There are only five chapters in the feature itself, which means a lot of scanning is necessary to find the place where I left off. Audio/visual quality: The visual quality is extremely good, with attractive sets, nice lighting and pleasing camera angles.

Audio/visual quality: The raw footage has been extensively processed to include jump edits, color shifts, blurs, enhanced motion, strobing and lots of other interesting effects. Horizontal masks at the top and bottom of the video give it a widescreen appearance. The pacing is best described as frenetic. The camera's shadow does occasionally fall on the performers' bodies, but with so much on-screen activity, it's a flaw that's easily overlooked.

The camera crew successfully avoids their reflections in the mirrors; however, a crew member is caught on screen in scene four. Vignetting occurs frequently throughout the feature.

The focus stays consistently sharp (except for menus and credits, which creatively incorporate a few intentionally fuzzy images). Minor problems with shadows and overlighting are present, but not often enough to interfere with my overall enjoyment of the DVD. There's a low audio hum in places, though it's not overly distracting. The balance is occasionally a little off, especially in scene four. The audio clarity is otherwise good; dialog is very easy to understand, and there's no obvious dubbing.

Extras: Trailers for Sex Across America 1-3, Amateur Angels 1 and Forbidden Lust. Audio/visual quality: The print quality varies from mediocre to worse. Speckles and scratches are frequently visible. Three of the 13 scenes are black and white; the color segments have obviously faded with age. Soft focus problems and inexpert camera angles abound. A couple of chapters are jumpy, possibly due to wear and tear on the original film perforations. Oddly enough, the poor video quality actually contributes to the fun. It really does give the viewer a sense that the loops were unexpectedly discovered moldering away in the back of Dad's closet. The audio track consists of jazz and a "running movie projector" sound effect. The sensuous, flirty music evokes the ambiance of an intimate club, perhaps from the early 1960s. Many of the tunes are so catchy that they've pleasantly lingered in my head long after viewing the DVD.

On only a couple of occasions, the cameraman and equipment get caught in the picture. The jump edits during Mina's tease sequence keep things interesting. Reddish-orange tints are slightly enhanced in scenes one and four, which adds a warm glow to the flesh tones. The audio is nice and clear, with no music. Some muffled traffic noise can be heard during scene three, and airplanes can be heard in scene four.

As might be expected in the outdoor settings, there's a little noise from wind, airplanes, a police siren, etc. Some of the music is markedly better than typical porno tunes from the early 1990s. Several pieces have a pleasing "unplugged" quality, featuring acoustic guitar.

Video noise disrupts the picture in a few places, but it's extremely brief and not highly noticeable. Crew members' shadows are occasionally visible. Emphasis is placed on medium length shots, with above average attention to facial expressions.

Audio/visual quality: Characters and scenery are generally well-drawn, with visually appealing colors. Animation is somewhat spare; repeat frames occur in a number of places. Movements are alternately choppy (ninja swordplay) and fluid (bouncing breasts). Facial expressions occasionally startle (when the good girls get angry, they show fanged canine teeth). At one point, a creative "camera angle" takes the viewer inside a vagina. The music has an appropriately "cartoonish" sound that fits the plot.

Light levels vary noticeably at the beginning, probably due to changing cloud cover during different portions of the dialog. Otherwise, visual quality is quite good. Sound levels are low, though not overly so. Audio has good clarity. (Great sex sounds; no dubbing!) Music is gentle, upbeat and unobtrusive. Why I chose this DVD: I was intrigued by the scenario of an older woman with a younger man. Nina Hartley is 40 here, and Dale DaBone is 27. First impression: It's a slow simmer, yet surprisingly sexy.

Sets and scenery are substantially above average. The music, which has an interesting "world beat" flavor, is exceptional throughout the feature. Dialog is clear; dubbing is nicely synched with the action. Why I chose this DVD: XXXmovie-wise, I'm still wet behind the ears (and elsewhere). Prior to this DVD, I'd seen only four adult films--one soft-core feature at a hotel and three hard-core features on videotape at home. I selected this title based solely on the vendor's description.
