The First Word:  The title Ass Angels definitely sets some expectations of what this compilation will deliver.  Unfortunately, while it's a good value for the sheer amount of sex on the disc, anal fans will be disappointed.

What's It About?:  This is a 4-hour long compilation of scenes from Adam & Eve and Ultimate productions that contain anal sex.  Since the entire sex scenes are included on the disc, the actual amount of anal sex is actually only a fraction of the running time.

This is a "flipper" disc, meaning that there is content on both sides of the disc. On Side A, there are 10 scenes:  Carribbean Undercover (Tera Patrick & Anthony Crane), Fire & Ice (Vivian Valentine, Jessica Drake, & Evan Stone), Taboo of Tarot (Nikki Anderson & Mark Davis), Blue Matrix (Chennin Blanc & Cheyne Collins), Carnal Witness (Chloe, Herschel Savage & Chris Cannon), Blue Matrix (Alexandra Silk & Randy Spears), Garden Party (Angela Austin, Roxanne Blaze, Toni James & Mark Davis), Sex Island (Caro line, Sheila & Mickey G.), Miss Jackie's Full Service Salon (Tracy Love & Evan Stone), and Skintight (Julie Meadows & Cheyne Collins).

Rather than going into a blow-by-blow of each scene, I'll just defer to Astroknight's fine review on this title for the scene descriptions.  Maybe I'm being lazy, but considering my general disappointment in this title, I didn't want to waste a lot of time regurgitating basic information that already exists in other reviews.

What I liked: Credited compilation: Considering that all of the scenes on this disc were taken from other Adam & Eve/Ultimate movies, I'm glad the producers decided to include the movie title and performers in the chapter selection menu.  It's a good marketing technique to tell the viewers what they are watching in case they might want to buy the entire DVD.  I wish Adam & Eve had gone one step further and listed that information at the beginning of the scene, just like music videos list the lredits at the beginning and ending of the videos.  And I wish they were a little more careful in their research -- one of the scenes is credited to Alexa Rae but the actual performer is Jessica Drake.

A few hot moments: Although A&E and Ultimate videos tend to be too couples-oriented for my tastes, there were a couple of notable moments on this DVD.  Ironically, none of them were anal in nature!  Alexandra Silk delivers a smoking-hot blowjob (as usual) that caught my attention.  I also enjoyed the mini-orgy from The Garden Party, especially the pussy-to-mouth action.  Finally, being a wax and liquid latex lover, seeing Tracy Love getting the candle wax treatment and Julie Meadows "wearing" a painted-on bra and shorts was a treat.

What I didn't like:  It's not hard enough:  It's kind of funny to hear myself say this since I'm not really a raincoater per se, but I found most of the sex boring.  While I'm not looking for anal gaping or hard anal ravaging, I was expecting more intensity than this grouping of scenes provided.  It's no secret that Adam & Eve/Ultimate caters to the casual pornsumer and couples who order from their mail order companies.  The end result is often hardcore yet tame porn with solid production values.  While that's nice for many people, it doesn't do much for me in general (though there are some exceptions as I mentioned earlier).

Where's the anal?  Funny, I was expecting to see a lot of anal penetration, maybe some DP's, toys, etc. when I bought this DVD.  But because of the couples-friendly movies, there's not a lot of explict detail or lingering shots.  Instead, the cameras capture a lot of the action from obscured positions (no doubt to help out in editing the cable versions) and what little anal there is doesn't get the attention that it deserves.  Also, because these are more-or-less complete scenes in this compilation, I would estimate that 80% of every scene doesn't show anal but rather foreplay, vaginal sex, etc.  And if I'm disappointed as a lukewarm fan of anal, then I would guess that anal fetishists would be disappointed.

DVD Extras:  Other than a photo gallery, there's not much in the way of extras.  That's pretty much what I expect from a compilation, especially one that is so long.  But Adam & Eve was nice enough to throw in two additional scenes, bringing the scene total to 20 scenes with a running time of more than 4 hours!  That's impressive for a DVD that's budget priced.  The bonus scenes themselves are pretty decent, featuring the popular Tera Patrick and the lovely Nikki Anderson, even though they don't contain any anal sex.

A/V Quality:   As you might imagine from a compilation, the quality of the audio and video varies from scene to scene.  But I have to give Ultimate and Adam & Eve credit -- they are consistently very good in that department.  I don't recall seeing any scenes where I noticed any problems.  One highlight of the disc was the scene from Sex Spell that features anamorphic widescreen video (more about anamorphic video) -- very cool indeed!

The Last Word:  I can't argue that this is a heck of a bargain for a compilation DVD of quality couples-friendly scenes.  However, it's a little misleading in my book to call this an anal compilation when the only link is that at least some part of the scene has anal sex.  But I guess that I'm about as likely to see a compilation of a lot of true anal scenes as I'm to see a disc of romantic scenes from Seymore Butts.  So if you're looking for softer anal scenes at an outstanding value, you have my blessing to pick this disc up.
