Apocalypse of Vampires is the third part of Spanish adult movie director Ángel Mora's Vampira trilogy and is also, quite honestly, an adult movie that never should have been made. Apocalypse of Vampires is embarrassingly bad, even for Ángel Mora, who has made some pretty bad adult movies over his career.

The problems start with the story or the lack of an original story. Basically, Ángel Mora decided to plagiarize himself and the earlier entries in the Vampira trilogy. In this entry, Joe (Hektor García) receives, via mail, the journal of his brother Alex (Nacho Vidal), who has committed suicide. The journal describes Alex's fight with vampires and the fact they are strengthening directing Joe to take out the leaders of the vampire clan, Lucy (Laura Brent) and Señor de las Tinieblas (Juan Carlos Bonet) — the lord of darkness.

Almost all of the story comes from Joe reading the journal, rehashing the events that occurred already in Vampira and Vampira 2 — Abiertas hasta el amanecer. Anyone who has already seen the first two movies already knows the story in them and gets to see it all over again, just a bit faster and free from any hardcore material. While Joe is reading from the journal Lucy is just going around having sex with men, then liberating them of their blood. The footage with Lucy is dialog free. There are periods where Ángel Mora has clearly tried to create tension. None of them actually have any tension and since Ángel Mora makes it painfully clear they are supposed to create tension, the moments come across as just awful.

The next problem is that a good half of the footage used in Apocalypse of Vampires is footage that Ángel Mora has liberally stolen from the first two Vampira movies. This is the footage that is shown while Joe is reading from the journal, with occasional footage of Joe reading the journal. So playing true to the early pornographers that tied loops together to make a feature film, Ángel Mora has tied footage from the first two Vampira movies together to create half of this one.

The next problem is that three of the sex scenes don't even appear to have been shot for this movie. They appear to be sex scenes that Ángel Mora had lying around and wanted to use them. Instead of creating an all sex movie for them, he has jammed them in here. For two of them, he uses the convention that Joe, while taking a break from reading Alex's journal, is watching adult film loops on a projector. The third one he tries to tie in as a second female vampire Brenda (Luisa De Marco), however, the scene is only tied in when an off camera's female hand draws an upside down cross in the steam on a mirror.

The only sex scenes that were actually shot for Apocalypse of Vampires are three sex scenes all featuring Laura Brent. None of the sex scenes in the movie, whether they were the three intended for the movie, or the three that were never intended for the movie, are overly inspired. Which sadly fits the feel of the movie, since nothing in this movie feels overly inspired.

Then comes the major technical problems. Either Ángel Mora had a much bigger budget for the first two Vampira movies or a far more talented effects person, or both. The effects in Apocalypse of Vampires look cheap and poor — and even more so when compared to the effects shown from the first two Vampira movies that actually look really good. This good versus bad effects all technical aspects. The locations, cast, etc in the footage from the first two movies looks far better to that in Apocalypse of Vampires which makes the movie look even worse in comparison.

Overall, Apocalypse of Vampires is a movie that shouldn't have been made. Viewers likely, and very rightfully, should feel ripped off when watching this title which is mostly a very poor copy of two of Ángel Mora's previous movies. Over half of the footage in the movie was already used in the first two Vampira movies or was clearly shot for other projects and shoehorned into this one. There is absolutely no reason to seek this movie out.

Nexxxt Generation has done a good job with their DVD release of Apocalypse of Vampires. This reviewer is unsure as to whether Apocalypse of Vampires was shot on film, video, or digitally. Apocalypse of Vampires is presented in the academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1 in 480i. The image on this release looks good with nice color representation and minimal grain. There were no issues noticed with the video at all.

Apocalypse of Vampires is presented with a Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo audio track. The dialog is clear and can be heard at all times. There are no noticeable defects with the audio. In a nice, and rare, move, Nexxxt Generation has included English subtitles so that viewers can actually watch the movie with the original language track and have English subtitles. There is also a dubbed English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo audio track and Dutch subtitles included on the release.

Nexxxt Generation has included two extras on the release. There are two photo galleries and a cum shot recap reel that have been included.

Apocalypse of Vampires is the third movie, and final movie, in Ángel Mora's Vampira series. Quite frankly Apocalypse of Vampires is a movie that should never have been made. Yes, this reviewer knows that quite often that is the case with sequels and the like, however, apparently even Ángel Mora couldn't think of a reason that this movie actually should be made. He raided the vaults and used footage from the first two Vampira movies in this one along with some other assorted sex scenes that were shot for other projects. Most of the movie is spent rehashing the plot from Vampira and Vampira 2 — Abiertas hasta el amanecer. The scant amount of footage that was actually shot for this movie is poorly done and clearly inferior to the first two movies. There is absolutely no reason why anyone would want to see this movie. Whether or not Apocalypse of Vampires should have been made or not, Nexxxt Generation has done a nice job with their DVD release of the movie. The video quality is nice and the original Spanish audio track along with English subtitles are offered. There is also a dubbed English track available. Nexxxt Generation has heavily skimped on the extras though.
