Initial Expectations: I haven’t seen any of the Mitchell Brothers’ work, but I’m going in with pretty high expectations with how much of pioneers they were for adult film.

The Technical Stuff

Audio /Video Quality: The technical aspects are pretty good when one considers that the movie was shot on film over twenty years ago. The audio is pretty clear and well balanced, while the video varies a little. Some areas look every bit as good or better than the mainstream seventies movies you see on TV while others are quite fuzzy.

Music: The music is well balanced with the rest of the audio, and removes any doubt of the movie being made at any other time than the seventies.

Menus: The menus are pretty basic, The main menu gives a little animation with the choices while the chapter menu lets you choose a scene based on a small clip of each scene and a scene number.

The Feature

When Eve was twelve years old, she had her first sexual experience at the hands of an old family friend. Years later she meets a radio DJ and falls in love. Although things are great at first, she gets in a horribly disfiguring car accident after a fight and ends up having her face completely redone. Although her husband is still madly in love with her, he wants to get a little more adventurous sexually and swing but is upset when she can’t get past her sexual hangups. Over time she works at it, sometimes with his support and more often with him pressuring her.

Scene 1 - Nancy Welch and Dale Meador

When Dale, a friend of Eve’s Dad, comes by he teachers her (Nancy pretending to be far younger than she looks) a few things about kissing that she’s heard about. He starts out showing her how they kiss in France on her doll, and after letting her try on her doll tries it with her. Next he tells her how they kiss in Italy. After demonstrating pussy licking on her doll, he has her sit on the table so he can lick her slit. Nancyy’s confused by his demonstration on how in Hong Kong people would kiss his cock, but quickly catches on when he has her kiss and suck his cock. Before Dale can cum, however, Eve’s mom returns and chases him off while beating him with her purse.

This is a pretty hot opening scene. Nancy is supposed to be playing a girl who’s not quite thirteen, and although she doesn’t come close to looking the part, she does do a very good job pretending to be hesitant while throwing in a few other younger mannerisms. Although there’s no fucking or no pop here, it’s still a hot scene that started the movie off right for me.

Scene 2 - Mimi Morgan and Matthew Arnon

Mimi starts Matthew off with a little knob gobbling after dinner. Soon after she’s on her back with him fucking her missionary style. It doesn’t take long before he pops, and he doesn’t waste any time pulling out.

This is a pretty average porn scene for the golden age of porn. The blowjob is captured pretty well, but you never get to see any penetration during the fucking. There’s a bit of passion there, but the scene seems over almost before it began.

Scene 3 - Mimi Morgan and Matthew Arnon

After meeting through a friend and a scheduling mixup, Mimi hits it off with DJ Matthew. He gives her a tour of the studio before getting a horizontal tour of his couch. They don’t waste any time orally, nor with pulling out.

This is an okay scene. Mimi and Matthew have very nice chemistry together. When this scene is combined with many clips after the scene of them getting busy as well as doing things outside that require clothes, it strengthens the scene much, much more.

Scene 4 - Mimi Morgan, Johnnie Keyes, and Matthew Arnon

After a little lover’s spat, Mimi and Matthew patch things up in bed. She sucks his cock while Matthew worries about her taking on Johnnie and sees her sucking Johnnie’s black cock instead of his. He keeps seeing it happen as he fucks her missionary style, and fucks her harder and harder because of it. Finally he stops without popping and without seeming like he popped.

For the age of the movie, this is a pretty well done scene. It isn’t overly hot, but it adds to the overall movie and story quite well while also maintaining a sexual feeling.

Scene 5 - Marilyn Chambers and Matthew Arnon

Marilyn and Matthew get it on one afternoon next. Marilyn eagerly makes her way down to mouth Matthew’s meat, and even looks to take it into her throat a little. She lies back and guides him into her twat next before getting into it pretty well. Matthew pushes the discussion of a group fuck, with Marilyn being standoffish at first and finally giving in before the scene ends without a pop.

This is an okay scene. It starts out very well and has some great chemistry. As the scene goes on, however, Matthew seems so pushy that I think I wanted Marilyn to pop him one in the face more than I wanted to see him pop in her face. This scene leaves me with mixed feelings.

Scene 6 - Three orgies

When Marilyn finally goes to a swinger’s party, she’s so nervous that she hides in the bathroom while everybody else gets it on. There’s plenty of fucking and sucking all around before the fucking starts, but nobody seems wild about switching around all the time. Marilyn leaves before anybody pops, and the scene ends with her leaving. Later, Marilyn tries it again and gets fucked missionary style, and gets in on the action a little again at a dress up swinger’s party.

This are pretty typical golden age group scenes. The scenes are very short, but the first two are hurt more by not having any pop shots than by their length. Marilyn nicely plays both emotional sides very well, and you see some nice changes in her throughout the scenes.

Scene 7 - Marilyn Chambers and Johnnie Keyes, Kandi Jones and Matthew Arnon, and a big orgy around them

When Marilyn and Matthew meet up with Johnnie and Kandi at a swinger’s party, they decide to swap partners. Marilyn seems to get into Johnnie more and more, which makes Matthew seem more than a little jealous. Around them, there’s actually cum flowing and the guys don’t restrict themselves just to the ladies.

This is a nicely done final orgy for the plot. You can see things happening between Matthew and Marilyn, and the ending worked quite well for me. There’s a reality to it that I really liked, and it seemed natural for Marilyn’s character as well. Sexually, however, it left me a little cold. No, it wasn’t the flash or two of a gay blowjob, it was that everything seemed like a flash. Nothing had time to build anywhere. I know this is true with many orgy scenes, but here it seemed much worse than normal. This scene worked for me for the story and didn’t work for me for the sex.

Resurrection of Eve leaves me with some very mixed feelings. Sexually, it didn’t work for me that well. There’s great chemistry between Matthew and whichever lady is playing Eve through almost all of the movie, and I like that it mixed things up a bit with the orgies. Unfortunately, the sex seemed so limited to the missionary position that I think I started to zone out of the sex before the movie was even half done. Sex that’s basically limited to the missionary position with no pop just doesn’t do a lot for me. The story, however, worked pretty good. Although the sex didn’t work too well for me, it was nicely explained by the story with how sexually repressed Eve was due to what happened to her. It was also helped out by some pretty good acting, but at times it felt forced along. In the end, Resurrection of Eve was a bit of a dud for me. It did have some good potential, and although I pretty much hate remakes, there’s a bit of me that would love to see what somebody like Stormy Daniels could do with it today.

The Extra Stuff

The photo gallery lasts two minutes and gives you about five seconds per okay looking but very small screen capture.

The Bottom Line:

Currently, many of the Mitchell Brothers DVD releases can be found online for between about $16 and $28 with only a few stores offering them for under $20. Rent this one before buying it. There’s a nice idea to the movie that I can see working for some, but I think that number is much less than the ones it will leave a little bored. The technical aspects are surprisingly good, but there’s very little effort put into the extras. This is an okay DVD.

Note to Mitchell Brothers: A little work on the extras could go a long way. You wouldn’t have to go all the way to a full blown commentary, as just something like an interview with Marilyn Chambers would really help this one.
