 is a cheaply and quickly made shot on video adult movie from the early 80s and the beginning of the video age of adult productions. The rather disposable movie features a nonsensical plot that allows the cast to hop from bed to bed throughout the movie. The production values are low making this an easy movie to pass on. Classic X Collection has done a really poor job with this release with poor audio and abysmal video quality on the release.
