Synopsis:
Jamie Gillis and Jack Baker are talking about how they should become pimps and how great it would be if they could program the prostitutes to fuck to New Wave music. They drift off into slumber land and their discussion becomes the focal point of their dream.

Audio/Video:
New Wave Hookers is presented with an English 2.0 Stereo track, which sounds like it is the original audio track for the film. The limitations of the source elements are very obvious here and the sound is very constrained and sounds rather flat. However, this is the best that they probably could do with the source elements without re-mixing the entire track. The dialog is clear throughout the entire film. VCA hasn't included any foreign language tracks or subtitle options for this release.

New Wave Hookers is presented in the full screen aspect ratio of 1.33:1, which appears to be the original aspect ratio for the film. I believe that New Wave Hookers was shot on film, so it could have had a widescreen scope but this presentation looks good. There are minimal artifacts in the print, none of which are overly distracting nor will ruin your viewing experience. The color levels are appropriately set and there are no glitches or blemishes present on the print. For the age of the film, it looks good here, probably the best it ever will.

Cut Warning:
This cut should be obvious to everyone, but for the sake of completeness I will include it anyway. The film originally featured Traci Lords, as a devil, in a scene with Rick Cassidy, as an angel, (whose name still appears in the credits although he has been removed from the film as well) as the fifth scene back when she was underage. Obviously this scene had to be cut from the film for this release bringing the original run time of the film of 83 minutes down to the 75 minutes it now stands at. Those who never knew that the scene was originally in the film will never notice the edit. Normally I am opposed to editing the classic films, but this reason is more than acceptable since it is better to be able to obtain this movie slightly shorter than not to be able to obtain it at all.

Special Features:
As far as extras go, this disc is rather bare, which is too bad as I would love to see some special features for these classic films but I'm sure that extras are hard to come by for films this old. There is a photo gallery, which contains eight stills on a track. There is also a cast list included on the disc.

Navigation:
There are five chapters available from the main menu for New Wave Hookers. Given the layout of the film, more chapters would be preferable, but there is a chapter stop for each sex scene so there is easy access to them. There is a time code encoded on the disc for the feature film.

General Review:
New Wave Hookers is a non-PC adult film that could have only come from the eighties. If taken too seriously, this film is doomed to offend any viewer with it's rampant racial stereotypes and poor depiction of females. However, if viewed lightly as the comedy that it is intended to be, New Wave Hookers offers the viewer an excellent viewing experience that goes beyond just self gratification.

The story for the film is unlike any that you will see today. The world created by the film is weird and surrealistic, it completely fits the film though as the film is a dream and the layout and design of the film allows for full belief of that. This is one of those rare examples where the plot allows for the sex scenes and the sex scenes fit in with the film.

The cast in the film is excellent, and this is one of the few examples in the adult world where the acting outshines the sex. Jamie Gillis and the late Jack Baker, known as John Anthony Bailey in the mainstream world, steal the film as the pimps of the new wave hookers. After seeing the two of them in this film it's rather amazing that their mainstream careers didn't go further than they did. Steve Powers has dual roles in the film, as the dog of Gillis and Baker and as a nerd with Tom Byron, in an excellent scene. The prostitutes are without much personality here, but that fits in with their roles, so they all fit the roles perfectly.

Some viewers may not be impressed by the sex scenes presented in the film. There are points where the story gets in the way of the sex and the scenes aren't as hardcore for the most part as many of today. I will note however that this film contains the hottest DP scene that I have ever seen with Ginger Lynn, Tom Byron and Steve Powers. If more DP scenes were done this well, I might actually become a fan of them. The cast stays in character for the sex scenes, which keeps the fantasy going, which is rare in adult films. The sex scenes are also rather short in comparison to the average scene in the films of today. The sexual themes in the film are oral, vaginal and anal sex with female masturbation, lesbianism, hand job, male masturbation, anal fingering, DP, anilingus, pussy fingering, and an orgy scene. For viewers that care about condom use, there were no condoms used in the film.

The sets in the film are simplistic and some are very unrealistic, but this all fits in with the feel of the film and in some cases, a realistic set would have ruined the scene. I hate to say it, but I even enjoyed some of the eighties music in the soundtrack. Especially the songs, I didn't enjoy the synthesized music as much.

The Scenes:
In the first scene, Jamie Gillis, Steve Powers, and Desiree Lane pair up. The scene starts out with some female masturbation before going into the vaginal sex. Then there is a vaginal sex, blow job and hand job combo. The scene continues with a pussy eating, blow job and hand job combo to finish the scene. The second scene features Peter North with Brooke Fields and Kimberly Carson. The scene starts out with some female pussy eating before going into the blow job. Then there is a pussy eating and blow job combo before some vaginal sex to finish the scene.

The third scene features Steve Powers and Tom Byron with Ginger Lynn. The scene starts out with a blow job before a vaginal sex and anal fingering combo before going into some DP. The scene ends with some anal sex. The fourth scene features Jack Baker and Steve Powers with Kristara Barrington and starts out with some female masturbation before the pussy eating. Then there is the blow job before the vaginal sex to conclude the scene. The fifth and final scene is an orgy scene with Kristara Barrington, Jamie Gillis, Jack Baker, Steve Powers, Desiree Lane, Steve Drake, Gina Carrera and Greg Rome. The scene has pussy eating, blow jobs, vaginal and anal sex, pussy fingering and male masturbation.

Parting Thoughts:
New Wave Hookers is not a film for everyone and will probably not be enjoyed by the average raincoater crowd. For viewers that like an adult film where the plot is important for the film and the sex fits into the film, this might be the film for you. Bear in mind though when selecting this film that the film is weird, purposely so, and if that is not your thing, you'll want to pass on this film.
