Part of the problem is that so much of today's porn is disposable - you could as well be reviewing tissue papers or something. Sure, I have my preferences, but they are hardly universal. However, I feel that this DVD is an overlooked gem that really deserves more attention. Private Performance have previously released a few female solo DVDs in the Liquid Gold series.

Review brief: I used to have a VHS copy of John Leslie's Chameleon, in which Tori Welles seemed to have the ability to change shape at will - although there was a certain element of ambiguity about the events that no reviewer has seemed to pick up on. What exactly was real? The not-sequel from 1992 features Deidre Holland and Rocco Siffredi as a couple of vampiric shape-changers and Ashlyn Gere as an adventurous woman who is seduced and intrigued by them. The plot is less ambiguous this time around, although not exactly mainstream. I suppose the viewer is aided by the obvious loans from other movies, most obviously Tony Scott's The Hunger. Watching the movie I was struck by a realization of how much I had been missing real and intriguing plots in porn. Chameleons is by no means a perfect movie - I did not get the opening scene, which appears to be taken from an entirely different kind of movie. All it seems to do is to establish the bitchiness of the Ashlyn Gere character, and not very effectively.

Review brief: The people at SEVP can't spell the word Finnish, but otherwise Finish nights (the title is in the colors of the Finnish national flag) is not bad for a porn DVD. The video is about average, or slightly above, by porn standards, and the sound is clear enough. There is some elevator music playing at a low level during all scenes. The sound is not dubbed, but sometimes you get the impression that it is not quite synchronized with the action. The extras are also pretty standard: a few trailers, a few stills, and a "jump to a scene" function. There could be more chapter stops, and the ones that are there are usually not at the beginning of a scene, but jump right in the middle of action after the setup. Most of the dialogue is in more or less accented English, but the girls speak occasional phrases in Finnish. (Maybe this is meant to prove their nationality.) Review brief: Overview The concept behind Nymph would make a decent or even good movie, but this is not that movie. If you want to take the story seriously, you will find out that Chasey Lain and Vince Vouyer are not the actors to pull this story off, and you will not be thrilled to note that the special effects are limited to a few lame double exposures. On the other hand, if you watch it for the sex, you get the usual lukewarm Vivid movie with bad camera angles and editing, courtesy of Ralph Parfait.

Review brief: Overview This DVD turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, after reading the glowing reviews of the first one in the series. We see short pieces of Misty Rain sightseeing in Paris, visiting a sex shop, eating at restaurants, and showing us the house she is staying in, interspersed with sex scenes featuring Misty and a few French and American performers, and one flashily edited sequence where she is on stage at a trade show. The sex scenes have little to do with the non-sex scenes, they are just stuck together. I think my biggest problem is the disjointed feeling, there is no continuity. Also, I do not find some of the performers appealing, which also can skew my judgement. On re-viewing the sex scenes, I found many of them to be better than I remembered, so I suppose my initial impression might have been too negative. Misty is probably the worst tour guide ever, when she does her Valley Girl commentary from a L'OpenTour bus.

Review brief: The package There are those who say Randy West's Real Female Masturbation series is the best solo girl series available. Then there are those who ridicule Randy for various reasons - like being too old, trying desperately to appear younger than his age, and for lousy cumshots (which is not applicable here) - and would not watch anything produced by him. Where would I stand on this burning issue? No other way to find out but to watch one example of the series. I picked volume 2 mostly on the basis of its online price. The DVD boxcover is certainly not much to look at in terms of graphic design. (Give me a bunch of stills and Photoshop, and see if I don't come up with something easier on the eyes in a couple of hours.) Neither are the DVD features very impressive. There is the basic animated menu, which shows each of the 6 scenes, and an image gallery (16 images) and some 8 very short previews of Randy's Up'n'Cummers and I Love Lesbians volumes.

Review brief: (The boxcover text, available at any webstore, is a fairly accurate description of the content, so I am not going to describe it in detail.) This DVD features pissing and solo masturbation scenes by three pretty and young women. The masturbation scenes are very good (especially Kerbie's and Kelly's scenes). They are probably among the best solo scenes I have seen. The girls do a sensual striptease to warm things up. There is no music, and neither do the girls say anything, all you hear is their moans and the wet squishy sound the fingers or the toys make. I think the simplicity and the reality is is what makes the scenes work so well. Kelly (also known as Kelly Havel, I believe) stands out here. She has long black hair and an a very pretty face. She actually looks much better in the video than in the boxcover picture (which is what drew me to get this DVD in the first place). Also she seems to really get off on the masturbation, using her fingers and a big clear dildo.

Review brief: This is another personal favorite from my collection that gets a decent amount of playtime. Statistical information: Disc type: 2 sides, 1 layer Feature length: about 2 hrs Extras: stills, clips, trailers I have acquired a handful of Vivid Raw titles just because they often are on sale at various netstores. The quality varies a lot: sometimes you get a DVD that should be good on the outset but isn't (Femme 2), and sometimes there are one or two hot scenes amidst less exciting stuff (Channel X). You hope to come across the occasional gem. Choose Your Cooze is the best of the lot so far. It is also an all-condom movie, penetration-wise, so those who have a strong aversion to condoms can leave at this point. Still here? Good. The premise is simple. Apparently the producer called a bunch of pornstars and asked them who they'd want to work with, and the results can be seen on this DVD.

Review brief: With an Anabolic title, you pretty much always know what you are getting. If the title is "Butt Banged Naughty Nurses" (from back in '97), you know there'll be scenes featuring anal sex and pornstars dressed as nurses and no plot to distract "you wankers at home", as Sabrina would put it. Sabrina Johnson sits in a dentist's chair and introduces the scenes. I wonder if Sabrina talks like that in real life, or is she trying to sound sexy in a kind of innocent-butt-nasty way. Or maybe she is not quite convinced by her lines, like "I get so horny watching girls get their ass stretched wide" and so on. Whatever, she looks cute in that white dress (also white panties, stockings and suspenders, and a pair of platform shoes to complete the look). There's one point I don't like, though: the hot pink lipstick she has on (which matches her fingernails as a kind of fashion statement). I prefer a more natural look. In the first scene doctors Vouyer, Vitale and Ray bang nurse Chloe in some clinic.

Review brief: This is not a new DVD, but no one has apparently posted a review, so here are some comments. London Calling continues in the same vein as Tanya Hyde's two earlier Private videos (Xtreme Desires and Twisted Dreams). There are five scenes featuring Monique Covét along with Bettina, who has been in quite a few Private productions, and the less familiar girls Ingrid Suede and Chantelle. The cocksmen are billed as Tony di Sergio, Kevin Long, Roy Rogers and Tony Gold. The editing is in the same style as in the previous videos: induced graininess, jerkiness and false colours alternate with snippets of more ordinary video, and everything is accompanied by driving techno beats and dubbed moans. Beyond the fetish clothing and settings, the sex itself is not that daring or outré. However, the style is original enough. In fact, the Tanya Hyde productions are just about the only ones coming from Private I find interesting at all.
