The Review

Synopsis:
(Part 1) In between their studies, the girls at the Townsend School for Girls fantasize about having and have sex. (Part 2) The bad girls from the Townsend School for Girls are back, this time at Camp Townsend. In between the daily camp activities the girls find time to fantasize about having and have sex.

Video/Audio:
The video quality in Girls in Blue — Parts 1 & 2 vary greatly between the two parts. In the first part, the picture is soft and very grainy. There is shadowing visible when the white background is being used. There are also occasional artifacts from the original film. The color is also washed out in some scenes. The master used appears to have been a videotape since there are also occasional picture blemishes as seen on video tapes. The video for Little Girls Blue gets the one ranking seen above.

In the second part, the picture is greatly improved. The image, for the most part, is sharp and there is no shadowing. In a few scenes there is grain present and the black levels are washed out. There are occasional artifacts from the original film present. The color levels, except for black in a few instances, are good. The master used for this version also appears to have been a video tape as well as there are occasional picture blemishes from the tape. The video for Little Girls Blue — Part 2 would get a ranking of two if featured separately from part 1.

Both films appear to have originally been filmed in widescreen, my guess would be that it was probably in the 1.66:1 ratio, this is based on some portions of scenes where the framing was odd and it looked like the picture had been enlarged. In neither part is the picture so bad that it is unwatchable although the picture quality in the first part can be distracting at times. Quite honestly, I was expecting a far worse transfer, given the ages of the films and what I have heard about VCX’s discs. Both films look like they were originally shot on film and not on video.

The sound for both films is an English 2.0 Mono track. In the first film the dialog is clear and easy to hear and the music, what little is used, never comes close to drowning out the dialog. In the second film the dialog is muffled in places and easy to hear in others. Again, the music, what little is used, never comes close to drowning out any of the dialog. No subtitle options are available and there are no other language tracks available.

Cut Warning:
Girls in Blue — Parts 1 & 2 is a combination of VCX’s earlier two films Little Girls Blue and Little Girls Blue — Part 2 which have original listed run times of 71 minutes and 82 minutes respectively. In this version of the films, Little Girls Blue has a run time of 57 minutes meaning that 14 minutes has been cut from the original and Little Girls Blue — Part 2 has a run time of 60 minutes meaning that 22 minutes have been cut from the original.

Special Features:
This is basically a movie only version of these films. There are five chapters available from the menu for Little Girls Blue and six chapters available from the menu for Little Girls Blue — Part 2. The Slide Show, called Photo Shots on the box, contains 18 still shots from the films and runs for about a minute and a half. The still shots are all crisp and clear showing that they didn’t come from this print of the film. Coming soon shows boxes for movies coming soon as of the making of the disc, some of them have been released now. There are no trailers available for any of the films. Listed movies are Sex World, Loose Times at Ridley High, Like Mother Like Daughter, Erotic Adventures of Candy, Sweet Young Foxes, Tangerine, The Devil in Miss Jones, Debbie Does Dallas and Girls on Fire. Web Site just shows you the address of the VCX site on the Internet.

Review:
Little Girls Blue, titled Girls in Blue — Part 1 on this disc, is almost in its original form. The first change is the title card with the original title has been cut and a poorly done card with the new title, which doesn’t match the rest of the credits, has been put in. The rest of the original credits are intact. The next cut is the scene with Chris Petersen and Paul Thomas in the history teacher’s office. This scene has been cut completely from this transfer. The final cut is in the final scene with K.C. Winters (?) and Ken Scudder in Miriam’s room where the lines pertaining to Debbie being a virgin have been cut. The rest of this scene appears to be intact. The end credits are still intact too. I’ve never seen the original version, but I did find a detailed scene listing for it from which I was able to determine these cuts. There may have been other snips here and there. In total 14 minutes have been cut from the original 71 minute film bringing the runtime down to 57 minutes. Except for the title card and the quick cut in the Winters/Scudder scene, the cuts are unnoticable if you aren’t familiar with the original film or have a scene list infront of you. The cuts appear to be due to the current laws of what can be shown and what is questionable as to whether it can be shown, not just miscellaneous cuts.

Enough of what isn’t present on the disc, what is present is a great classic film from the golden age of adult films. There isn’t much of a plot, it is more of a setting for the film than a full storyline. The Townsend School for Girls is sent at a giant old sprawling Victorian Mansion. It fits the film perfectly. Another set used is an old cabin, which also is great. No sets that look fake which are used way too much in today’s adult cinema are present here. The film is beautifully shot as well with nice inventive camera techniques. All of the fantasy dream sequences are filmed in a completely white room. The writing, although cheesy at times, is better than most of the adult films today.

A great film, especially if you are into the school girls’ theme. The females present are not as attractive as many of the actresses today, but look much better than the ones used for the most part in the early seventies. Not all the males are good looking either, but they all fit their roles perfectly.

Little Girls Blue — Part 2, called Girls in Blue — Part 2, Little Girls Blue — Part 2 and A Touch of Blue on the disc, seems to have suffered more under the editing axe. I didn’t have a scene list for this film so this is what appears to have been trimmed. They may not actually have been cut and additional scenes could have also been cut. The opening creditsa re a complete hack job. First is a title card with the first four cast members and the title Girls in Blue — Part 2. Then a few second pause with a black screen, then a title card giving the title Little Girls Blue — Part 2. Then a title card giving an alternately known title, A Touch of Blue, after which we get the first four cast members again followed by the rest of the cast. All the credits after the cast have been removed. All the scenes in the beginning of the film appear to be completely intact. Toward the end of the film is where the cuts appear to have been made. In the threesome scene with Barbara Klouds (?), Kathleen Kristel (?) and an unknown male, the beginning for the scene appears to have been cut. After this scene and the scene with Chris Petersen and an unknown male, we are thrown into what appears to be an incredibly cut scene taking place in a room with a fireplace. This scene is very short then we go to the end of the story and the film ends with Barbara Klouds and Kathleen Kristel running after Chris Petersen and Lori Blue. The end credits have also been removed. There may be additional snips through the rest of the film, but if there were they are unnoticeable. In total, 22 minutes have been cut from the original 82 minute film bringing the run time down to 60 minutes. I don’t know whether these cuts were made to remove questionable content or whether they were made to allow VCX to put the two films together on one 2-hour VHS tape when they were originally edited into this form in the late ‘80s

An update on the parts of Little Girls Blue — Part 2 that have been edited from this release. The opening scene to the film, which is Lori Blue giving a blow job has been completely removed. When the girls are getting off the bus, Lori has a short dream with Herschel Savage that is cut from the film. And when Lori Blue is seen on a swing, this is either the first or last shot of a scene that has otherwise been cut from the film.

As with Little Girls Blue, the plot for Little Girls Blue — Part 2 is more of a setting than an actual plot line, and, as with the first film, it works well again here. The sets here are great, they are mostly made up of small wooden cabins in the woods, very simple, but refreshing to see well done sets instead of the cheap imitations that are used way too much today. Fantasy dream sequences are filmed in a completely black room this time around, which is a nice contrast from the first film’s white rooms. Little Girls Blue — Part 2 is well written with plenty of cheesy dialog, especially in the scene where Lori Blue is being taught how to give a blow job. Lori Blue and Chris Petersen reprise their roles from the original film. Barbara Klouds and Kathleen Kristel join the cast bringing the female looks up from the first film. The photography again is beautiful and inventive. A great classic film especially if you are into summer camp themed films.

So, how is the disc itself? VCX did a very shoddy job of putting it together. Both films are on the same track and the chapters don’t distinguish one film from the other. The chapters from the menu don’t even lead to each sex scene, only some of them. There are additional chapters in the feature itself that go to each scene and even break some of them up. There is no time code for the films either, so easy navigation from the menu and at some points while watching the film isn’t possible. On the positive side, the menus look great. Also, the slide show pictures look great, proving that the ones for Little Girls Blue were not taken from this transfer. It is too bad that VCX did not use the transfer they took the slide show pictures from. It’s unfortunate that, since these films are classics from the Golden Age, VCX did not put more care into them. One star was taken from the overall and plot/acting categories due to the cuts and the sloppiness of some of them.

The Money Shot:
Although it is unfortunate that both films have been cut and the picture quality in the first one is questionable, these are still two very well done films. If you are a fan of the classics, of either of these films, of school girl or summer camp themed movies you probably want to pick this disc up since this is probably the best treatment these films are going to get on DVD and since the packaging states that they are limited editions. Otherwise, I would avoid this title.
