The First Word: Private has included an unprecedented number of trailers on DVD Sampler 3, but the bonus scenes and extras are trimmed to make room. 

What's It About?: This is a promotional DVD containing a boatload of trailers and 3 (slightly less than) full scenes from Private movies.  It's evolved from a sampler into a full-fledged catalog of the company's releases.

Scene #1 from No Sun, No Fun (9.5 minutes):  Private is well-known for having sex in exotic outdoor locations, and one of Private's favorite locales is the snow-covered peaks of Europe.  In this case, a pretty blonde is getting fucked from behind while on the side of a mountain as this extra scene starts.  They are both clad in ski outfits with only their privates exposed, and there's plenty of snow around on the sunny slope (at least a couple of inches).  From doggy to reverse cowgirl to spoon and then cowgirl, we get to see lots of wide shots of the two fucking in the wilderness before he shoots like a snow blower.

Scene #2 from The Academy (13 minutes):  The second scene is a small orgy outdoors on a villa patio (although there's a lot of background traffic noise, so the location can't be that exotic).  Mysteriously, there are two leather couches on the patio with couples fucking on both of them.  All of the women -- I can recognize only one of the girls, Monika Sweetheart --  are wearing PVC clothing of some sort as they pair off in two boy-girl and one girl-girl pairs.  After some closeups of the sex, the sperm starts flying early as one guy cums all over the boots of one of the ladies before another one laps at the cum-covered red PVC boots.  From there it's musical partners, followed by some double penetration and then lip-licking oral cumshots.

Scene #3 from Amanda's Diary 4 (13.5 minutes):  Like the other scenes, this scene starts with sex almost immediately as stars Monique Covet and Sophie Evans take on two guys below deck on a yacht.  It's a pretty standard two-couple scene, something that Private does so often that it seems routine.  I wasn't really impressed with the sex, and the lighting is pretty dark.  It's also very formula driven:  most of the action is synchronized, i.e. both girls get fucked in the same position at the same time or get DP'ed one after another, and then they take facials in the same way.  Variety is the spice of life, and if I have one criticism of Private it is that their videos tend to be bland sometimes.

What I liked: It's more or less free: I received this for free, paying only shipping and handling.  Other retailers bundled this disc as a promotional item (free with purchase, prize drawing, etc.).  Since at the time I'm writing this review Private DVD Sampler 4 is already out, it's unlikely that you'll be able to find Sampler 3 without paying for it.  Normally I would say to just pick up the latest promo disc if you can, but I glanced at DVD Sampler 4 and unfortunately it contains no bonus scenes, only trailers.  So if you want a decent sampler and DVD catalog, this is the Samplers 2 or 3 are the ones you should try to get.

What I didn't like: What, no fast forward?!?: While scan search works just fine for the bonus scenes, unfortunately the ability to fast forward and reverse within the trailers has been disabled.  You can skip from one trailer to another by pressing the next chapter button, but if you missed something or are bored, you are forced to watch the whole thing.  It's not that bad since most of the trailers are rather short, but it's an irritation that should have been avoided.

More trailers means less of everything else: This disc has a whole bunch of trailers to make room for, so the three bonus scenes that are normally included on these sampler discs are getting shorter and shorter.  Rather than including entire scenes, Private has been cutting from the beginning of the scene so it starts right when the hardcore action does.  Gone as well are the foreign language subtitles and audio tracks.  I suppose this is because they cut all of the dialogue out of the bonus scenes so there's really no need.  Still, it looks like they threw everything overboard to lighten the ship for the large cargo of trailers.

DVD Extras: Nada, zippo, none.  You've got three scenes plus a lot of trailers.  That's it.

A/V Quality: In general, very good for both video and audio quality.  The older trailers definitely show their age, but by and large it's excellent.  The audio tends to be mixed well, with a clearly defined stereo mix.  Any disappointment with the audio stems from Private's audio dubbing, which makes both the performer's moans and the surrounding environmental audio sound artificial and synchronized like a Bruce Lee film.

The Last Word:  Having seen DVD Sampler 4, it looks like DVD Sampler 3 is the last of the samplers to include bonus scenes.  Therefore, if you're looking for a large catalog of trailers as well as a few sex scenes, this is probably the disc to get as long as you don't have to pay more than, say, $5 for it.  I've heard good things about DVD Sampler 2, so maybe that's the best route since DVD Sampler 1 has too few trailers, #3 has just average bonus scenes, and the fourth one has no bonus scenes at all.  And of course, if you are new to Private, I would suggest that you spend a few more bucks and go with the Private: Millennium compilation.
