review from 7/21/2018:
"X-Rated: The Greatest Adult Movies of all Time" is a good, albeit fluffy, documentary hosted by Chanel Preston that offers up about an hour-and-a-half's worth of material that puts forth its creators' views of the best that the adult genre has to offer. Documenting films both past and present, the selections start with the "Deep Throat" era and go up essentially through the modern day (...to, say, about five years ago). [read the full review]

review from 8/12/2016:
X-Rated: The Greatest Adult Films of All-Time is a fun look at a series of films and movies that are culturally important to the adult entertainment industry from 1972 until 2013. X-Rated skimps on the historical impact that each of the included films had. However, the documentary is a nostalgic look through some of the best films to ever grace the blue screen. After the documentary is over, if you are a fan of feature films, you will want to rewatch films you had forgotten about and seek out others that you have missed. X-Rated is definitely a fun watch for fans of the feature film genre. [read the full review]

Distribpix have gone all out with the Blu-ray release of The Opening of Misty Beethoven providing the best quality version of this film seen yet on home video and a wealth of extras that delve into the film itself. This release is highly recommended for fans of the film, even if they own the previous VCA release, or for any fans of classic adult cinema. [read the full review]

Confessions of a Teenager will never be considered to be a great adult film, nor should it be considered to be a poor adult film. The film had the potential to be very good, however, numerous poor choices made while making the film along with some amateurish mistakes keep the film from ever reaching its full potential. Confessions of a Teenager is worth a watch, however, I am not sure that it's a film that one would want to own in their collection. Gourmet Video Collection has done a poor job with this release of Confessions of a Teenager with low-quality video and audio. [read the full review]

review from 5/7/2016:
A lifetime of sexual near-misses and bad experiences, coupled with a bizarre peanut butter fetish brought about by a creepy, sexual encounter with an aunt, has soured Zachary Strong on his ability to land women. Fortunately for him, a brunette gas attendant, Helen Madigan, lends a sympathetic ear (...and pussy...) in helping him turn things around. Such is the case in "Confessions of a Teenager" (a.k.a. "Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak"), a decent, 1975 release from director Zachary Strong and Gourmet Video. [read the full review]

review from 1/5/2017:
If Alpha Blue Archives had put three of Zachary Strong's stronger efforts on this release with a quality image and audio, this multiple film set might be worth picking up. However, one of Strong's worst films (More Ways Than One) and one of Jerry Abrams' worst films (The Analyst) are included on this release along with a decent film from Jerry Abrams (Confessions of a Teenage Peanut Butter Freak). Alpha Blue Archives has used some rather abysmal masters for this release so as a result none of the films are overly fun to watch, even if you do like all three films. As a result, there is no real need to acquire this release. [read the full review]

review from 5/10/2006:
How does one review a cut version of an alternate cut? I suppose I'll begin with a bit of background. In 1976, when the term talent in relation to hardcore films didn't mean that a movie included 5 anal scenes or an "actress" was willing to do a creampie, many TALENTED filmmakers lent their hands (and minds) to high class, high budgeted, hardcore productions. Barriers were broken as more and more controversial material was allowed into hardcore productions. Even so, some still pushed the line a bit too far. (Anna) Obsessed was born in 1976, and released simply under the title Obsessed (a title which inexplicably remains on every single video I've ever seen of this film, even though all the boxes say Anna Obsessed). The film was either to strong, or perhaps to depressing and realistic for both critics and audiences, for it disappeared from screens as quickly as it had arrived. Towards the end of 1977 however, Obsessed reemerged as Anna Obsessed. [read the full review]

review from 9/6/2016:
"Maraschino Cherry" is an interesting release from 1978, Radley Metzger, and Video-X-Pix that, once again, appears that I'm going to be the only one who really likes it. That's not to say that it isn't without its flaws, of course. Indeed, this film--to a large degree--comes off as "trying too hard" to replicate the type of nonchalant, sexual action/attitude that pervades films like "Barbara Broadcast" and so on. Still, in many ways, it's enjoyable and sexy...enough so that I found it a worthy purchase. [read the full review]

review from 5/11/2006:
Don't be fooled by the fact that this was directed by Radley Metzger, who directed such acknowledged classics as The Opening of Misty Beethoven. This film just doesn't come close to the level of Misty Beethoven, or Metzger's other efforts. The DVD was transfered from an extremely distressed print of the movie. This thing is simply terrible to look at, and there is little eroticism, despite the presence of the superstars of the era, including Leslie Bovee, Gloria Leonard, Constance Money, and Annette Haven. For example, Constance Money's scene consists only of a short handjob. About the only thing that saves this film from being a complete waste is the nasty, kinky S&M scene with C.J. Lang. NOTE: This is not your typical review. Others have done an excellent job reviewing the content, scenes, performances, etc. of this porn classic. This "review" concerns itself with how the DVD's contents compare with the complete, uncut original release version of the film or an early (before prior self-censorship) VHS version. The Ratings given refer either to the "original" version of the film (Performers, Plot, Sex, etc.) or to the DVD version (Extras, Value, etc.) and are relatively arbitrary. The important info is that which follows. MARASCHINO CHERRY DVD IS THE PITS! Radley Metzgers last hardcore effort under his Henry Paris nom-de-film is finally available on DVD from Video-X-Pix. Well, they saved the worst for last and by that, I dont mean from a content standpoint! While Maraschino Cherry is generally regarded as the weakest of that group of films, even Metzgers weakest efforts far outstrip those of most of his porn peers and successors, IM (and many others) HO. review from 2/20/2015:
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the production of "The Opening of Misty Beethoven", the 1970's adult film classic from director Radley Metzger and VCA. Starring Constance Money as a young prostitute whom the late Jamie Gillis chances upon while plying her trade in a Parisian theater, this flick traces her journey from an erotically uninspired bore to a talk-of-the-town, world-class sexpot. Indeed, under Gillis' tutelage and with his wealthy friend's (Jacqueline Beudant's) fortune, Money transforms from a hapless, young harlot unwilling to suck a dick to a seasoned pro, capable of pleasuring a group of men, turning homosexuals with her charms, and ultimately seducing the most powerful name in men's publishing and his mistress (Gloria Leonard). review from 1/23/2004:
What do you get when you mix Metzer, a classic play, two very hot actors, and a relatively big budget? You get the best porno movie ever made. Unfortunately, that's not saying very much since most porn movies are extremely bad and being the best of the worst isn't exactly a very good accomplishment. The largest problem with this movie is that the plot was razor thin and extremely fragmented. The flow of the story was continuously interrupted by needless scenes of blowjobs. (Way too many blowjobs in my opinion. Metzer is way too obsessed with blowjobs. The ratio of blowjobs to vaginal sex was something like 10 to 1.) He also liked to add in ridiculous dialogue to the ends of good scenes. I suppose his intention was to break the tension of sexual arousal with some comedy. (Mainstream movies do this all the time like when they add a comedy bit to an action sequence.) This device did not work for this movie because it ended up coming across as being stupid rather than funny which is funny since the play that this movie is based on is actually funny all the way through. A young reporter (C.J. Laing) sent to interview a famed prostitute turned acclaimed author (Annette Haven) ultimately finds herself lured into the lurid, free-lovin' lifestyle of her subject, and with all of the fucking and sucking going on, she's certainly not turning back. Such is the case in "Barbara Broadcast", a very good, Golden Age release from Radley Metzger and VCA. [read the full review]

The Top 25 Adult Stars of All Time Directed by Various Running time (approx): 240mins I think there is a very good reason why many hold the classic era of porn (70s, 80s) in such high regard. For me when I first saw films like this, they were normally passed to me on very low quality VHS, sometimes with no sound, or a picture so bad it was almost unwatchable. Porn back then was the holy grail. It was next to impossible to widely obtain (at least here in the UK) and just seeing real sex was amazing. Now it is different. Hardcore for one, is legal in the UK. Porn is now on DVD and the picture quality is never an issue (at least by no means the issue it was) and also, such beautiful women are ready and willing to shed their inhibitions for your viewing enjoyment. It is a different world now, and for me I have come to the realisation that yes, porn in the past was special because it was so forbidden and unobtainable but porn now is in a different league. We compulsively make them, whether they are of our favorite rock bands, favorite movies, best places to eat ribs, favorite sexual positions, or whatever there is in the world that can be counted.
