The Movie

Tarantino XXX's Art Sluts is, to the best of this reviewer's knowledge, a new idea in the adult movie industry. If it isn't a new idea, it is certainly an idea that this reviewer hasn't run into before.

“The movie is what I like to describe as my love letter to porn from the 1990's,” said Tarantino XXX describing the movie.

Tarantino XXX has taken some of his favorite shot on video releases from the 1990s, which he has proclaimed a love for, and selected a scene from each one. Then he has reimagined the scene and shot his homage to these adult movies of yesteryear.

There are four covers of 90s adult movie scenes included within Art Sluts. The first scene in Art Sluts is based on the 1996 adult movie Suggestive Behavior. For readers familiar with Suggestive Behavior, the scene has been changed from a restaurant to a bar. In this scene, four people (Tarantino XXX, Nickey Huntsman, Brad Knight, and Amber Chase) are hypnotized to become aroused at the sound of a bell. During a night at the bar, they end up having sex in the middle of it. The second scene is based on 1993's Centerfold. In this scene, model Jasmeen LaFleur is seduced by photographer Marty (Tarantino XXX).

The third scene is based on 1996's Hard Feeling. For readers familiar with Hard Feeling, the marionettes have been changed to mimes. In this scene, a woman (Amber Ivy) watches two mimes (Kinky Gaga and Charlie Comet) go at it on stage while masturbating. The final scene is based on 1999's Art Lover and has Milcah admiring a statue that comes to life (Tarantino XXX) and seduces her.

The sex scenes in Art Sluts are well done. The performers appear to always be enjoying themselves and look good while performing in the sex scenes. Tarantino XXX is the main star in three of the four sex scenes, so if you need a variety to the male star Art Sluts may not be for you. The female stars all look good and there is a variety within the sex scenes.

This reviewer only has two major complaints about Art Sluts. The first one is that Tarantino XXX never talks about why. Why did he pick each adult movie for his homage to the shot on video titles of the 90s? Why did he pick each scene from the movies to recreate in his own styling here? This reviewer would have loved an introduction segment to each scene where Tarantino XXX talked a little about the source adult movie, what attracted him to that movie, and specifically the scene that he reinterprets and why that exact scene.

The other major complaint is the technical side of the movie. Tarantino XXX has an ongoing problem with the technical details within his movies. Some of the detail issues are not that big and may not present themselves as an issue to all viewers. Others are massive issues and likely to bother most, if not all, viewers. The biggest issue lies in the editing. The editing in the movie feels frantic, but that isn't necessarily a good or bad aspect. However, Tarantino XXX has left in footage of him giving obvious direction to the cast and the cast talking to him, about the shoot. This just makes the movie look amateurish.

The next issue is the camera work. Before this reviewer hits too hard on the camera work, this reviewer does want to state there is some nice inventive photography present within Art Sluts. Not all the camera work is poor. However, on the bad side, there are points when the camera is out of focus or shaky. There are scenes that suffer from a lack of camera angles as well. There is one point where a cord is over the lens, which really should have been caught by the cinematographer. This isn't the only time something that should have been caught by the cinematographer wasn't. There are times when a paper backdrop is not the full length of the screen. There is another scene where there is plastic taped on the floor that is captured.

The last couple of technical issues could go under poor set construction since during the set design there had to be an idea that those two issues would be caught on camera. The sets throughout look cheap, which is unfortunate. Their cheapness is highlighted quite a bit by the sets being over lit as well. One set even appears to have broken during the shooting of the sex scene and was never fixed.

The rest of the technical issues include a very poorly green-screened statue coming to life effect. Low quality still shots. The overdriving bar background audio that sounds more like a restaurant than a bar. At one point there appear to be people talking in the background while the movie was being shot. The result of all these technical issues is that the movie just comes across as very rushed.

As to whether it can be considered to be a technical issue or not is up to the viewer, but fake video tape issues have been added to the image during some scenes. In places, the video looks very dull and flat. There are fake glitches in the video and fake dropout that have been added in some places. There have also been fake pops in the audio added as well. This reviewer isn't a fan of purposely messing up the quality of the video but other viewers may find the effect nostalgic for their deteriorating VHS videotapes.

Overall, Art Sluts is a hard movie to recommend or to offer a pass on. The concept for the movie is great and if you remove all the technical problems, Art Sluts is a solid movie that offers some nice covers of 90s sex scenes. However, the technical problems make this a very hard movie to recommend as they will bother most viewers, this reviewer included.

The Edition

The edition screened of Art Sluts was the streaming only version available on TarantinoXXX.com. The edition of Art Sluts at TarantinoXXX.com appears the be the same version that is available through other VOD retailers.

Tarantino XXX has done a good job with their release of Art Sluts. Art Sluts appears to have been shot digitally and is available for streaming in 1080p, 720p, 480p, and 240p. Art Sluts is presented in the anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1. The image presented contains no noticeable defects, other than those that were purposely added to the production. Colors are represented beautifully. There is a white TarantinoXXX.com bug in the lower right-hand corner throughout the entire movie.

Art Sluts is presented with an English Stereo audio track. The audio isn't as good as the video with a very inconsistent presentation. Volume levels vary throughout the movie and the audio sounds like it has echoes at times, which may be due to how the movie was originally shot and not a problem mastering the VOD presentation. The dialog is clear and can be heard at all times.

Tarantino XXX has included an extra for their streaming only release of Art Sluts. There is a nine-minute behind the scenes and outtakes reel.

Final Thoughts

Art Sluts is a movie from Tarantino XXX where he gets to showcase his love for the adult movies of the 1990s. Tarantino XXX has taken four shot on video adult movies from the 1990s and selected a scene from each one. Then he has reimagined that sex scene, changed some details, and then shot his version of the scene. The sex scenes in the movie are well done, however, the movie is heavily bogged down by unnecessary technical issues that detract from the movie considerably. As an end result, Art Sluts is a hard movie to recommend. Tarantino XXX has done a good job with their release of Art Sluts with good video but there are some issues with the audio.
