The package

There are those who say Randy West's Real Female Masturbation series is the best solo girl series available. Then there are those who ridicule Randy for various reasons - like being too old, trying desperately to appear younger than his age, and for lousy cumshots (which is not applicable here) - and would not watch anything produced by him. Where would I stand on this burning issue? No other way to find out but to watch one example of the series. I picked volume 2 mostly on the basis of its online price.

The DVD boxcover is certainly not much to look at in terms of graphic design. (Give me a bunch of stills and Photoshop, and see if I don't come up with something easier on the eyes in a couple of hours.) Neither are the DVD features very impressive. There is the basic animated menu, which shows each of the 6 scenes, and an image gallery (16 images) and some 8 very short previews of Randy's Up'n'Cummers and I Love Lesbians volumes. This DVD is not exactly packed with extras.

The main feature itself is about 135 minutes long. There are 6 scenes. The first 3 follow a simple concept: Randy interviews a new girl, instructs her to strip and pose for the camera, and moves in for closeups of her body. (He gets so close that often the screen is filled with a closeup of a single nipple or a huge set of labia, drifting in and out of focus.) With this out of the way, the girl then masturbates, while Randy captures it on video, and chats with the girl. Sometimes he gets his dick out and pleasures himself, and in this volume, one of the girls plays with his dick for a while. These scenes are very slow and talky, which can be seen both as a good and a bad thing. The good thing is that Randy develops a kind of rapport with the girl, which makes her feel more relaxed about masturbating in front of his camera - many of these girls are not exactly hardened professionals. The bad thing about it is, well, if you are in a hurry, these scenes are slow, and most of the talk is not that fascinating, at least if you have seen the scene before. Randy's compliments may well coax a better performance from the girls by getting them into a sexy mood, but from a viewer's perspective he is belaboring the obvious: "That's a first class ass, no doubt about it. I could spend all day watching it, wouldn't mind a bit..." (Yes, Randy, but she might get tired of sticking it up in the air sooner than that.) There are chapter stops within the scenes, though, in case you want to skip the preliminaries and get right into the meat - but the talking goes on even there. I don't actually mind Randy's style, but then I haven't been forced to watch hours and hours of his stuff without pause.

(My guess is that he often shoots material for several of his gonzo lines in the same sessions, and that these girls might not be quite as fresh and unprepared as he wants us to believe.)

The last scenes deviate from the established format: the fourth scene, introduced by Randy in his editing bay, is the tail end of a scene that has been split between volumes 1 and 2, the fifth is a short but good scene from Up'n'Cummers 1, and the last one seems to be older material tacked on to make the video longer. This is shot by someone else, I believe.

None of the scenes have any kind of background music, and they don't need any either.

The scenes

First up is brunette Jamie. She says she is 28 years old, comes from Seattle, and works in the sales and marketing department of a department store chain. This is her video debut, also according to IAFD, which lists only 5 titles with her, all from 1999. One of the listings (Little White Chicks... Big Black Monster Dicks 3) appears to be incorrect - according to other sources the girl in that one is billed as Jasmine, and is apparently a blonde. If so, Jamie's porn career may actually consist of only two masturbation scenes and one foot fetish scene with Randy.

When she is masturbating bent over the couch, she wants Randy to spank and fondle her ass. It is a nicely substantial posterior at that, one that has a bounce to it. She climaxes while riding on a vibrator, and Randy's camera is on her face at that moment, which is a good choice of viewing angle. This woman has a pretty and expressive face and eyes.

Fresh-faced blonde Deven says she is a 19-year-old college student from Alabama. She tells Randy she is about to get her boobs enlarged, which is a shame, actually - a feeling that is expressed by Randy as well. IAFD lists only two titles with her, the other apparently being just a strip tease scene in a movie called Pretty Girls.

When the scene begins, Deven is lying down on the floor wearing denim coveralls. After the preliminary striptease and posing on the bed is done, she heads to the bathroom. Randy captures her peeing on the toilet, and she flashes an embarrassed smile because of this attention. After that she masturbates in the bath, with hot water running over her.

Raven-haired Shakira tells Randy she is from Guatemala and works in Las Vegas teaching English to Latino immigrant children. She wears a pantsuit and a little too much lipstick. She has also done very little porn, only 3 titles. I liked her quite a lot, although she is kind of quiet and soft-spoken.

This is pretty good stuff. Lying on her back, Shakira brings herself to climax with a small pocket rocket vibrator. When Randy climbs on the bed with her, she reaches up with her foot and grinds Randy's groin and cock with the sole of her shoe. Then she sits up, and starts working the cock with her hands and the vibrator. While doing that, she asks him questions like "Do you like to fuck?" and "What positions do you like?" in a parody of his own interviewing style. She lies down again, and Randy jacks off standing over her. There is a cut during which Randy may have ejaculated on her.

When the fourth scene starts, Autumn is already in full-on horny mode, with a golden vibrator buzzing away on her clit. This scene continues the action from volume 1. (This appears to be a standard ruse with Randy - he splits scenes between two tapes/DVDs to get the sheep customers to buy both volumes.) According to Autumn's IAFD listing, these two videos are the only titles she has ever appeared in. She says something about her 21st birthday, but I would have guessed her to be several years older

When the scene opens, Autumn is using a shiny bullet-shaped vibrator, and in the closeups there are pearly drops of stuff oozing out of her. After she is done with the vibrator, Randy gives her a set of "thunder balls", which are basically jumbo-sized thai beads with vibrators inside each. She stuffs them in turn to both her holes, and has a ball with them.

Next, Randy offers some recycled material, with Roxanne Blaze in a scene from Up'N'Cummers 1. This would be from way back in 1993. In this scene Roxanne masturbates on a couch before doing a scene with Randy Spears and Randy West. Roxanne fingers herself into a loud and rocking orgasm while the guys watch and stroke their dicks, mostly off camera. The video shows its age here by looking softer than in the previous scenes. This scene is short compared to the others, but it might well be the hottest one here. Roxanne appears to be very uninhibited and natural. I like the way she bursts out laughing when Randy Spears "knocks on wood" after she has finished. I love these moments. They are what makes gonzo worth watching, never mind the fucking.

The last scene is with Kiara Syns, a blonde, whom I do not find all that attractive. She seems to have done only 4 scenes, all for Randy. This scene may also be recycled from earlier material, because Kiara's other listed scenes are from 1997, and apparently the cameraman/interviewer is not Randy himself. The video is a little noisier and the audio flatter, tinnier than in the other segments.

Notes

I have to give high marks to the naturalness of the scenes, but they do tend to be a little slow. If you do not like to hear Randy talk, then this series is right out. Another drawback of the intimate style is that Randy probably uses fairly minimal equipment, and the result looks like a home video: the picture is murky and soft, not much (if any) better than VHS, and the sound is, well, adequate. There is very little editing, and the picture from the handheld camera is sometimes out of focus and unsteady. You can take that as added reality, or consider it a technical problem.

All things considered, this might still be the second best masturbation DVD concept I have seen. Certain scenes from the Liquid Gold series from Private Performance beat this DVD hands down, with or without the peeing. (I am thinking especially of Avalon/Michelle from volume 1 and Kelly from volume 2.) In those scenes there is no dialog between the girl and the director/cameraman, and yet the girls seem to get turned on and deliver the real goods. One day I should pick up one of the She Squirts DVD's and see how that series measures up.

This concept could be improved by better videography, and perhaps by editing the material so as to separate the interview parts and the masturbation scenes from each other.

The current online prices for this line of DVD's are typically over US$20. This is perhaps a little pricey, considering the video quality and minimal extras.

DVD features recap

This is a DVD-9 (dual-layered DVD). The main feature lasts about135 minutes. The extras are limited to 8 very short trailers, and a photo gallery with 16 so-so images. The problems with audio/video, such as subdued colors, overall darkness of picture and lack of sharpness, probably stem from original material. I didn't notice any transfer-related problems.
