Disc problems: My Apple DVD Player (version 2.2.1) is not reading the time stamp. If I quit during the middle of the scene and later reopen the application, the disc restarts at the FBI warning screen. This is rather annoying. There are only five chapters in the feature itself, which means a lot of scanning is necessary to find the place where I left off.
Audio/visual quality: The visual quality is extremely good, with attractive sets, nice lighting and pleasing camera angles. There are a few minor blemishes (vignetting in a dialog scene, a flash of video noise in a sex scene, etc.) that probably won't disturb too many people.
The soundtrack, however, appears to have fallen under the cost-cutting ax. The music itself is not unpleasant, but several pieces have been looped repeatedly because they're not long enough to cover the scenes. The audio in general is too quiet, which has been an ongoing problem throughout this series. If I turn my volume to its highest setting, then I can catch most of what the performers are saying.
First impression: Although it's less satisfying than the first two volumes, Naked Hollywood 3 is a good movie that does have its moments.
Scene highlights: Wired: Love in the Electronic Age is the third episode of the Naked Hollywood saga, which follows four female friends in their hunt for sexual fulfillment. This particular story addresses the question, "Why is it easier to be electronically intimate than personally intimate?"
The first scene shuns electronics, which is good, since it would otherwise be even shorter than it already is. Dee ("Annie") and Adajja are playing in the warm water of a locker room shower, and fortunately they're smart enough to leave the plug-in devices at home. They have brought some other toys, though—a translucent jelly dildo, a black latex ripple plug, and a transparent double dong—which they use to stimulate each other vaginally. The two ladies establish an agreeable chemistry, but there's no real motivation for the scene, which lasts under six minutes. The previous Naked Hollywood scripts have normally provided at least a cursory introduction and/or dismissal for each of the new characters. But Adajja just pops up and goes away without further explanation, which makes me feel like I've just been treated to the obligatory lesbian scene.
In scene two, Bridgette Kerkove ("Charlene") hosts a sex toy party featuring electronics of the vibrating variety. Her husband, Herschel Savage ("Stanford") hovers around the edge of the living room until she shoos him away. As soon as the guests leave with their purchases, Herschel offers to help clean up. His idea of housework, though, is to sweep his wife's pussy with his tongue and three fingers. He provides a finger for her to suck, and she gives him a blowjob. The camera angle during the cowgirl action is very pleasing; it beautifully showcases Bridgette's backside and displays her hourglass figure to good advantage. I like watching her labia move in and out as she slides up and down, and I'm almost sad when they change to doggie. A condom magically appears on Herschel's cock before it voyages from her pussy to her ass. Then it magically disappears, just in time for his cum to ooze thickly onto her butt.
Keri Windsor ("Monica") brings her purse to bed along with boyfriend Mark Davis. He's not at all intimidated when she pulls out the three vibrators she bought at Bridgette's party. She initially cradles them between her breasts, and he gives her oral attention and manual stimulation with two fingers. Keri briefly applies a Fukuoku 9000 finger vibe to her clit before moving on to a deep and energetic blowjob. It's obvious that she's performing some vigorous tongue work, since her cheek moves in and out repeatedly as she plays around his head. They proceed to a good, hard fucking, which includes a couple of interesting sideways doggie variations, as well as missionary. Keri is extremely orgasmic, clutching at Mark's nipples when she climaxes. Mark is so sensitive that he shudders several times when Keri sucks him off following her facial.
Lauren Montgomery ("Kim") is a bit nervous when her Internet pal Cheyne Collins ("Brian") suggests a date. They meet in a park, but by evening, they're slow dancing in her well-appointed living room. This rather suddenly leads to lovemaking on her artistically cushioned couch. Cheyne and Lauren both display playful enthusiasm during the oral sex. They give each other affectionate eye contact during spooning and missionary, and he generously sprinkles her with cum from neck to navel.
Against her better judgment, radio host Nina Hartley ("Lindsey") agrees to meet Rich Handsome ("Dennis"), a clingy and emotionally needy caller. On their second date, she goes to his place, and they make out in his bedroom. Dennis hooks his tongue up under Nina's clitoral hood to hit the sweet spot. They follow the blowjob with vaginal sex in missionary, spooning and a flattened doggie variation. The last position is a bit unusual, with Nina lying fully on her belly, and it allows some very attractive footage of her world famous butt. Rich leaves a small token of appreciation of those selfsame glorious glutes.
The bonus scene comes from Hotspot. Gwen Summers fantasizes about becoming an "exhibitionist," and she models five different lingerie outfits for her assistant, Nick Manning. This leads to oral for her, a blow job, missionary and doggie. Her handwork suffices to bring him to orgasm, which is a great theme in Hotspot. Still, this scene is hard for me to watch, partly because the constantly panning cameras give me motion sickness and partly because I've never been able to acclimate myself to Gwen's sexual style. She does have a characteristic tendency to squeal and hyperventilate.
Thumbs up: I'm glad to have this disc just for Keri's scene. Over the course of only three episodes, I've become a huge admirer of her no-holds-barred sexual intensity. Keri appears to be genuinely multiorgasmic. She's also living proof that a woman can provide a powerful and effective blowjob without dousing the man's cock with a whole quart of spit.
None of the other scenes are below average, and there are some decent displays of chemistry between the performers. I recently learned through Astroknight's interview of Julia Ann that Toni English is the type of director who welcomes feedback and input from her talent. This is an excellent policy, and it might explain why everyone looks so happy on her sets.
Thumbs down: I would not normally complain about too little vibrator usage. But there must be at least a dozen vibes in this movie, and the only one that's ever used is Keri's Fukuoku 9000. It's in action for a grand total of 13 seconds. I keep expecting more, and I end up feeling teased. It would have been really fun, and a little daring, for one of the women to use a vibe on her partner's penis or nipples. This is an almost nonexistent concept in porn, though perhaps not in real life.
The story in general feels a little underdeveloped compared to the first two. It's still better than a typical porn script; however, the running time of the features is definitely decreasing with each new installment (the first episode is 81 minutes, the second is 78 and the third is only 73). This is not a positive trend, and I don't know quite what to expect from volume four. It's also disappointing that the trailers included on these three discs are identical. I've seen them now; give me something new, please.
Themes: Straight, lesbian, oral, anal, facial (one only), toys (dildos, vibrators).
Condom use: Yes, in all b/g scenes. Bridgette and Herschel use one for anal penetration only, however.
Juice-o-meter: Medium.
Final analysis: Naked Hollywood 3 is a pretty good movie, and it's definitely worth having if you're collecting the whole set. It doesn't hold to its theme as well as the first two volumes, however, and newcomers to the series will want to start with Naked Hollywood 1 or Naked Hollywood 2.
