The Oriental Sex Academy is a shot on video cheapie that invokes the name of Hugh Wilson's Police Academy, released the year prior, but nothing else from the series. The Original Sex Academy serves as a sad reminder of how fast adult movies sunk once they switched from shot on film to shot on video productions. All the fun and charm of Police Academy is missing; in fact, most semblances of Police Academy are missing. One would be convinced The Original Sex Academy was a take-off of some other film if it wasn't for the distinct lettering in the onscreen title.

The plot for The Original Sex Academy, what little there is, has instructor Nadia (Tamara Longley) teaching a course at the Spy Academy in sex. For the final exam, the class gets broken into two groups. The males class members (Jon Martin, Joey Silvera, and Mike Horner) are given a secret password. The female class members (Jessica Wylde, Tiffany Duponte, and Carol Titian) have to get the password out of the men. If the females succeed, they pass the course, and any male who gives up the password fails the course.

The Original Sex Academy is, sadly, your typical shot on video quickie where the plot is of no real consequence, and the only reason for the film to exist are the almost wall to wall sex scenes. The different story portions, if you can call them story portions, are thrown at you with no real rhyme or reason and of no actual consequence to the actual movie. In other words, there is no need to keep track of what is happening in the story because the movie will never revisit it.

The sex scenes in the movie are rather average. The performers always look as if they are having fun; however, there isn't anything incredibly great or incredibly poor about them. None of the cast members puts in what would be called a good acting performance, not that there was much material for them to work within that aspect.

There isn't any reason to see The Original Sex Academy. Sure, if you are a massive fan of one of the stars you may want to see it for that reason alone. However, if you are looking for plotted adult entertainment, there are far better adult movies out there — even from the shot on video era. The Original Sex Academy is an easy pass.

Gourmet Video has done a subpar job with their DVD release of The Original Sex Academy; however, this release does look better than most of Gourmet Video's releases. The Original Sex Academy was shot on videotape, and it doesn't look like the master videotape was used for this release. The Original Sex Academy is presented in the Academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1 in 480i. The image quality is soft with poor definition. There are glitches in the video, and the colors are acceptable.

The audio for The Original Sex Academy is an English Dolby Digital 2.0 monaural track. There is a hiss present throughout the entire movie. The dialog in the movie is clear and easy to understand at all times.

Gourmet Video hasn't included any extras for the movie on this release.

The Original Sex Academy is a prime example of how adult movies went wrong when they switched from shot on film productions to shot on video productions. The Original Sex Academy capitalizes on the name of Police Academy, but that is as far as any connection between the two movies. The Original Sex Academy is a series of sex scenes with some “plotted” portions between them to make the movie look like a feature movie. The sex scenes are average. There isn't any real reason to see this movie. Gourmet Video has done a better than their average job but still not average job with their DVD release with acceptable video and audio quality.
