sure thing about movie franchises is that eventually they all go downhill,
trading on the name recognition to make a buck. The same thing goes for
Kirdy Stevens' most well-known series. He, along with writing partner
Helene Terrie, is best known as the founder of the long running Taboo
series. The third installment marks the beginning of decline of the
long-running feature franchise. Despite bringing back both Kay Parker and
Honey Wilder, the mothers from the first two classics, Taboo 3 comes off
as well as Jurassic Park III.Nearly five years after the first two Taboos shocked audiences and became cult hits, how do you use the same characters in a new film? Why, bring back a few familiar faces, recycle some of the old music, use "flashback" clips, and invent new family members to seduce! Kay Parker returns as Barbara, and while Paul, her son from #1 (played by Mike Ranger), is long gone, a new son, Jimmy (Jerry Butler), is written into the story--supposedly moving back from "New York." Honey Wilder as Joyce, divorced and sans kids Kevin James and Dorothy LeMay, gets it on with a younger Blake Palmer as her previously unseen son Brian. Yeah, right... Taboo and Taboo 2 were successful not so much for the incest theme, but rather the solid sex, relatively unknown performers, and good emotional buildup. Taboo 3 has a lot of sex in it, but only a few minutes of it even comes close to the "torrid" levels of the first two films. The performers are quite well-known, especially in retrospect: Kay Parker, Honey Wilder, Colleen Brennan, Kristara Barrington (and her famous puffies), Jerry Butler, Blake Palmer, and a much thinner Ron Jeremy (who plays a complete different character than he did in Taboo 2). So instead of enjoying the movie, you're thinking "hey, that's Ron Jeremy! Boy, he's not as repulsive as he is now!" And the emotional buildup is all screwed up: the previous movies relied heavily on a believable "oh, we shouldn't be doing this" factor, but that's all out the window in Taboo 3. Joyce is having sex with her son, and casually introduces Barbara into a three-way with her family. Both women bang each other's sons. Barbara ends up sleeping with her own son. You get the idea: it's like the forbidden taboo is now No Big Deal. It comes off like, well, like a really bad porno movie. Of course, if you're into the Mother-I'd-Like-to-Fuck thing, then you'll probably be in heaven. Both Kay and Honey look like they could be mothers of teenagers with the wrinkles, sagging, and overdone makeup to back it up. If, on the other hand, you're only concerned about barely legal young things, you'd probably want to pass this one up. Even though there's a scene with Lisa Lake and Blake Palmer, and a big orgy scene with the younger crowd (complete with leg warmers!) this is clearly the Kay and Honey show. I could go into the plot, but it's really not worth the effort. It revolves around the two sons trying to get a record deal for some 80's British band that sounds like a cross between Janet Jackson and Hall & Oates. But we know the real plot is seeing how many unnatural couplings can occur in an hour and a half. Anyway, speaking of music, some of the custom songs from the first two movies make their triumphant return. I especially like the clever lyrics, such as "Oooooohhhhh, baby-- I feel myself...I feel myself--- Cumming and cumming with youuuuuuuuuu." And people wonder why they don't make porn like they used to! As you can tell, I don't really care for this movie. Not only does it give you the feeling that Stevens & Terrie were trying to get a few more miles out of the first two films, but the sexual heat doesn't even come close to the first two Taboos. Get those two first, and then rent this one afterward. Finally, for those of you who need another reason not to watch this movie, the adult industry's pariah, Marc Wallice, plays the Pizza Boy in one of the later scenes. Although he appeared in a lot of 80's and 90's videos (close to 1500, in fact), I know some people intentionally avoid movies that he's in. Fair warning, since he's not credited in most of the cast lists I've seen.
