The Movie

Long Jeanne Silver is one of the oddest adult films to have come out of the 70s. Porn auteur Alex de Renzy made this pseudo-documentary style vignette film, which would be called a showcase movie today, highlighting lesser known adult film actress Jeanne Silver. There isn't any plot to the film at all, no over arcing story, no real connectivity to the scenes. Before each scene there was a short scripted or improvised segment, which leads into the next sex scene.

What makes Jeanne Silver unique was that she had part of one of her feet and legs amputated as a child and as a result, one of her legs now resembles a gigantic penis. As to whether one will find this a good aspect to the film or will find this completely turns themselves off is dependent on the viewers themselves. Alex de Renzy definitely makes the most out of Silver's unique physique working “stump humping,” where Silver inserts her stump into a woman's vagina as part of the sex act to all but one of the five scenes presented within the film. In the one odd scene out, Silver has sex with an unknown gay male's ass.

Strangely for de Renzy, outside of the novelty of Jeanne Silver, the sex scenes don't have much going for them at all. In fact if you stripped the stump humping portions from the film, Long Jeanne Silver would just be an average all sex film. Alex de Renzy has done much better than this and unless stump humping turns you on, this is probably a film you will want to skip.

The Edition

Vinegar Syndrome has done a very good job with this release. Long Jeanne Silver is presented in the academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The transfer is in good shape coming from a film print. There is grain, print damage, and artifacts present within the print. The colors look great. There are a few spots of heavy damage but overall, the film looks rather amazing.

Long Jeanne Silver is presented with an English Dolby Digital 1.0 monaural track, which sounds relatively good. There is some noticeable hiss in some places of the film and some pops here and there. The dialog is clear and can be heard throughout the film. I doubt anyone will be upset by the audio presentation here.

Vinegar Syndrome has included only one extra on the release. There is a feature length commentary with Jeanne Silver and Joe Rubin. The commentary is a mixed bag. There are technical issues with it, it sounds like it was done over the phone and Silver is often off in the film from the presentation on the screen. There are portions that are very good and others where Silver can't remember and Rubin has to prompt her.

Final Thoughts

Long Jeanne Silver is an odd film which will definitely not appeal to all viewers. It is essentially a showcase for amputee Jeanne Silver masking itself as a documentary. If you aren't into Silver or sex involving her stumped leg that resembles a giant penis, then this film won't appeal at all to you. Vinegar Syndrome has done a good job with the release with a nice looking transfer and a commentary track from Silver.
